AN EVENT TO REMEMBER

“Pianist Dave Tucker ... laid down the gospel of stride as he

waded into James P. Johnson's world with the 1914 Mule

Walk...(and later) weighed back in with Willie “The Lion”

Smith's Echoes of Spring, a solid reading with light trills and

tastefully delicate closing chords. Johnson¹s Keep Off The Grass

danced in the upper hand on and off, like Gene Kelly stepping

on and off the sidewalk in Singing In The Rain.” -Concert

review by Murray Bishoff, Managing Editor, Monett

Times 2006

"Dave is a most welcomed performer annually at our festivals

with his diverse renditions of ragtime, stride, and early jazz. His

ever-changing repertoire has our fans waiting for more."

-Wayne Pauli, Director, The Grand International Ragtime-

Jasstime Foundation, Alexandria Bay, NY

"Dave Tucker plays great piano, and on top of it all, "gets

it." His interpretations of the music of this era will wow

you, soothe you, and most of all, make you smile. His

quiet charm in performance makes sure the music is at

the forefront, but also makes sure that you won't miss

his next performance." -Dr. Steve Standiford, ragtime

promoter, Philadelphia PA“Dave Tucker is unwilling to let his repertoire get stale;

he's always stretching out, pushing himself, and

learning something new.” -Sue Keller (Pianist &

Entertainer), Artistic Director, International Scott Joplin

Festival, Sedalia Missourigreat American songbook have also become an important part of Dave’s constantly expanding repertoire.

In 2001 Dave issued his first recording “Tickled Ragtime & Novelties” featuring the music of Scott Joplin, Joseph Lamb, Zez Confrey and others. “Meadow Lark”, a second CD issued in April 2005, includes more ragtime and expands into the Harlem stride of Fats Waller, James P Johnson and Willie “The Lion” Smith, along with other examples of early jazz piano music.

Now a regular performer at music festivals nationwide, Dave has performed at the International Scott Joplin Ragtime Festival, the Blind Boone Ragtime Festival, the West Coast Ragtime Festival, the Lake Superior Ragtime Festival, the Eau Claire Ragtime Festival, the Alexandria Bay Ragtime/Jasstime Festival, and the Northern Virginia Ragtime Society, among numerous others. Dave has also conducted several ragtime presentations for school children.

Dave now performs regularly in the Washington D.C. region. In 2005, Dave joined the New HOTS Dance Orchestra as their pianist. HOTS specializes in presenting the music of the 1920s and 1930s while occasionally expanding to include the classic swing era (1940s).

In addition, Dave is involved with several small combo groups. Reverie, a five-person group, specializes in p r e s e n t i n g e a r l y v o c a l j a z z s t a n d a r d s (www.reveriejazz.com). "Dave Tucker ...adds a unique blend of feeling and expression to

his music. Audiences appreciate his fresh, melodic and tasteful

-Jim Radloff, Music Director, Eau Claire Ragtime Festival“Dave Tucker's performance was a syncopated stroll through

early American music; ragtime, stride, and jazz. What a

wonderful performance!” -Dr. Bill Brown, Brooklyn NY

“I’ve known Dave Tucker for several years, and I can tell that

his piano playing has evolved year after year... he's a hard

worker. His music talks more and more as well. Being invited

these past years at the Royal Theatre in Versailles, MO for the

Mimi & Friends shows, I had the pleasure and the joy to

discover that he is a wonderful fellow to work with; great ideas,

very open minded, and enjoys performing with other

musicians ... he's a great friend too. Love you Dave.” -Mimi

Blais (pianist, actress & entertainer, Montreal, Qc. Canada)

“For us, the high point of any Ragtime festival is the

opportunity to enjoy the playing of pianist, Dave

Tucker...We are impressed by his renditions of Echo of

Spring and Creeks of Missouri, but our favorite is his

outstanding interpretation of his signature piece, Meadow

Lark...” ! -Mary Grace & Jerry Lanese, Kansas City,
