PRINCIPAL’S UPDATE Hello to all,

School Development Day Welcome to our new families who have joined our wonderful school. I’m sure you will find Term 3 to be a busy and a learning-packed 10 weeks. During the School Development Day our teachers participated in a day of professional learning. This included an introduction to the 7 Steps for Writing pedagogy and coding lessons using the Quality Teaching documents. Thank you to Ms Carol Williams, Mr Matthew Walter, Ms Carly Dufficy and Mrs Lara Lenton who led staff through these sessions. All teachers within the Valley Schools Local Management Group then met from 3.00pm-6.00pm and listened to a lecture from the education key note speaker Steve Francis on the changing face of education. Teachers participated in a variety of workshops run by teachers and department staff. Congratulations to Mrs Liz Rogers who was pivotal in the planning of the combined schools event and presented her knowledge on creating films with the use of filmpond to teachers from participating schools.

Teacher Accreditation Congratulations to Ms Carly Dufficy who was awarded her teacher accreditation this week. This process must be completed by all beginning teachers within their first five years of teaching and involves participating in extensive professional learning and compiling a document that annotates how that teacher is addressing the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers.

Stage 3 Excursion As our Stage 3 students and teachers prepare for their 3 day excursion next week I would like to extend my sincere thanks to Mrs Sharon Shearman for her exceptional organisation and to Mrs Sharon Head, Ms Carly Dufficy, Mrs Michelle Francis, Mrs Rose Wastell and Mrs Paula Mehrtens who are attending with students. It is a big ask to take a group of students away on a 2 night excursion - our Wyoming staff happily undertake this each year. We are very grateful for the opportunities that you provide to our students.

Conversations with your children Quite often as parents we remember to talk to our children about “stranger danger” and road safety however when was the last time you spoke to your child about what to do if they come across a syringe or bag of unknown substance when in the community?

Attention on Attendance Congratulations to the 37 students who remain with a perfect attendance record for 2018. Thank you also to the 34 students who have shown exceptional attendance (less than 2 days absent). At the conclusion of Term 2 our student award for perfect attendance was a $2 canteen voucher – keep up the great work! Rebecca Wild PRINCIPAL

2018 BOOKWEEK, BOOKFAIR & LIBRARY NEWS

2018 BOOKWEEK, BOOKFAIR & LIBRARY NEWS Welcome back to another busy and exciting term in the school library. Miss Nagle and I are continuing to upgrade the computers. This has allowed classes to have lessons in the library wherever possible. The computers are amazingly popular every morning before school and at lunch times as well. New books continue to be purchased and borrowed by students, whilst other books are used in class literacy lessons. We are extremely lucky that the school prioritises the resourcing of our wonderful library. I would like to thank the wonderful volunteers who continue to find time to cover books and help out wherever possible, especially during Books in Homes. Without volunteers our school library would not be able to function. Book Week Costume Day – Thursday 23 August In Term 3 it is Book Week again!! The theme this year is, ‘Find Your Treasure’. As usual students will be allowed to dress according to the theme. Their ‘treasure’ may be a literary character such as Harry Potter, Mary Poppins, Peter Pan, Cinderella, Cat in the Hat or a Super Hero. Or they may decide to dress as a pirate, or even a parrot. Other appropriate characters will be discussed in class and during library lessons. The following costume guidelines must be adhered to:-

• ensure your child is dressed according to themes suitable for a primary school book

• all students must have covered shoes, but no ‘midriff’ tops and no singlets in their uniforms

• students MUST NOT bring swords, guns or any other weapons as part of a pirate outfit or any other outfit

The book week assembly and costume parade will commence in the hall at 2pm. Book Fair – Monday 20 August – Thursday 23 August During Book Week I will also be running the Scholastic Book Fair. As usual there will be a large selection of books and some other ‘knick knacks’ to purchase. I look forward to your continued support of the book fair as I extend our goal to $3000 this year!! Last year we made over $2000.00 in sales which in turn allowed me to purchase 25 sets of multiple readers for Literacy lessons in Stage 1. Previously I have been able to purchase Stage 2 and Stage 3 excellent and modern dictionaries as a result of the money raised by the Wyoming Public School community during the book fair. TODD WOODBRIDGE CUP Last term 30 Stage 2 students attended the Todd Woodbridge Cup Zone carnival at Gosford Tennis Courts. Wyoming entered 5 teams and enjoyed a terrific day of tennis. Students played tennis matched in the modified ‘Red Ball’ format playing doubles and mixed doubles. Students played against teams from Central Mangrove and Terrigal Public School. All Wyoming students displayed excellent sportsmanship and a special mention goes to Deondre H, Joseph B, Lincoln S, Tyson L-W, Hayden K, Ava F, Annaleise F and Makalesi K who successfully made the Regional Carnival. These students will attend the Sydney North Todd Woodbridge Cup play-off at Gosford in August. Congratulations boys and girls and good luck for your next match. Jacqueline Nagle TENNIS COORDINATOR
