O give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; for his steadfast love endures forever. (1 Chronicles 16: 34, NRSV)

Thanksgiving Greetings!!

On behalf of church office and staff of Faith Lutheran Church, I want to

take this opportunity to wish you and your loved ones a wonderful Thanks-

giving Season. It is true that much time could be spent on the many problems

in our lives and in the world, but I want to remind you that as children of

God, there are many things for which we are thankful.

John Henry Jowett, a British preacher of an earlier generation, said

this about gratitude: “Gratitude is a vaccine, an antitoxin, and an antiseptic.”

What did he mean? He meant that gratitude, like a vaccine, can prevent a

spirit of disgruntlement and discouragement. Gratefulness acts as an antitoxin

against the poisons of cynicism, criticalness, and grumbling. And Gracious-

ness can soothe and heal even the most troubled spirit, like an antiseptic

I wanted to share about the importance of having a thankful spirit:

Having a grateful heart keeps us humble, brings us peace, and makes us

joyful. It builds our faith and keeps us connected to God.

As Paul writes: “I know how to live on almost nothing or with every-

thing. I have learned the secret living in every situation, whether it is with a

full stomach or empty, with plenty or little. For I can do everything through

Christ, who gives me strength.” (Philippians 4:12-13)

God bless us with meaningful lives, and may we be grateful to one another

and to God!

Yours in Christ,

Pastor Rita.

Our homebound and nursing home members are often so isolated that your phone call, visit, even a card can mean the difference between

lonely existence and continued life in our faith community. What can you do? Please reach out to those who have been such a vital part of our congregation and give back.

Pastor Rita will be out of the office November 8th through the 11th If you have pastoral needs, you may contact Pastor Raappana at 906-322-3487

Sean will be out of the office the third and fourth weeks of November So the weekly mailings/emails received for Sunday November 21st and 28th may not include all of the announcements or other information as those documents will need to be created before he leaves the office for those weeks. If you have any questions, Pastor Rita will still be in the office Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 11am-2pm. Also, if you are the head of a committee or another group with Faith and you need an announcement put in the bulletin for the end of November; please get that information to Sean no later than November 8th. The same goes for the December Pathfinder as he will not be able to work much on it when he returns the 29th, it will mostly be finished ahead of time. Thank you! Page 2

November 10th at the Big Bear Arena From 4PM-6PM, Feeding America and United Way of the EUP will be giving out food boxes

for families and individuals in need during this Holiday season. If you would like to volunteer to help, please arrive at the Big Bear Arena at 3PM. Last year Faith raised $500, and we are looking to break that record this year! Monetary donations will be accepted until November 7th. Checks can be made out to Faith Lutheran Church. The United Way’s cost per turkey is $10. Help us reach our goal of raising enough money to pay for the cost of a turkey for 60 families!

Sunday school volunteers needed

In preparation for a return to In-person Sunday school, we are looking to

gather a few volunteers who would be willing to teach one or two Sundays

a month. Sunday school will be held during worship service rather than

before worship services. Until the time that we have Sunday school

teachers, we will continue to send home packets for the kids which

include: children’s bulletins for every Sunday (usually 2 months at a time), a

letter from Pastor Rita, and crafts & activities pertaining to the lessons in

the bulletins. So if you are interested, please contact the church office or

Pastor Rita to volunteer to help us begin in-person Sunday school class

again. Thank you!

FROM THE SYNOD

Native American Sunday

Native American Sunday will take place on November 21 and a synod task force (Walking with our Indigenous Neighbors) has created a wonderful

worship resource to use. This resource is customizable and available on the homepage of our synod website under "Year of Discovery." We hope

that by utilizing this resource our congregations will have some sense of the deep spiritual traditions of our

indigenous neighbors who honor the Creator.

Unfinished Objects Retreat

This event will take place at Fortune Lake Lutheran Camp November 19-21 and aims to provide time to crafters of all types to work on any outstanding projects they may have.

Limited meals and programming will be provided in order to allow participants to focus on their crafting. Come and spend time with new and old friends, rejuvenate your spirit, and get some hobby work done! Registration is open now on the Fortune Lake website.
