DaTE is back from October 10 through 12 in Milan.

Returning to Milan from October 10 through 12 is DaTE, the event dedicated to avant-garde eyewear that encapsulates different worlds, personalities and ways of conceiving a particularly innovative design object.

The excellences of international eyewear will be presented for the first time to an audience of operators in The Mall, an ultra-new, amazing space in the heart of the futuristic district of Porta Nuova, the successful urban redevelopment project for the Garibaldi, Isola and Varesine districts.

New residential buildings - including the Bosco Verticale, winner of the international award for the most innovative skyscraper - various business centers, high fashion stores, restaurants, green areas, cycle paths and pedestrian zones make this corner of Milan the new gem in the city’s crown.

DaTE is the outcome of a decade’s constant work by enthusiastic people who live the eyewear sector, who never say no to a challenge, who follow their dreams. Apropos of this, Dante Caretti, one of the founders of the event, commented: “I am very enthusiastic because it is drawing the international and national eyewear world: over 100 brands have already confirmed their presence at the three-day event in Milan, which represents a time for business, cordiality and sharing for all eyewear enthusiasts. We chose a prestigious location to link the event even more with modernity and avant-garde. We are also organizing round tables where important architects and exponents of the world of leading-edge optics will discuss such subjects as Crèateurs eyewear and the design of stores dedicated to these products”.

With free entry from Piazza Alvar Aalto and Piazza Lina Bo Bardi, DaTE will be open from 10am to 7pm on Saturday, October 10 and Sunday, October 11, and from 10am to 5pm on Monday, October 12. Eyewear professionals who are interested will soon be able to register on www.dateyewear.com and print an entrance pass to avoid waiting in line.

Marcolin president of Fiamp

In December, Allison will inaugurate its new headquarters. Founded in 1959 at Volta Mantovana, the company moved to Padua in 1999. Allison will be returning to the place where it all began: the offices, style center, product laboratory and logistics center will be located in an 18,000 m2 property in one of the most evocative corners of the Garda hills. The aim of the restoration and industrial reclamation work was the redevelopment of the entire area. The company stated in a note: “We are proud that we have brought Allison’s historical headquarters back to life and, like every good family man, we are convinced that owning a house is a fundamental step toward guaranteeing peace of mind and prospects for the family. This is another demonstration of how much our strategy is decidedly oriented toward the long term...”.

A new president for FIAMP, the Italian Federation of Fashion and Personal Accessories and member of Confindustria: for the next 2015/2017 two-year period, Anfao president Cirillo Marcolin will take over from Cleto Sagripanti. The vice president will be Riccardo Braccialini, president of AIMPES, the Italian Leather Manufacturers’ Association. FIAMP is pursuing an essential route that will unite strong points and skills with the aim of enhancing all the Federation’s associations – eyewear, footwear, leather goods, jewelry and furs - that currently are strategic sectors for exporting Made in Italy products all over the world. The aggregate turnover of Italy’s fashion accessory segment is over 24 billion euros, with an export share of more than 80%. We represent approximately 21,000 manufacturers and 163,000 operators.

Italia Independent and adidas have signed an international four-year agreement: Italia Independent will develop, produce and distribute Originals eyewear products. The agreement was signed after the success of the eyewear collection inspired by Superstar, the iconic sneakers launched in March this year. The partnership is not simply a license contract but the unification of strengths of both brands with the aim of creating an innovative business model. This new bond is summed up by the new “lock-up logo”, a symbol that unites the iconic adidas Originals clover with the Italia Independent logo and underscores the deep and reciprocal commitment by both companies.Future collections of eyewear will be loyal to the DNA of the adidas Originals brand; the new eyewear models will be presented in January 2016.

The second time with Aisslinger

The architect and designer Werner Aisslinger has joined ic! berlin as design director alongside the founder Ralph Anderl. His debut collection “w. aisslinger for ic! berlin” will be available from October in selected opticians and boutiques. However, this is not his first venture into eyewear design. In 2009 Aisslinger designed collection 04 for “onono: the very few”, ic! berlin’s exclusive brand of buffalo horn eyewear. Aisslinger's works are exhibited at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, the Fonds National d’Art Contemporain in Paris and the Die Neue Sammlung museum in Munich. Aisslinger has developed furniture for Cappellini and Zanotta and has worked on architectural and product projects with powerhouses such as Mercedes-Benz, adidas and Hugo Boss.

For its third edition of The Loft the inventors once again furnished a Loft on one of Amsterdam’s canals with a selection of the best interior pieces and exclusive accessories. The venue was open to the public until September 6 and hosted a choice of events, presentations and parties over two weeks. The idea behind it is that everything becomes more beautiful in the right environment and products should be experienced in a real life setting rather than in a showroom. Sama Eyewear, which was founded by the designer Sheila Vance in Los Angeles, loved the idea and joined together with brands like Denham, Stella Maris and many others. At The Loft you could see the new deCODE Los Angeles collection.

The glasses manufacturer Lunor from the Black Forest has donated 9,000 frames to the relief organization “L.S.F. Lunettes sans Frontière”.In Africa you have to raise the incredible sum of six to eight monthly wages for a pair of glasses. That is why they are out of the question for most people living there. Already the journey to the doctor, often several 100 kilometres long, is far too expensive. The charitable organization “L.S.F. Lunettes sans Frontière”, makes it possible to help directly. This collection campaign, unlimited in time, provides all people willing to help with an opportunity to donate frames. It does not matter if they give five or five hundred frames – every single one makes a big contribution.“It shouldn’t be a luxury to be able to see sharply”, says Michael Fux, chairman and chief designer of Lunor AG. “That’s why we’ve decided to support the campaign 'Glasses withouth borders' with 9,000 frames.”

Called “Dismaland – Bemusement Park”, it was inaugurated on August 21 by English artist Banksy on a deserted beach in Weston-super-Mare, Somerset. A dark theme park where dreams will not come true, it is a kind of anti-Disneyland that will be open only until September 27. “The most dismal tourist attraction in the United Kingdom”, says one payoff for the park, where everything revolves around social and political issues like food, wars and the uneven distribution of the Planet’s riches. The trailer aired by Banksy puts the idea across: a fairytale castle intentionally unfinished and derelict, Cinderella’s carriage overturned and surrounded by paparazzi taking photos, and a duck pond with boats packed with migrants. Many of the works on show are by such major contemporary artists as Damien Hirst, Jenny Holzer and Jimmy Cauty.

Design, fashion & lifestyle

During the September edition of Milano Moda Donna, Israeli stylist Daizy Shely will be on show at the Armani/Teatro areas in Milan. Daizy has a strong, multifaceted personality: at times dark and mysterious, at times romantic and imaginative, characteristics that are reflected in the mood of her collections and the choice of fabrics and colors. The show is part of the Giorgio Armani initiative in support of young creatives. Giorgio Armani said: "My initiative in support of young designers has reached its tenth edition: a milestone that confirms the validity of this project. The future is in the hands of new generations and I am pleased that I can make an active contribution. I hope that my support is a good omen for Daizy Shely”.“It is one of the greatest occasions of my life and I am really grateful to Giorgio Armani for giving me this opportunity. His support for young creatives is essential for the future of the fashion world”, Daizy Shely said.

The non-fun park

Scoop London will take place at the Saatchi Gallery in Chelsea from the 20th to the 22nd September. It will host lots of international brands such as the Amsterdam-based brand Marcha Hüskes (which offers a complete selection of versatile womenswear staples based on classic silhouettes with little twists) and Charlotte Spaare from Denmark (her clothing collection is currently sold in over 200 stores, worldwide, and is represented in some of the most exclusive and trend-setting department stores in the world, such as Le Bon Marche in Paris and Beams in Tokyo). Spanish designers Sita Murt and French designers Antik Batik and Sud Express will showcase their new collections for the first time. As for the British brigade, labels include Libelula, Conditions Apply, Peregrine, who are known equally for their men’s and womenswear, and Varley, a luxury beach and active wear label for women.
