The Open Identity Stack includes OpenAM for access management, OpenDJ for directory services, OpenIDM for user administration and provisioning. We are often involved in complex Open Identity Stack deployments. Complex deployments involve multiple components (load-balancers, reverse proxies, encryption, redundancy) in multiple environments (dev, int, prd). This is somewhat more challenging than the initial development or integration deployment. To stay control of the complexity of such deployments, the challenges are: 1. efficiency: how can we deploy complex environments in a few hours or a few days including install, configuration and customization? 2. reliability & consistency: how can we make sure that all deployments are consistent across instances and across environments? 3. recovery: how can we roll-back to a previous version of the deployment? how can we recover a failed environment in a matter of minutes, independently of a the restore facility of our client? Paradigmo has developed a toolkit that answers the above challenges. A deployment is built in a Maven project. The project includes the installers from ForgeRock, the configuration and the customizations of the customers. The project also includes a set of scripts to execute all sorts of tasks: pre- checks, post-checks, environment- and instance-specific configurations and customizations. The ForgeRock installers and the customer’s configurations or customizations are stored in a Maven project. A Maven install is started on the target server and the installation, configuration and customization is made in a matter of minutes. It is reliable because it eliminates many sources of errors. It is consistent because all instances are deployed in the same exact way. And one instance can be recovered in a matter of minutes (roll-back or hardware failure)!
