IT Project Management 2013-14 Exercise Database Upgrade Setup Project 1. Start Microsoft Project (Version – 2013) 2. File – New – Blank Project 3. File – Options – Schedule – New task created – Auto Scheduled 4. File – Options – Schedule - Change “Work is entered in” from Hours to Days 5. Set up “Start Date” by doing Project – Project Information (set to 2 nd December 2013) - do Ok Enter Tasks by 6. Click on Square below Task Name 7. Enter all the tasks 8. Enter Duration by 9. Click on the Duration column and enter duration next to each Task or copy & paste from Word Document – Database Upgrade – question Enter Milestones by 10. Click on Task 5 and Insert – New Task 11. Enter Task Name – “Ready for Upgrade” 12. Enter a duration of 0 (this makes it a milestone) 13. Enter a Task 12 – named “Complete” 14. Enter duration = 0 (making it a milestone) 15. Format layout Date Format – 28/01/2009 16. Save Assign Resources 17. View Resource Sheet 18. Enter Resource Name = Analyst; Type = Work 19. Enter £525 /day in Std. Rate field in Resource row 20. Enter Resource Name = Oracle; Type = Material 21. Enter £5800 in Std. Rate field in Resource row 22. Enter Resource Name = Technical Support; Type = Work 23. Enter £350 /day in Std. Rate field in Resource row 24. Enter Resource Name = DBA; Type = Work 25. Enter £400 /day in Std. Rate field in Resource row 26. Go back to Gantt Chart (View Gantt Chart) 27. Click on Task 1 28. Resource – Assign Resources and assign Analyst to the Task 29. Continue for tasks 2 - assign Analyst to the Task 30. Continue for tasks 3 - assign DBA to the Task 31.
