HUMIDIFICATIONMaintaining ASHRAE standards and combating ESD
In its guidelines for data centre design,ASHRAE recommends maintaining ahumidity level of between 40-60%RHand specifies an allowable range of 8-80%RH (see fig. 1).
In order to reach the ASHRAE standard,data centres in most temperate climateswill require humidification during thewinter months.
For data centres using free air coolingin cold regions, high capacity, lowenergy adiabatic humidification is amust in order to remain within theASHRAE window.
A single Condair adiabatic humidifiercan deliver up to 680kW of evaporativecooling while operating on less than1kW of electricity.
This technology increases the coolingcapacity of a data centre’s ventilationsystem and extends the use of free aircooling into periods when the outside
air alone is too warm to meet therequired internal conditions.
Condair humidifiers are used to deliver low energy evaporative coolingdirectly to incoming fresh air, as well asbeing incorporated into indirectevaporative cooling systems.
These low energy cooling techniquescan significantly reduce or eveneliminate the need for mechanicalcooling in data centres with a resultantdrop in PUE.
