It was cold. Now we are not talking refrigirator cold. I’m talking it freezes when you pee cold. Easily the coldest day of the year so far and if this is anything to go by it’s going to be a cold one this winter. While I waited outside the unit all I could hear was the near by sounds of the local car wash and the occational passing car. That all changed. In the distance I could just about make out the sound of what I thought was a bike, and then there was V-Tec.

Waiting around in the cold was all worth it when this showed up.O

When John Fallon of Private Imports arrived I really was blown away. Even though I could hardly stand anymore I could instantly tell that this really was something special that John had brought along. John had brought with him his friend Ewen MacRae’s Honda Civic EF9 which he bought in 2006 from Yahoo auctions. I think the best way to go from here is to state that Ewen has built this car with one thing in mind, slaying cars on track especially The Ring. Shortly after buying the car he fitted DBA Street series discs front and rear with Ferodo DS2500 pads along with braided lines and a rebuilt master cylinder. After that it was time for a rebuilt Y1 gearbox with 1.5 Kaaz differential and Raxle drive shafts. This wasn’t for no reason. Soon after that he took the car to the ring and hammered it round but found that the B16 was lacking in power. After that there was only one way to go, an import B18C Integra engine. So Ewen set about sourcing a Teg on import as it was the cheapest way of doing what he wanted. Ewen began work on the car on March of this year and manged to strip the Civic and broke the Teg down. He kept hold of the engine and oil cooler and sold the rest on. He traded the stock Recaro seats for a rewired engine and dash harness which involved a fair amount of work, stripping the dash of any unused wires, and transferring the connectors from the Teg’s loom to the new one.

The engine was stripped down to the block and everything that could be removed was, for cleaning or bead blasting. Also everything that had to be was re-painted including the engine bay. Ewen then replaced all the usual parts like timing belt, water pump etc and fitted the sump, a new set of OEM engine mounts, as well as things like a new Rocker cover. The end result is an engine bay that looks OEM and can be classed as a proper B18 conversion as it uses everything from the later car like distributor, manifold and ECU. That was until he fitted the Mine’s ECU with a custom remap.

Ewen took the car back to The Ring this year and was very happy with the performance but the modding will not stop there. He also wants to fit some 4 pot Spoon calipers that he acquired a while back. Ewen also wants to fit a smaller tail pipe as the current Kakimoto exhaust that is on it is not to his liking. This car isn’t a daily driver, far from it. Come this time of year the car is normally wrapped up in cotton wool so as it doesn’t come in to contact with any salt so as to maintain it’s amazing body shell.

In my opinion what I have been able to write here can in no way do justice for the amount of work that has gone into and will continue to go into this car. It really is a pristine example with its original paintwork, mint condition interior and spotless bodywork, this really is the cleanest EF I have seen.

Im also looking forward to the future to see what Ewen has up his sleeve. With a strong background in motorsport and currently owning a total of 8 cars, I’m almost certain I will be featuring another one in the not to distant future.

I am really glad that I had the opertunity to shoot this car as I have a feeling that we are not going to see many fine examples of Civc EF’s like this roaming around the UK.

Thanks for reading.
