Dear fellow Rotarians,
Ask any Rotarian what led them to Rotary, and you'll
usually get different answers. Why? Not only does
Rotary mean different things to members in different
parts of the world, it also has a unique meaning for
each Rotarian. However, we are all brought together in
three important ways. We believe in Rotary values and
all share the same Four Way Test. We believe in
friendships and love spending time together. And we
take great satisfaction in helping others – we are
committed to Service.
The Distr ict Board has assumed important
responsibilities and I thank them for this hard work.
They have made a commitment to help grow Rotary,
adapt to the digital future and make Rotary more
appealing to younger generations. We have important
work in front of us and so many opportunities to open
for others and ourselves. I hope you will continue your
journey with us, as we continue to serve our
communities so that future generations can thrive as
Rotary Opens Opportunities.

Message from RI President Knaack Holger
THE 2020-21 PRESIDENTIAL THEME: ROTARY OPENS OPPORTUNITIES
Fourteen years ago, Rotary held its
first International Assembly here in
San Diego. And I was sitting right
where you are - as a District Governor-
Elect. I was nervous then about the
responsibilities ahead of me and the
challenges of leadership.
Now, here we are in 2020, at the
final International Assembly to be
held here in San Diego — and I am still
s o m e w h a t n e r v o u s . T h e
responsibilities are larger for me this
time. But so are the possibilities. I am so excited to
share with you all the opportunities that lie in front of
us.
At home, you are part of a team that works together
year to year, making sure that your district's most
important work does not end with a new year of
leadership, but continues with greater emphasis. I am
also part of a team. I will be proud to continue
President Mark Maloney's strong commitment to
growing Rotary. However, I will not be asking you to
grow by specific numbers, for a very simple reason —
every time that we have asked to grow by specific
numbers, we have failed. Instead of focusing on
numbers, I want you to think about how we can grow
Rotary organically and sustainably.
How can we keep our current
members and win new members who
fit our clubs?
Then, how can we make our
organization stronger to face the
challenges before us? We must rise
to this incredible moment — when we
are recognized worldwide for our
efforts to end polio — and fix our roof
while the sun is shining. In many
ways, Rotary is in wonderful shape.
We are financially strong still. The Rotary Foundation
is recognized as one of the world's best charities. Our
global grants continue to grow, and we become a more
internationally focused organization every year.
We are also evolving in interesting ways. There are
now more Asian Rotarians than North American. But
there are risks if current trends continue. Especially in
areas where we see an aging population, Rotary is
declining and over-aged. We cannot stand still and be
satisfied with everything we have done. The digital
revolution has affected us much harder than we
anticipated. Others have faced this challenge before
us and fared poorly.
Knaack is the CEO of Knaack KG,
a real estate company. He was
previously a partner and general
manager of Knaack Enterprises,
a 125-year-old family business.
He is a founding member of the
Civic Foundation of the City of
Ratzeburg and served as
President of the Golf-Club Gut
Grambek. Knaack is also the
founder and chair of the Karl Adam Foundation. A
Rotary member of Rotary Club of Herzogtum
Lauenburg-Mölln, Germany since 1992, Knaack has
served Rotary as treasurer, director, moderator,
member and cha i r o f severa l commit tees ,
representative for the Council on Legislation, Zone
Coordinator, Training Leader and District Governor. He
is an Endowment/Major Gifts adviser and was co-chair
of the Host Organization Committee for the 2019
Rotary International Convention in Hamburg. Knaack
and his wife, Susanne, are Major Donors to The Rotary
Foundation and members of the Bequest Society.
Introduction of RI President Knaack Holger
Message from DG Rashmi Kulkarni
Dear President,
It's my great pleasure to share
my views and thoughts with
you in writing.
It has been almost one & half
years since I am in touch with
your President as if like we are
from one family and in the past
few months seems like we have
been transported far away physically and meeting
virtually on a daily basis.
When we think of 2020-21, the first thing that comes
to mind is how to go about OUR year. So many
questions cloud our mind immediately…. what's
next?..., what about covid19?…., what about the
installation ceremony?..., DG visit…, service projects…
so on and so forth.
Well let me start from the beginning… ,
One at a time!
Installation! Obviously virtual in June and in July
depending on the pandemic situation, but doesn't
matter! Ceremony is one part but I feel happy about the
money you saved!
We have made fantastic plans for Service projects; PI,
TRF etc. and your club can do micro planning as we are
getting 1-2 months more than previous years. Assume
that our year will be of 10 months. First two months
you will have tremendous scope to show your
leadership to keep members occupied and scope to
show your creativity in holding meetings, maintaining
personal relations with members, being cheerful &
keep them cheerful. I'm sure your club members will
support you in all your efforts in making 2020-21 a
grand success.
In these unforeseen circumstances, Rotary has given
us all a unique opportunity to serve the community
unitedly. Your President has done wonderful training,
great planning for the year and you are all on the
starting line raring to begin the new Rotary year 2020-
21.
As I said earlier first two months of planning and the
remaining 10 months to implement and put in action all
the plans for various projects.
My dear Rotarian friends, this Rotary year is going to
be very unique and special for everyone. You all are
fortunate enough to experience a different kind of
year where each and every Rotarian is going to put his
best foot forward.
Friends the situation demands that we as Rotarians
rise to the occasion and meet and overcome all
challenges that may come our way. It is an opportunity
to show the community that Rotary serves and cares.
Will like to share one story….
Parents of a child who was spastic went to Mother
Teresa to seek her blessings. They asked a touching
question. “Why we? Why do we have a child like this?”
She answered, “Children, God has faith in you that you
are the ones who are capable to grow and bring up such
a baby.”
So dear Presidents, don't ask why our year, because we
know we have special capacity to handle the situation.
We are taking Rotary ahead in full swing even in
adverse circumstances and coming out in flying
colours.
All my best wishes!
Message from AG Dinkar Palaskar
thHeartiest Congratulations to President Kirti & team RCP Katraj for entering into 25 Silver
Jubilee year! It's a great pleasure for me to associate with your club for the year 2020-
2021 as Assistant Governor. I am sure that we will work together and make this year a
memorable year even in this COVID-19 pandemic situation by helping you to be in the top 5
clubs in RID 3131. District 3131 team will always be there to support you. All the best &
have a great and successful year ahead!
Dear fellow Rotarians,
Firstly, I would like to thank you
all for electing me as our club
leader. In 2007, I joined Rotary
Club of Pune Katraj with limited
knowledge of Rotary. It didn't
take long to learn about the
many wonderful things Rotary
International has accomplished.
From Polio vaccines to Student
Exchange Programs to projects
all over the world designed to improve the quality of
life for others, Rotary has an incredible history of
taking on amazing projects. I'm so proud to be a
Rotarian, so proud to be connected to such a positive
force for good in the world, so proud to be the
President of the Rotary Club of Pune Katraj. I have
always wanted to help others, connecting with Rotary
has enabled me to do just that.
thI feel very proud that our club has entered in its 25
year, yes; we are going to celebrate Silver Jubilee. The
theme of the club for this year is Esha. Esha, means
keen desire, Desire comes from within, especially to
do something good for the society. I am sure, all of us
have a desire to come together to do something
impactful & fulfill Rotary's motto, "Service above
self" while celebrating this Silver Jubilee together.
ESHA is not only a program; it is a celebration - A
celebration of our achievements over the past 24
years to bring the club on a great height. This
achievement is of all members who have taken lots of
efforts to form the club, all the Past Presidents & all
the members of Rotary club of Pune Katraj.
As we are going through a pandemic, we found
ourselves in a totally transformed world. We have been
forced to connect in ways, we could never have
imagined, testing our ability to adapt. We have to make
tough decisions. Together everyone is placing public
good and welfare first, despite the loss of gathering
for meetings and projects that have been planned for
year. During this pandemic we have planned activities,
online meetings and individual projects. Every bit of an
effort is very precious. You need a number as small as 1
to make 100 from 99. Just like you need a lot of single
1's to make a hundred, every single thing you say, think
and do makes who you are and has an impact on
yourself, and the society.
When I was selected as the President of the club, I
declared my first plan of year 20-21 is to have our
club's branding and website. Deploying a thoughtfully
developed and consistent brand identity, will help us
broaden our reach, to create more steady recognition,
to connect others to our story & our accomplishments,
and most important ly , he lp us further our
organization's mission.
I always believe in projects which make beneficiaries
self-sustainable so they themselves can earn good to
live a better life. The Godhadi project was started with
the same thought in 2015. This project reached all
over Maharashtra through its Facebook page.
Considering the seven focus areas of Rotary, our
district and club's thrust areas, we have planned
projects individually and in synergy. Our club has
planned an organic farming training centre for
betterment of farmers, people, their health and the
planet. We will be doing projects for all age groups from
children to senior citizens in rural and urban areas.
Rotary believes in developing the next generation of
leaders. Our programs help young leaders build
leadership skills, expand education and learn the value
of service. We will be working closely with our Rotaract
and Interact clubs.
This year I will strive to improve attendance, involve all
members so they can enjoy Rotary activities, increase
membership, strengthen our Rotary image and create
a positive change in communities.
I'm privileged to have a Board of enthusiastic
Rotarians & experienced Past Presidents. I look
forward to another exciting year with all of you.
Together we will grab this opportunity and engage in
the projects that will fill this world with light. Last but
not the least; we should all remember what RI
president Holger Knaack said, “Time won't slow down
for Rotary. We will not let rapid change defeat us. We
will capture this moment to grow Rotary, making it
stronger, more adaptable, and even more aligned with
our core values.” Let's not forget, Rotary opens
opportunities and helps, improve the lives of those in
need.

The Rotary club of Pune Katraj was the brainchild of our charter president late Dr. R.P. Joshi Sir. In the
month of November 1995, he along with Mr. Arvind Joshi, Mr. Sunil Zagade, Mr. Hanumant Bhosale, Mr.
Sant, Mr. Prakash Shah, came with the idea that they once again want to be part of the Rotary movement
which they had left abruptly 6 months back. There were lot of technical issues as Rotary was known to
have had lot of strict formalities 25 years ago, including the name to be decided for the club, the sponsor
for the club, etc. At this juncture, the Rotary Club of Pune Tilak Road and our GSR Rtn. Ashok Durve came
forward and gave the assurance that the club will be formed. The DG Rtn. Phillly Karani also came forward
with his support. He gave lot of valuable inputs to avoid conflict of interest with other club territories. All
these members started meeting every day in the evening at 9 pm at the GSR's house. It was because of
the untiring efforts of late charter President Dr. R.P. Joshi that the Rotary club of Pune Katraj could come
into existence. Getting 25 members was not an easy task, but it was done with great enthusiasm. All the
staff members of Muktangan school helped for getting the details of members and ultimately in March
the form was filled in the office of the DG to be sent to Rotary International. Efforts of President of Rotary
Club of Pune Tilak Road & GSR were instrumental in sorting out all the legal issues. In the month of May,
the efforts of all took a very positive turn and we received our charter dated 16th May 1996. The joy on
the face of the founding father of our club knew no bounds as their efforts had reaped the results. But the
work was not over as the Charter Presentation ceremony was to be done in very professional way. The
charter presentation ceremony was held at Boat Club and the journey began, which is still continuing.

Rotary Club of Pune Katraj completed the Tree plantation Project with their Club members. We studied the plants
supporting the Environment and got them from Devrai Nursery, Thevur, run by Shri Raghunathji Dhole, Awarded as
'A Tree Man' for his massive plantation project. We distributed around 30 Local Floral plants like Tamhan, Bakul,
Waver, Bhava, Mehendi, Arjun, Karanji and Putranjiva which will grow as big trees in a year or two. Our Members
have planted them in their bunglows, societies and also in Apartments in small pots temporarily and later these
plants will be shifted into the land. Few members have planted Local shrubs like Tulsi or roses or hibiscus also. We
are not only doing the beautification of the city by the plantation but also intending the birds to return back and
nesting on these trees. Birds will increase species of these rear plants by seed transportation. In this way we are
supporting the Environment, which is the need of time!
1st July - Project - Tree Plantation - Rtn. Anjali Hugay
As we all know that Trees are like the Lungs of the Earth. A mature tree can
absorb 21kgs of Carbon Dioxide and releases Oxygen to sustain two human
beings. They protect us from harmful UV Rays. They reduce water overflow
and erosion by storing water. Besides this, trees cool down the air reducing
the Heat Island. Rotary Club of Pune Katraj did the Tree plantation Project at
Bandewadi, Velu, Khed Shivapur, Tal Haveli, Dist.Pune with local Teachers
group staying at the foot hill. We studied the plants suitable to grow on the
hills under the guidance of Shri Raghunathji Dhole, awarded as 'A Tree Man'
for his massive plantation project at Thevur. We collected the plants of
variety like Behada, Hirda, Katesavar, Apta, Pimple, Dhawda, Sitafal,
Bahawa, Jambhul, Termarind and Kanchan, from Devrai Nursery, Thevur. We
have planted around 70 plants with the help of Local Teacher's Group there,
later who will be taking care of the plantation on day to day basis. A
naturally formed well of a capacity of 10000ltr there is sufficient for about 100 plants. Net guards are arranged by
teachers to protect newly planted plants. Members from our club will visit once a month to check the status of
plantation. The plants will grow into large deciduous trees in 2-3 years into big trees and will become nest to many
birds. The exhaled oxygen by Trees will clean the Environment. Greenery on the hills will bring the rains in the area.
This way we will be supporting the Environment as Environment Revolution begins with Greening Motherland.
5th July - Project - Tree Plantation - Rtn. Anjali Hugay
1st July - Project - Doctor's Day - Rtn. Vaishali Lupane
st1 July is National Doctor's day and on

We participated in Synergy project of District 3131: Mask Distribution From Pancham Project. The Masks with
Rotary logo were distributed amongst the house maids or society security guards or safai karmachari or equal
community poor people to protect them from Covid-19. Kirti, Namita, Pushkaraj & Mugdha distributed the masks to
all the club members. We distributed around 300 masks from Donations from our club members Pandit Sir, Kirti,
Pushkaraj, Narendra, Namita, Rupali and Prasad. This is a really good PI activity of Rotary and people are showing
their gratitude towards the gift. This project is carried out under Project- Pancham by district. It's a program of 5
service projects. Mask Distribution is one part of this project. We can continue this project if members want to
distribute mask to staff of their office staff, all security guards of your society etc by your generous contribution.
The idea behind this project is PI of Rotary & Health with prevention of diseases. As there is necessity of use of
mask to avoid spread of virus & also reduce chance of virus to enter in our body. Prevention is always better than
cure.
