Dark Knight – Action, Crime, Thriller

2008 British-American superhero film directed, produced, and co written by Christopher Nolan.

When Batman, Gordon and Harvey Dent launch an assault on the mob, they let the clown out of the box, the Joker, bent on turning Gotham on

itself and bringing any heroes down to his level.

The film begins with an establishing long shot of a few buildings. The shot zooms into one building glass window and as the shot gets closer the window shatters. Through this the director hints out that the film contains action within as we are seeing and hearing glass breaking. Next through a mid shot the viewer is shown of a character with a mask of a clown, which suggests there is a sense of mystery in the film as they are keeping their identity a secret, crime is related at this sense as they are not wanting to be caught of the crime that is about to take place. A gun is also shown in this mid shot as he is shooting it out the window. Throughout the movie opening no identity is revealed apart from one which is the ‘Joker’ he is shown at the very end of the opening and is spoken of within other unrevealed characters. A car is very often used in crime films; it usually associates with fast movements and getaway. In addition to this it helps create a great amount of climax. There is a car which appears in the next shot where 3 more ‘clown’ characters are sat in it. Again while this is happening guns are shown to the viewer and the sound of it clicking which hints there will be violence taking place. By the end of the film opening a lot of money is shown when they have robbed a bank.
