8 x Nerium oleander used in the next ring of

plants interspaced and in front of the

Tecoma

6 x Tecoma stans planted

around base of Baobab

160 x Duranta repens gold used as edging plant

around the roundabout perimeter

120 x Crown Flower plant Calotropis, with its gold and green leaves and shade tolerance

used as a flowering and foliage ‘’filler’’.

Grows to 3m height when pruned. Flowers

profusely all-year round. Drought tolerant.

Large baobab (approx.10m)

trees are readily moved and replanted

Oleander is a strong vigorous plant that is

drought tolerant and hardy. It flowers all-year round and can be pruned to

height to accompany the Tecoma.

60 x red Hibiscus

interplanted with Calotropis

ROUNDABOUTSDETAIL OF PLANTING

SCHEME

It occurs naturally in Tanzania and is drought tolerant

Hibiscus is dry-tolerant and needs only pruning

and limited water to flower throughout the year

Fast-growing and hedges well with

bright foliage

NOTEThe soil will be covered with compost and bark chips for

final appearance and water

conservation

The advantages of this planting scheme are: shape, colour, ease of

maintenance and clear line of sight

across roundabout

Carriageway Median Strips:Rusellia

equisetiformis to 1m height (centre) and Dianella to 50cm height (border)

Delonix regiaTo maximum

height of 6-7m Roadway: vehicles illustrate

Plant roots to be restricted by

growing bags or concrete ‘’box’’

Grass cover all areas not cultivated to plants

in median strips

Mulch

The planting scheme is easy to maintain and

control, as Delonix are easy to prune and best managed

by annual branch doctoring; Rusellia can be cut back to ground level to

rejuvenate as required; Dianella can be thinned

All plants are dry-tolerant

and flower well

Rusellia is a fast-growing succulent

that flowers throughout the year and very hardy and

dry-tolerant

Rusellia equisetiformis in

a centre row along the island

Dianella intermedia planted with the

Rusellia along the outer margins

ROADWAY MEDIANS:PLANTING SCHEME

Dianella is a grass-like plant that grows by

clumping and is extremely hardy and dry-tolerant and

is very attractive when used with Rusellia

Delonix regia for

centreline planting at

25m intervals

All garden shrubs like these require regular pruning

after short and long rains. Pruning thickens shrubs and improves flowering

Dramatic architectural ‘’tree’’ stands proposed for the forecourt and esplanade:

Bougainvillea brasiliensis ‘Raspberry Ice’ for planting on the structures:

Every tree stand will have a different variety of bougainvillea or species of

climber providing a spectacular range of forms and colours throughout the year
