DIVISION 16000 GENERAL SPECIFICATIONS-FIRE ALARM SYSTEM WORK 1. SCOPE: THIS SPECIFICATION SHALL GOVERN ALL PHASES OF WORK REFERENCED HERETO AND APPLIES TO WORK TO BE DONE BY THE CONTRACTOR. THESE SPECIFICATIONS DEFINE THE BASIC REQUIREMENTS FOR THE INSTALLATION OF A SIMPLEX ADDRESSABLE FIRE ALARM SYSTEM. THE SPECIFICATIONS ARE INTENDED TO CONVEY THE SCOPE OF WORK AND TO INDICATE THE GENERAL REQUIREMENTS FOR THE EQUIPMENT AND IT'S INSTALLATION. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL PROVIDE QUALIFIED SUPERVISION, LABOR, EQUIPMENT, MATERIALS AND OTHER ITEMS NECESSARY FOR A SAFE, COMPLETE AND FUNCTIONING ADDRESSABLE FIRE ALARM SYSTEM WHETHER OR ALL INCIDENTAL MATERIAL OR EQUIPMENT IS INDICATED HEREIN. 2. PRIORITY OF SPECIFICATIONS: WHEREVER THE WORD "PROVIDE OR INSTALL" IS USED IN THESE SPECIFICATIONS OR ON THE DRAWINGS IT SHALL MEAN "THE CONTRACTOR IS TO PROVIDE AND INSTALL COMPLETE AND READY FOR INTENDED USE BY THE OWNER". DRAWINGS: THE DRAWINGS SHOW THE GENERAL ARRANGEMENT OF EQUIPMENT AND APPURTENANCES AND SHALL BE FOLLOWED AS CLOSELY AS ACTUAL PROJECT CONSTRUCTION AND THE WORK OF OTHER TRADES WILL PERMIT. BECAUSE OF THE SMALL SCALE OF THE DRAWINGS, IT IS NOT FEASIBLE TO INDICATE ALL OFFSETS, FITTINGS AND ACCESSORIES WHICH MAY BE REQUIRED. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL INVESTIGATE THE CONSTRUCTION CONDITIONS AFFECTING THE WORK AND PROVIDE FITTINGS AND ACCESSORIES AS REQUIRED TO MEET ACTUAL CONDITIONS. VERIFY ALL DIMENSION BY FIELD MEASUREMENTS. THE INSTALLATION SHALL COMPLY WITH THE 2011 NATIONAL ELECTRICAL CODE (NEC), EQUIPMENT AND MATERIALS SHALL BE MANUFACTURED IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE FOLLOWING STANDARDS, WHERE APPLICABLE: NFPA 72 NATIONAL FIRE ALARM & SIGNALING CODE AMERICAN NATIONAL STANDARDS INSTITUTE (ANSI) NATIONAL ELECTRICAL MANUFACTURERS ASSOCIATION (NEMA) NATIONAL FIRE PROTECTION ASSOCIATION (NFPA) UNDERWRITER'S LABORATORIES (UL) 6. VISITING THE SITE: THE CONTRACTOR SHOULD VISIT THE SITE TO FAMILIARIZE HIMSELF WITH ALL EXISTING CONDITIONS TO BE MET IN THE EXECUTION OF THE WORK UNDER THIS CONTRACT. NO ADDITIONAL COMPENSATION WILL BE ALLOWED FOR ANY CHANGES HE MAY BE REQUIRED TO MAKE BECAUSE OF THESE CONDITIONS. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL FAMILIARIZE HIMSELF WITH THE DOCUMENTS AND EXISTING SITE CONDITIONS THE CONTRACTOR SHALL FAMILIARIZE HIMSELF WITH THE DOCUMENTS AND EXISTING SITE CONDITIONS AND SHALL INVESTIGATE AND INCLUDE ALL PERTINENT ITEMS WITHIN HIS WORK TO PRODUCE A COMPLETE PROJECT, READY FOR USE BY OWNER. QUESTIONS RELATED TO SCOPE SHOULD BE CLARIFIED PRIOR TO BID SUBMISSION. 7. MATERIALS AND WORKMANSHIP: EQUIPMENT AND MATERIAL USED IN THE PROJECT SHALL BE NEW AND UNDAMAGED. THE ADDRESSABLE FIRE ALARM SYSTEM SHALL FIT ADDRESSABLE FIRE ALARM SYSTEM SHALL FIT SHALL FIT INTO THE SPACE ALLOTTED AND SHALL ALLOW ADEQUATE, ACCEPTABLE, CLEARANCES FOR ENTRY, SERVICING AND MAINTENANCE. WORK SHALL BE PREFORMED BY QUALIFIED TRADESMEN SKILLED IN THE TRADE INVOLVED UNDER DIRECT SUPERVISION OF A VIRGINIA LICENSED MASTER ELECTRICIAN AND/OR CERTIFIED FACTORY TRAINED NICET TECHNICIANS. ALL EQUIPMENT AND MATERIAL USED ON THIS PROJECT ALL EQUIPMENT AND MATERIAL USED ON THIS PROJECT SHALL BE NEW AND LISTED BY THE UNDERWRITER'S LABORATORIES, ELECTRICAL TESTING LABORATORIES, INC. OR OTHER RECOGNIZED TESTING AGENCY AND SHALL BEAR THEIR LABEL. 8. EQUIPMENT SUBMITTAL DATA: SHOP DRAWINGS, CATALOG DATA SHEETS OR SUCH OTHER DATA NECESSARY TO FULLY DESCRIBE AND SUBSTANTIATE COMPLIANCE WITH THE SPECIFICATIONS SHALL BE SUBMITTED FOR ALL EQUIPMENT AND MATERIALS. PROVIDE FIVE (5) HARD COPIES AND ONE ELECTRONIC COPY OF ALL REQUIRED SUBMITTALS. WITHIN 30 DAYS AFTER AWARD OF CONTRACT, THE CONTRACTOR SHALL SUBMIT A COMPLETE LIST OF EQUIPMENT TO BE FURNISHED, GIVING MANUFACTURER'S NAME AND CATALOG NUMBER FOR EACH ITEM. TRADE NAMES AND CATALOG NUMBERS SHALL BE INTERPRETED AS ESTABLISHING A STANDARD OF QUALITY AND SHALL NOT BE CONSTRUED AS LIMITING COMPETITION. UNLESS DEFINITELY STATED OTHERWISE, THE CONTRACTOR MAY USE ANY ARTICLE WHICH IN HIS JUDGMENT IS EQUAL TO THAT SPECIFIED AND IS ACCEPTED BY THE ENGINEER. IF ANY ITEM PROPOSED NECESSITATES CHANGES IN ANY OTHER SYSTEM FROM THAT SHOWN ON THE DRAWINGS, THE CONTRACTOR IS RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY ADDITIONAL COSTS INVOLVED. WHERE SUCH CHANGES ARE REQUIRED, DETAIL DRAWINGS INDICATING THE REQUIRED CHANGES SHALL BE SUBMITTED FOR REVIEW AT THE SAME TIME THE MANUFACTURER'S DRAWINGS ARE SUBMITTED. SHOP DRAWINGS ARE REQUIRED FOR THE FOLLOWING: FIRE ALARM SURFACE METAL RACEWAYS AND BOXES FIRE STOPPING/SYSTEM/DETAILS 9. FINISHES: THE CONTRACTOR SHALL REPAIR ANY DAMAGE TO EXISTING SURFACE (FLOORS, WALL, CEILING, ETC.) RELATED TO NEW WORK. ALL NEW SURFACES TO MATCH EXISTING MATERIALS AND COLORS, AND BE FREE OF ALL BUILD-UPS, DRIP, ETC. TO PROVIDE A SMOOTH PROFESSIONAL APPEARANCE. ALL EXPOSED METAL RACEWAYS SHALL BE PAINTED TO MATCH EXISTING SURFACES. 10. COORDINATION OF WORK: UNLESS STATED OTHERWISE, CONTRACTOR SHALL DO ALL CUTTING NECESSARY FOR THE INSTALLATION OF HIS WORK. CUTTING WHICH WILL IN ANY WAY AFFECT A STRUCTURE SHALL NOT BE PERFORMED WITHOUT PERMISSION OF THE ENGINEER. THE CONTRACTOR IS RESPONSIBLE FOR PATCHING WHERE HE DOES CUTTING. PATCHING SHALL BE DONE TO THE SATISFACTION OF THE VT PM. THE CONTRACTOR IS RESPONSIBLE FOR DAMAGE TO OTHER WORK CAUSED BY HIS WORK OR WORKMEN. 11. EQUIPMENT INSTALLATION: EQUIPMENT SHALL BE INSTALLED IN ACCORDANCE WITH MANUFACTURERS INSTRUCTIONS TO CONFORM WITH THE DETAILS AND APPLICATION INDICATED. PROVIDE NECESSARY SUPPORTS FOR ALL EQUIPMENT AND APPURTENANCES AS REQUIRED; THIS INCLUDES BUT IS NOT LIMITED TO FRAMES OR SUPPORTS FOR ITEMS SUCH AS SAFETY SWITCHES AND OTHER SIMILAR ITEMS REQUIRING SUPPORTS. 12. RECORD DRAWING: ON COMPLETION OF THE PROJECT, THE CONTRACTOR SHALL PROVIDE THE A/E WITH ONE SET OF MARKED UP (RED LINE) "AS BUILT" D UP (RED LINE) "AS BUILT" UP (RED LINE) "AS BUILT" DRAWINGS. THE A/E WILL UPDATE/CREATE RECORD DOCUMENTS TO BE PROVIDED TO VT FACILITIES RECORD SERVICES. 13. CATALOG DATA FOR OWNER: THE CONTRACTOR SHALL PROVIDE ONE BOUND COPY OF COMPILATION OF CATALOG DATA OF EACH MANUFACTURED ITEM OF EQUIPMENT USED IN THE ELECTRICAL WORK AND SHALL PRESENT THIS COMPILATION TO THE ENGINEER FOR TRANSMITTAL TO THE OWNER BEFORE FINAL PAYMENT IS MADE. THREE COPIES OF OPERATING AND MAINTENANCE INSTRUCTIONS FOR EACH ITEM OF EQUIPMENT BOUND INDIVIDUALLY SHALL BE PROVIDED. A COMPLETE INDEX SHALL BE PROVIDED LISTING THE PRODUCTS ALPHABETICALLY BY NAME. 14. INSTRUCTION OF OWNER'S REPRESENTATIVE: THE ELECTRICAL CONTRACTOR SHALL INSTRUCT THE REPRESENTATIVE OF THE OWNER IN THE PROPER OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE OF ALL ELEMENTS OF THE FIRE ALARM SYSTEM. COMPETENT REPRESENTATIVES OF THE CONTRACTOR SHALL SPEND TIME AS NECESSARY TO FULLY PREPARE THE OWNER TO OPERATE AND MAINTAIN THE FIRE ALARM SYSTEM. 15. GUARANTEE: THE CONTRACTOR SHALL GUARANTEE ALL EQUIPMENT AND MATERIAL FURNISHED UNDER HIS SCOPE OF WORK FOR A PERIOD OF ONE (1) YEAR AFTER DATE OF FINAL ACCEPTANCE. EQUIPMENT MANUFACTURER'S WARRANTIES SHALL BE PASSED TO THE OWNER. SHOULD ANY DEFECTS APPEAR WITHIN THIS PERIOD, THE CONTRACTOR SHALL REPAIR OR REPLACE SAID DEFECTS OR ANY DAMAGE TO BUILDING OR CONTENTS CAUSED BY DEFECTIVE WORKMANSHIP OR EQUIPMENT, AND SHALL MAKE REQUIRED ADJUSTMENTS AT NO COST TO THE OWNER. 16. INSPECTION REPORTS: EACH ITEM OF DISCREPANCIES NOTED ON FINAL INSPECTION REPORTS PREPARED BY THE ENGINEER SHALL BE ANSWERED IN DETAIL IN WRITING BY THE CONTRACTOR BEFORE FINAL ACCEPTANCE OF THE SYSTEMS CAN BE RECOMMENDED. 17. SUPPORTS AND HANGERS: THE CONTRACTOR SHALL PROVIDE ALL SUPPORTS AND HANGER MATERIALS REQUIRED TO SUPPORT CONDUIT; BOXES; FIXTURES AND EQUIPMENT REQUIRED FOR THIS PROJECT. HANGER/SUPPORT SPACING SHALL BE AS REQUIRED IN THE NEC. MATERIALS USED SHALL BE NEW AND APPROVED FOR THE PURPOSE. EXPOSED SUPPORTS/HANGERS SHALL BE PAINTED TO MATCH ADJACENT EXISTING SURFACES. 18. WIRE: PROVIDE WIRE AND CABLES SUITABLE FOR THE LOCATION WHERE INSTALLED. FIRE ALARM CABLES SHALL BE PLENUM RATED INSTALLED IN EMT CONDUIT OR SURFACE RACEWAYS. 19. CONDUIT: CONDUIT SHALL BE CONCEALED IN FINISHED AREAS. CONDUITS SHALL BE SECURELY FASTENED. A MAXIMUM OF FOUR 90-DEGREE BONDS BETWEEN ANY TWO BOXES, FIXTURES OR PANELS SHALL BE PERMITTED FOR EACH CONDUIT RUN. CONDUIT SHALL BE SIZED IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE ALLOWABLE FILL PERMITTED BY THE NEC. WHERE CONDUIT CAN NOT BE CONCEALED IN A WALL OR ABOVE THE CEILING SURFACE METALLIC RACEWAYS MAYBE USED. MINIMUM SIZE FOR SURFACE RACEWAY SHALL BE WIREMOLD WM700. RACEWAYS MUST BE RUN VERTICAL AND PLUMB WITH SUPPORTS AT 24" MAXIMUM SPACING. SURFACE METAL RACEWAYS SHALL BE RUN EXPOSED JUST BELOW THE CEILING. CONDUIT SHALL BE ELECTRICAL METALLIC TUBING (EMT) WITH STEEL FITTINGS LISTED FOR THE PURPOSE. DIE CAST CONDUIT FITTING SHALL NOT BE USED ON THIS PROJECT. EXPOSED CONDUITS AND SURFACE RACEWAYS SHALL BE PAINTED TO MATCH ADJACENT EXISTING SURFACES. HOLES THROUGH RATED SLABS AND WALLS SHALL BE FIRE STOPPED HILTI FS-ONE OR APPROVED EQUAL. 20. BOXES AND COVERS: BOXES SHALL BE FURNISHED AND INSTALLED AS NEEDED. PULL BOXES SHALL BE FURNISHED AND INSTALLED AS REQUIRED, WHETHER OR NOT SPECIFICALLY CALLED OUT ON PLANS. THE INSTALLATION SHALL COMPLY WITH THE 2011 NATIONAL ELECTRICAL CODE (NEC), EQUIPMENT AND MATERIALS SHALL BE MANUFACTURED IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE FOLLOWING STANDARDS, WHERE APPLICABLE: NFPA 72 NATIONAL FIRE ALARM & SIGNALING CODE AMERICAN NATIONAL STANDARDS INSTITUTE (ANSI) NATIONAL ELECTRICAL MANUFACTURERS ASSOCIATION (NEMA) NATIONAL FIRE PROTECTION ASSOCIATION (NFPA) UNDERWRITER'S LABORATORIES (UL) 6. VISITING THE SITE: THE CONTRACTOR SHOULD VISIT THE SITE TO FAMILIARIZE HIMSELF WITH ALL EXISTING CONDITIONS TO BE MET IN THE EXECUTION OF THE WORK UNDER THIS CONTRACT. NO ADDITIONAL COMPENSATION WILL BE ALLOWED FOR ANY CHANGES HE MAY BE REQUIRED TO MAKE BECAUSE OF THESE CONDITIONS. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL FAMILIARIZE HIMSELF WITH THE DOCUMENTS AND EXISTING SITE CONDITIONS THE CONTRACTOR SHALL FAMILIARIZE HIMSELF WITH THE DOCUMENTS AND EXISTING SITE CONDITIONS AND SHALL INVESTIGATE AND INCLUDE ALL PERTINENT ITEMS WITHIN HIS WORK TO PRODUCE A COMPLETE PROJECT, READY FOR USE BY OWNER. QUESTIONS RELATED TO SCOPE SHOULD BE CLARIFIED PRIOR TO BID SUBMISSION. 7. MATERIALS AND WORKMANSHIP: EQUIPMENT AND MATERIAL USED IN THE PROJECT SHALL BE NEW AND UNDAMAGED. THE ADDRESSABLE FIRE ALARM SYSTEM SHALL FIT ADDRESSABLE FIRE ALARM SYSTEM SHALL FIT SHALL FIT INTO THE SPACE ALLOTTED AND SHALL ALLOW ADEQUATE, ACCEPTABLE, CLEARANCES FOR ENTRY, SERVICING AND MAINTENANCE. WORK SHALL BE PREFORMED BY QUALIFIED TRADESMEN SKILLED IN THE TRADE INVOLVED UNDER DIRECT SUPERVISION OF A VIRGINIA LICENSED MASTER ELECTRICIAN AND/OR CERTIFIED FACTORY TRAINED NICET TECHNICIANS. ALL EQUIPMENT AND MATERIAL USED ON THIS PROJECT ALL EQUIPMENT AND MATERIAL USED ON THIS PROJECT SHALL BE NEW AND LISTED BY THE UNDERWRITER'S LABORATORIES, ELECTRICAL TESTING LABORATORIES, INC. OR OTHER RECOGNIZED TESTING AGENCY AND SHALL BEAR THEIR LABEL. 8. EQUIPMENT SUBMITTAL DATA: SHOP DRAWINGS, CATALOG DATA SHEETS OR SUCH OTHER DATA NECESSARY TO FULLY DESCRIBE AND SUBSTANTIATE COMPLIANCE WITH THE SPECIFICATIONS SHALL BE SUBMITTED FOR ALL EQUIPMENT AND MATERIALS. PROVIDE FIVE (5) HARD COPIES AND ONE ELECTRONIC COPY OF ALL REQUIRED SUBMITTALS. WITHIN 30 DAYS AFTER AWARD OF CONTRACT, THE CONTRACTOR SHALL SUBMIT A COMPLETE LIST OF EQUIPMENT TO BE FURNISHED, GIVING MANUFACTURER'S NAME AND CATALOG NUMBER FOR EACH ITEM. TRADE NAMES AND CATALOG NUMBERS SHALL BE INTERPRETED AS ESTABLISHING A STANDARD OF QUALITY AND SHALL NOT BE CONSTRUED AS LIMITING COMPETITION. UNLESS DEFINITELY STATED OTHERWISE, THE CONTRACTOR MAY USE ANY ARTICLE WHICH IN HIS JUDGMENT IS EQUAL TO THAT SPECIFIED AND IS ACCEPTED BY THE ENGINEER. IF ANY ITEM PROPOSED NECESSITATES CHANGES IN ANY OTHER SYSTEM FROM THAT SHOWN ON THE DRAWINGS, THE CONTRACTOR IS RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY ADDITIONAL COSTS INVOLVED. WHERE SUCH CHANGES ARE REQUIRED, DETAIL DRAWINGS INDICATING THE REQUIRED CHANGES SHALL BE SUBMITTED FOR REVIEW AT THE SAME TIME THE MANUFACTURER'S DRAWINGS ARE SUBMITTED. SHOP DRAWINGS ARE REQUIRED FOR THE FOLLOWING: FIRE ALARM SURFACE METAL RACEWAYS AND BOXES FIRE STOPPING/SYSTEM/DETAILS 9. FINISHES: THE CONTRACTOR SHALL REPAIR ANY DAMAGE TO EXISTING SURFACE (FLOORS, WALL, CEILING, ETC.) RELATED TO NEW WORK. ALL NEW SURFACES TO MATCH EXISTING MATERIALS AND COLORS, AND BE FREE OF ALL BUILD-UPS, DRIP, ETC. TO PROVIDE A SMOOTH PROFESSIONAL APPEARANCE. ALL EXPOSED METAL RACEWAYS SHALL BE PAINTED TO MATCH EXISTING SURFACES. 10. COORDINATION OF WORK: UNLESS STATED OTHERWISE, CONTRACTOR SHALL DO ALL CUTTING NECESSARY FOR THE INSTALLATION OF HIS WORK. CUTTING WHICH WILL IN ANY WAY AFFECT A STRUCTURE SHALL NOT BE PERFORMED WITHOUT PERMISSION OF THE ENGINEER. THE CONTRACTOR IS RESPONSIBLE FOR PATCHING WHERE HE DOES CUTTING. PATCHING SHALL BE DONE TO THE SATISFACTION OF THE VT PM. THE CONTRACTOR IS RESPONSIBLE FOR DAMAGE TO OTHER WORK CAUSED BY HIS WORK OR WORKMEN. 11. EQUIPMENT INSTALLATION: EQUIPMENT SHALL BE INSTALLED IN ACCORDANCE WITH MANUFACTURERS INSTRUCTIONS TO CONFORM WITH THE DETAILS AND APPLICATION INDICATED. PROVIDE NECESSARY SUPPORTS FOR ALL EQUIPMENT AND APPURTENANCES AS REQUIRED; THIS INCLUDES BUT IS NOT LIMITED TO FRAMES OR SUPPORTS FOR ITEMS SUCH AS SAFETY SWITCHES AND OTHER SIMILAR ITEMS REQUIRING SUPPORTS. 12. RECORD DRAWING: ON COMPLETION OF THE PROJECT, THE CONTRACTOR SHALL PROVIDE THE A/E WITH ONE SET OF MARKED UP (RED LINE) "AS BUILT" D UP (RED LINE) "AS BUILT" UP (RED LINE) "AS BUILT" DRAWINGS. THE A/E WILL UPDATE/CREATE RECORD DOCUMENTS TO BE PROVIDED TO VT FACILITIES RECORD SERVICES. 13. CATALOG DATA FOR OWNER: THE CONTRACTOR SHALL PROVIDE ONE BOUND COPY OF COMPILATION OF CATALOG DATA OF EACH MANUFACTURED ITEM OF EQUIPMENT USED IN THE ELECTRICAL WORK AND SHALL PRESENT THIS COMPILATION TO THE ENGINEER FOR TRANSMITTAL TO THE OWNER BEFORE FINAL PAYMENT IS MADE. THREE COPIES OF OPERATING AND MAINTENANCE INSTRUCTIONS FOR EACH ITEM OF EQUIPMENT BOUND INDIVIDUALLY SHALL BE PROVIDED. A COMPLETE INDEX SHALL BE PROVIDED LISTING THE PRODUCTS ALPHABETICALLY BY NAME. 14. INSTRUCTION OF OWNER'S REPRESENTATIVE: THE ELECTRICAL CONTRACTOR SHALL INSTRUCT THE REPRESENTATIVE OF THE OWNER IN THE PROPER OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE OF ALL ELEMENTS OF THE FIRE ALARM SYSTEM. COMPETENT REPRESENTATIVES OF THE CONTRACTOR SHALL SPEND TIME AS NECESSARY TO FULLY PREPARE THE OWNER TO OPERATE AND MAINTAIN THE FIRE ALARM SYSTEM. 15. GUARANTEE: THE CONTRACTOR SHALL GUARANTEE ALL EQUIPMENT AND MATERIAL FURNISHED UNDER HIS SCOPE OF WORK FOR A PERIOD OF ONE (1) YEAR AFTER DATE OF FINAL ACCEPTANCE. EQUIPMENT MANUFACTURER'S WARRANTIES SHALL BE PASSED TO THE OWNER. SHOULD ANY DEFECTS APPEAR WITHIN THIS PERIOD, THE CONTRACTOR SHALL REPAIR OR REPLACE SAID DEFECTS OR ANY DAMAGE TO BUILDING OR CONTENTS CAUSED BY DEFECTIVE WORKMANSHIP OR EQUIPMENT, AND SHALL MAKE REQUIRED ADJUSTMENTS AT NO COST TO THE OWNER. 16. INSPECTION REPORTS: EACH ITEM OF DISCREPANCIES NOTED ON FINAL INSPECTION REPORTS PREPARED BY THE ENGINEER SHALL BE ANSWERED IN DETAIL IN WRITING BY THE CONTRACTOR BEFORE FINAL ACCEPTANCE OF THE SYSTEMS CAN BE RECOMMENDED. 17. SUPPORTS AND HANGERS: THE CONTRACTOR SHALL PROVIDE ALL SUPPORTS AND HANGER MATERIALS REQUIRED TO SUPPORT CONDUIT; BOXES; FIXTURES AND EQUIPMENT REQUIRED FOR THIS PROJECT. HANGER/SUPPORT SPACING SHALL BE AS REQUIRED IN THE NEC. MATERIALS USED SHALL BE NEW AND APPROVED FOR THE PURPOSE. EXPOSED SUPPORTS/HANGERS SHALL BE PAINTED TO MATCH ADJACENT EXISTING SURFACES. 18. WIRE: PROVIDE WIRE AND CABLES SUITABLE FOR THE LOCATION WHERE INSTALLED. FIRE ALARM CABLES SHALL BE PLENUM RATED INSTALLED IN EMT CONDUIT OR SURFACE RACEWAYS. 19. CONDUIT: CONDUIT SHALL BE CONCEALED IN FINISHED AREAS. CONDUITS SHALL BE SECURELY FASTENED. A MAXIMUM OF FOUR 90-DEGREE BONDS BETWEEN ANY TWO BOXES, FIXTURES OR PANELS SHALL BE PERMITTED FOR EACH CONDUIT RUN. CONDUIT SHALL BE SIZED IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE ALLOWABLE FILL PERMITTED BY THE NEC. WHERE CONDUIT CAN NOT BE CONCEALED IN A WALL OR ABOVE THE CEILING SURFACE METALLIC RACEWAYS MAYBE USED. MINIMUM SIZE FOR SURFACE RACEWAY SHALL BE WIREMOLD WM700. RACEWAYS MUST BE RUN VERTICAL AND PLUMB WITH SUPPORTS AT 24" MAXIMUM SPACING. SURFACE METAL RACEWAYS SHALL BE RUN EXPOSED JUST BELOW THE CEILING. CONDUIT SHALL BE ELECTRICAL METALLIC TUBING (EMT) WITH STEEL FITTINGS LISTED FOR THE PURPOSE. DIE CAST CONDUIT FITTING SHALL NOT BE USED ON THIS PROJECT. EXPOSED CONDUITS AND SURFACE RACEWAYS SHALL BE PAINTED TO MATCH ADJACENT EXISTING SURFACES. HOLES THROUGH RATED SLABS AND WALLS SHALL BE FIRE STOPPED HILTI FS-ONE OR APPROVED EQUAL. 20. BOXES AND COVERS: BOXES SHALL BE FURNISHED AND INSTALLED AS NEEDED. PULL BOXES SHALL BE FURNISHED AND INSTALLED AS REQUIRED, WHETHER OR NOT SPECIFICALLY CALLED OUT ON PLANS. BOXES SHALL BE STEEL CITY OR EQUAL. ALL BOXES AND COVER PLATES SHALL BE PAINTED RED. 21. SPLICES: SPLICES SHALL NOT BE MADE IN THE FIRE ALARM CABLES. 22. FIRE ALARM: PROVIDE A FULLY OPERATIONAL ADDRESSABLE AUTOMATIC FIRE ALARM SYSTEM IN ACCORDANCE WITH NFPA 72. THE SYSTEM SHALL BE TESTED AND PLACED IN SERVICE BY FACTORY TRAINED NICET CERTIFIED TECHNICIANS. PROVIDE DEVICES AS SHOWN ON DRAWINGS. SYSTEM AND DEVICES SHALL BE FROM A SINGLE MANUFACTURER. THE FIRE ALARM PANEL SHALL BE HONEYWELL FIRE-LITE MS-9200UDLS OR SILENT KNIGHT INTELLIKNIGHT 5820XL OR ENGINEER APPROVED EQUAL.
