How long a period?

• There are several kinds of time periods – Indeterminate times

• At that time• For a time• Everlasting / for ever• End of time / days

– Determinate times• Time(s)• Days

– Symbolic time• A day for a year (verses 11 & 12)• Time is a year (verse 7)

But we can’t look at all

these tonight

Page 6: Daniel The Time Periods Of Chater 12 (Oct 29, 2008)

Symbolically, a day for a year

Numbers 14:34

34 After the number of the days in which ye searched the land, eveneven forty days, each day for forty days, each day for a yeara year, shall ye bear your iniquities, even forty years, and ye shall know my breach of promise.

Ezekiel 4:6

6 And when thou hast accomplished them, lie again on thy right side, and thou shalt bear the iniquity of the house of Judah forty days: I have I have appointed thee each day for a yearappointed thee each day for a year.

Symbolically, Time & Times

• It is difficult to be precise about “Times”– There is a apparent lack of consistency, but

there is a degree of collaborative examples

• A “Time” by Jewish tradition is a year– But how long is a year? – 365 ¼ days?

• No, the Jewish calendar is governed by the moon • Jewish religious month is 30 days• Jewish religious or prophetic year is 360 days!

360! How Come? Why not 365/6 ?

Page 8: Daniel The Time Periods Of Chater 12 (Oct 29, 2008)

Biblical Numbers – the Prophetic Calendar

• A ‘prophetic’ year is 360 days, but why?– The prophets understood a year as 360 days

• the sun to mark the seasons and years• the moon to mark the days• there are 354.37 days in a lunar year (of 12 moons/months),

and 365.24 days in a solar year; together they average 360 days

– 365.24 (solar) + 354.37 (lunar) = 719.61 ÷ 2 = 359.8 days. (i.e., approx. 360 of prophetic year.)

TIME TIMES HALF-TIME ==> 3.5 years

360 720 180 = 1260

Or, + 30 days = 390 (if we here add the leap month)

Or, + 30 days = 750 (if we here add the leap month)

Or, + 30 days = 210 (if we here add the leap month)

= 1290 (or 1260 +30 days)

Therefore, 1290 days (v11) is simply 1260 days with an intercalary month added.

An intercalary month (i.e., a leap month of 30 days) is added for the same reason that leap days are added to our solar calendar---to keep up to the exact solar orbit of 365.2422 days in a (solar) year.

A Significant Time Period

• Same period reoccurs– 3½ years = 42 months = 1260/90 days– 1290 days appears Daniel 12:11– 1260 & 3½ Times associated in Rev 12:6 & 146 And the woman fled into the wilderness, where she hath a

place prepared of God, that they should feed her there a thousand two hundred and threescore days. (=1260 days)

14 And to the woman were given two wings of a great eagle, that she might fly into the wilderness, into her place, where she is nourished for a time, and times, and half a time, from the face of the serpent. (=3½ years = 1260 days)

A Significant Time Period

• Same period reoccurs– 3½ years = 42 months = 1260/90 days– 1290 days appears Daniel 12:11– 1260 & 3½ Times associated in Rev 12:6 & 14

• 30 day Month is also used else where– Concerning the Ark in Genesis 8:3&4– 5 months, about 147 days, but v3 states 150

days i.e.5 x 30 days3 And the waters returned from off the earth continually: and after

the end of the hundred and fifty days the waters were abated.

4 And the ark rested in the seventh month, on the seventeenth day

of the month, upon the mountains of Ararat. ( i.e. 5 months, about

147 days, but 150 days stated in v3 = 5 x 30 days)

Other Examples of 3½ Weeks

• Expressions of "3-½ years" are all variations of the original phrase found in Daniel

• That 3-½ year period is expressed in at least 5 different ways in Book of Revelation is clear proof of it's prophetic importance.

Expression used

for "3-½ years"

Book of Rev. Context

What in general,

 might  this imply?

42 months11:2 and

11:11

Holy City trampled and

saints conquered

Defeat for 42 x 2 months

= 7 years

1260 days11:3 and

12:6

Saints overcome,

and are preserved

Victory for 1260 x 2 days

= 7 years

"Time, times, and

half a time"

12:14

Preservation. But there are

two references in Daniel, both

negative

Preservation for 3.5 years.

But twice negative in Daniel

= 7 years of tribulation too

Three-and-one-half DAYS

11:9 and 11:11

Death and Resurrection

A day is as a year; Daniel's

70th"week" divided as in Dan. 9:27.

Hence, 7 days and/or years

What of 1260,1290 and 1335 Days?

• 1335 days (v12) doesn’t fit well being:– 45 days 1½ months longer that 1290 days– 75 days 2½ months longer that 1260 days– Nether 45 or 75 on their own seem significant

• 1335 is associated with “the end”– But the end of what?

• More than one interpretation put on this and other periods in Daniel 12– It depends on where you start

An Alternative View Starting from 1878–1871 BC

• The vision of the 1335 came to Daniel in April of 536 BC, which was1335 years to the very month from the end of Joseph's 7-year famine, (10:1, 4; 12:12). {Just one month after this vision came to Daniel, the rebuilding of Solomon’s temple began (Ezra 3:8), which was 430 years to the very month after Solomon himself had first begun to build the original temple! (May 966 BC to May 536 BC; 1Kg. 6:1, cf. Exodus 12:41.)}

• Babylon fell exactly 2½ years (also to the very month) prior to this vision of Daniel. (Autumn of 539 to spr. 536 BC, and plus one month more to the temple rebuilding in May). {This "2½ years" repeats the timeframe of the Jerusalem siege that also lasted 2½ years, with yet another month till the fall of the temple! Thus, God reverses the harm Babylon inflicted upon Jerusalem, here illustrated in the recurrence of same time sequences. The decree to return home to Judah occurred in 538 BC,{22}[2Chr. 36:20-23; Ezra 1:1].}

•  And so ended the "70 years" of captivity as prophesied by Jeremiah the prophet, (i.e., 606 to 536 BC).

Conclusion

• There is no conclusion: no conclusive solution to this numeric puzzle

• There are many sequences which seem to fit or could fit the sequence from BC 1878 to 1973

• We could probably find others which might fit our present day

• “Blessed is he that waiteth, and cometh to the thousand three hundred and five and thirty days.”
