Daniel Lewis
Athlete Biography
Daniel Lewis is set to make his Olympic debut after winning the bronze medal at the AIBA
Asian/Oceania Olympic qualifying tournament in China, in in a unanimous point’s decision, in April.
The Sydney-sider made Australian boxing history when he won the Commonwealth Youth Games in
2011, but Lewis’ Olympic dreams were cut short as he broke his jaw in the Australian boxing team
trials for the London 2012 Games.
Despite the setback, Lewis claimed his 䇶rst open National title in 2013 at just 19 and went on to
claim back-to-back titles in 2014, before moving up from the 69kg weight division to the 75kg.
The 22-year-old from Londonderry was denied the chance of a Commonwealth Games medal in
2014 after he was ruled out of competition with a cut above his eye while in great form. His 䇶nal
placing was sixth.
A determined Lewis bounced back with a stellar 2015, being crowned Australian and Oceania
Champion as well as claiming gold at the 2015 Doha International Tournament and was named
athlete of the tournament. Outside of the ring, Lewis works with his father in a quarry, operating
heavy machinery.

Personal Motto There are so many quotes and sayings that I love. I have a quote book and love to
nd new and exciting quotes, ones that I admire and want to live like. At the moment, my favourite
is, "DREAM LIKE YOU'LL LIVE FOREVER, LIVE LIKE YOU'LL DIE TOMORROW". Another motto I want
to follow is to NEVER REGRET! I don't want to look back on life knowing that there is something I
didn't achieve because I couldn't be bothered or was lazy.

Athlete Biography
Jason Whateley from Sale in Victoria is set to make his Olympic debut after securing a bronze
medal and Rio quali䘀쐂cation at the 2016 Asia/Oceania Olympic Quali䘀쐂cation Tournament in China in
early April.
The 25-year-old starting boxing through his local football club, after being asked to participate in
an amateur competition. Having only trained for six weeks, Whateley won the bout by knocking out
his opponent, and his addiction to the sport began.
The 196cm ‘man-mountain’ won back-to-back National 91kg heavyweight titles in 2015 and 2016,
after previously receiving four silver medals at previous Australian championships.
After narrowly missing his chance for the London 2012 Games, with a silver at the Australian
qualifying event, Whateley represented Australia at both the 2013 and 2015 world boxing
championships in Almaty, Kazakhstan and in Doha, Qatar.
Outside of the ring, Whateley is a quali䘀쐂ed personal trainer, runs his own gym ‘Pure Boxing’ where
he works alongside elite swimmers and members of the AFL club Hawthorn.
