What does any one need to go or toon-line?1. A computer &2. Internet connection
What does any one need to post on-line?
1. A computer &
2. Internet Connection
How many people are on-line ?
So
It is very easy to get on-line It is very fast And millions of people use it every
day….. including YOUR children.
Teens on-line statistics Your kids live in a different age than when we grew
up… Fast pace, digital world
TELEVISION VS. DIGITAL MEDIA USE: HOURS/DAY
How smart do you think kids are on internet? Often our kids know more about
technology than there parents. Exp: How many of you had to ask your
kids’ help to work with your brand new phone?
What do you like to do on-line?I asked my students: Who has gone on-line? What do you like doing the most when
you are on the internet?
Most teens says the following:1. Chat2. Download Music/ Movies3. Look at the pages of others 4. YouTube
Doing research for school is something they do but because the sort of have to.
So your children are not alone
Let’s look at the word
1 Peter 2:9
But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light;
Matthew 7:20-25 20 Therefore by their fruits you will know them.
I Never Knew You21 “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven.
Dangers of using the Internet
Don’t fall into sin
Cyberbullying
Cyberbullying includes sending hateful messages or even death threats to children, spreading lies about them online, making nasty comments on their social networking profiles, or creating a website to bash their looks or reputation.
What can parents do?
Tell your children they do not have to accept any online activity that is meant to intimidate, threaten, tease or harm them or anyone else. Giving bullies attention is exactly what they want, so ignore them as much as possible.
Your children should never open, read or respond to messages from a cyberbully. Do not erase or delete messages from cyberbullies. Your children do not have to read the
messages they receive from bullies, but they (or you) do need to keep messages as evidence. To report cyberbullying, it is really important to save as much info as you can. The more you save, the easier it will be to track down the people that are bothering your child. (Save the email, email address, date and time received, copies of all relevant emails, screenshots, etc.).
Use software to block bullies if they encounter them through chat or IM and use privacy settings on social networking pages.
Encourage your children to talk to you if anybody says or does something online that makes them feel uncomfortable or threatened. Stay calm and keep open lines of communication with your children. Make sure you or your children tell their school if the bullying is school related or involves another student. If you or your children are threatened with harm, contact your local police.
Watch out for warnings signs, such as reluctance to use the computer, a change in your child's behavior and mood, or reluctance to go to school.
Tell your children to guard their contact information. Children should assume that people will use the information on their profile to cause them harm. Tell your children that they should not put anything online that they wouldn't want their worst enemy to find out about. Remind your children that the people they befriend online have open access to all of their posted content and information and they can forward or use any of that information against them.
Remind your children that those who bully want to make their victims feel as if there is something wrong with them, but victims should know that there is nothing wrong with them; it is the bullies who have the real problem.
Virus & Hijacking & Spam
Virus If you've never been the victim of a
computer virus, you may think that all of the uproar over these nasty little programs is making much ado out of nothing. You may even be thinking that computer security experts and anti-virus companies are using scare tactics to sell anti-virus software. After all, the bigger the problem, the more software people buy. Today, the anti-virus business is worth several billion dollars and it shows no sign of slowing down.
Spam Spam is flooding the Internet with many copies of the same message,
in an attempt to force the message on people who would not otherwise choose to receive it. Most spam is commercial advertising, often for dubious products, get-rich-quick schemes, or quasi-legal services. Spam costs the sender very little to send -- most of the costs are paid for by the recipient or the carriers rather than by the sender.
There are two main types of spam, and they have different effects on Internet users. Cancellable Usenet spam is a single message sent to 20 or more Usenet newsgroups. (Through long experience, Usenet users have found that any message posted to so many newsgroups is often not relevant to most or all of them.) Usenet spam is aimed at "lurkers", people who read newsgroups but rarely or never post and give their address away. Usenet spam robs users of the utility of the newsgroups by overwhelming them with a barrage of advertising or other irrelevant posts. Furthermore, Usenet spam subverts the ability of system administrators and owners to manage the topics they accept on their systems.
Email spam targets individual users with direct mail messages. Email spam lists are often created by scanning Usenet postings, stealing Internet mailing lists, or searching the Web for addresses. Email spams typically cost users money out-of-pocket to receive. Many people - anyone with measured phone service - read or receive their mail while the meter is running, so to speak. Spam costs them additional money. On top of that, it costs money for ISPs and online services to transmit spam, and these costs are transmitted directly to subscribers.
Hijacking
Hijacking is a type of network security attack in which the attacker takes control of a communication - just as an airplane hijacker takes control of a flight - between two entities and masquerades as one of them.
Identity Theft Identity theft is a crime used to refer to fraud
that involves someone pretending to be someone else in order to steal money or get other benefits. The term is relatively new and is actually a misnomer, since it is not inherently possible to steal an identity, only to use it.
The person whose identity is used can suffer various consequences when he or she is held responsible for the perpetrator's actions. In many countries specific laws make it a crime to use another person's identity for personal gain.
What can you do?
Install antivirus programs on your computer
Do not give out any passwords to anyone
Do not talk (write) to strangers "I considered church people easy to fool... they seem to want to believe in the good that exists in all people... And because of that, you can easily convince with or without convincing words."- Imprisoned Pedophile
Chatting in Chatrooms
What is a chat room?
a site on the internet where a number of users can communicate in real time (typically one dedicated to a particular topic)

Chatting with “Friends”
Chatting with Friends
Chatting with friends is fun and efficient if you need to share school information or if you live far from each other.
But there are some dangers you must think about: Statistics shows that teens spend hours
chatting Instead of homework, sports, reading etc.
Chatting Language Often teens use a language while
chatting that they would not use when in person.
Words are words and whether typed or said in person they are equally powerful.
Don’t use foul language Don’t use sexually oriented words People often type things they would not
say to each other when in person. This is what God says about words….
Proverbs 18:21Death and life are in the power of the tongue, And those who love it will eat its fruit.
Proverbs 15:4 A wholesome tongue is a tree of life, But perverseness in it breaks the spirit.
Proverbs 12:18 (New King James Version)There is one who speaks like the piercings of a sword, But the tongue of the wise promotes health

Glorify God in Body and Spirit
12 All things are lawful for me, but all things are not helpful. All things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any. 13 Foods for the stomach and the stomach for foods, but God will destroy both it and them. Now the body is not for sexual immorality but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body. 14 And God both raised up the Lord and will also raise us up by His power. 15 Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ? Shall I then take the members of Christ and make them members of a harlot? Certainly not! 16 Or do you not know that he who is joined to a harlot is one body with her? For “the two,” He says, “shall become one flesh.”[b] 17 But he who is joined to the Lord is one spirit with Him.18 Flee sexual immorality. Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body. 19 Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? 20 For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body[c] and in your spirit, which are God’s.

Teens often put indecent or provocative pictures of themselves which attracts the opposite sex.
Look at these commercials: Think before you post
Sexually oriented material & Pornography
One of the worst dangers of the Internet, for many parents, is the idea that pornography could pop up and surprise their children. But parents may not realize that some kids are going online to seek out web porn, too.
Don’t assume that you are immune. Today it is much easier than before to
reach sexually oriented material or to engage in sexual talk online.

Matthew 5:29
If your right eye causes you to sin, pluck it out and cast it from you; for it is more profitable for you that one of your members perish, than for your whole body to be cast into hell.
1 Corinthians 6:18
18 Flee sexual immorality. Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body.

Internet is an addition ! Internet becomes an addiction for a lot of
teens. Don’t spend hours chatting They ALWAYS tell you exactly what you
want to hear and often suggest you to lie to your parents
Many teens spends hours chatting or surfing or playing games instead of reading a book, doing sport, chores or homework.
Many adults become addicted to gambling, internet, porn and even shopping.

What can parents do?
Parent’s Role Parents play an important and responsible role
in ensuring a safe surfing environment for children.
Parents should be involved and take an interest in, the online activities of their children so that through discussions, parents can guide their children to become discerning surfers.
One way to do so is to surf the internet together with their children and in the process, explain to them the possible dangers of the internet.
Parents could also do the following to ensure that their children enjoy the benefits from the use of the internet:
Encourage children to approach their parents when they come across undesirable materials or when they are uncomfortable with the person they know through the IRC.
Encourage discussions of their children’s online activities.
Establish rules together with the children on using the internet and the consequences when these rules are broken.
Place the computer in a common area such as the living room so that parents can monitor their children’s online activities.
Decide together with their children on internet usage time.
Encourage their children to take up other ‘offline’ activities so that they do not get addicted to the internet.
What can you do as a parent? Plant good values in your children Computer MUST be in a public area Teach them Not to provide personal information Limit computer usage Prohibit chat room usage Random checks into their e-mail See who they chat with and do not allow
automated join to their chat world. Only allow people they know to be on their list
Educate them on good sites and permitable sites
Prohibit usage of webcams
A common sense approach to internet
What can we do as parents Start with where the computer is placed. Never
allow the computer to be placed where you as parent doesn’t have total view.
So the computer must be placed in a public, high traffic area of the house.
The parents must be able to log in (enter) into the computer and to all the children's login
Teach your children about these dangers. Often they themselves don’t realize the danger that they put themselves in or they think that it doesn’t apply to us here in Curacao.
