DANGERS IN HEBREW

S - 2

Hebrews 1:1-3 God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets, (2) has in these last days spoken to us by His Son,

whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the worlds; (3) who being the brightness of His glory and the express image of His person, and upholding all things by the

word of His power, when He had by Himself purged our sins, sat down at the

right hand of the Majesty on high,

DANGERS IN HEBREWS 2

A.Two weeks ago we looked at the following Dangers in Hebrews…1. Drifting?2. Departure?3. Deceit?4. Deficiency?5. Disobedience?6. Discouragement?7. Defilement?8. Degradation?

DANGERS IN HEBREWS 2

B. This morning we are going to look at six more Dangers in Hebrews…1. Desensitization2. Deafness3. Delay4. Despising5. Drawing back6. Denying

I. DANGER OF DESENSITIZATION

Hebrews 3:12-15 Beware, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief in departing from the living God; (13) but exhort one another daily, while it is called "Today," lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin. (14) For we have become partakers of Christ if we hold the beginning of our confidence steadfast to the end, (15) while it is said: "Today, if you will hear His voice, Do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion."

II. DANGER OF DEAFNESS

Hebrews 5:8-11 though He was a Son, yet He learned obedience by the things which He suffered. (9) And having been perfected, He became the author of eternal salvation to all who obey Him, (10) called by God as High Priest "according to the order of Melchizedek," (11) of whom we have much to say, and hard to explain, since you have become dull of hearing.

III. DANGER OF DELAY

Hebrews 6:11-12, "And we desire that each one of you show the same diligence to the full assurance of hope until the end, that you do not become sluggish, but imitate those who through faith and patience inherit the promises."

IV. DANGER OF DESPISING

Hebrews 10:28-31 Anyone who has rejected Moses' law dies without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses. (29) Of how much worse punishment, do you suppose, will he be thought worthy who has trampled the Son of God underfoot, counted the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified a common thing, and insulted the Spirit of grace? (30) For we know Him who said, "Vengeance is Mine, I will repay," says the Lord. And again, "The LORD will judge His people." (31) It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.

V. DANGER OF DRAWING BACK

Hebrews 10:35-39 Therefore do not cast away your confidence, which has great reward. (36) For you have need of endurance, so that after you have done the will of God, you may receive the promise: (37) "For yet a little while, And He who is coming will come and will not tarry. (38) Now the just shall live by faith; But if anyone draws back, My soul has no pleasure in him." (39) But we are not of those who draw back to perdition, but of those who believe to the saving of the soul.

VI. DANGER OF DENYINGHeb 12:25-29 See that you do not refuse Him who speaks. For if they did not escape who refused Him who spoke on earth, much more shall we not escape if we turn away from Him who speaks from heaven, {26} whose voice then shook the earth; but now He has promised, saying, “Yet once more I shake not only the earth, but also heaven.” {27} Now this, “Yet once more,” indicates the removal of those things that are being shaken, as of things that are made, that the things which cannot be shaken may remain. {28} Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom which cannot be shaken, let us have grace, by which we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear. {29} For our God is a consuming fire.

WHAT ABOUT YOU?

A. The writer sums up all the warnings in Hebrews 6:4-6 For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted the heavenly gift, and have become partakers of the Holy Spirit, (5) and have tasted the good word of God and the powers of the age to come, (6) if they fall away, to renew them again to repentance, since they crucify again for themselves the Son of God, and put Him to an open shame.

WHAT ABOUT YOU?

B.Have you been enlightened?C.Have you tasted the heavenly gift?D.Have you been a partaker of the Holy

Spirit?E. Have you tasted the good word of God?F. Have you tasted the powers of the age to

come?

WHAT ABOUT YOU?G. If you have done all of the above and fall

away from them it will be impossible to bring you to repentance.1.What else could you be taught that would

cause you to repent?2.This is not referring to those who have

fallen short of the grace of God. We all have done that. Rom. 3:23

3.This is referring to those who have been so hardened by sin that they are beyond feeling and cannot be touched with the gospel any longer.

4.If you still feel guilt for your sin, you are not to that point yet.

Don’t fall away from Christ and crucify Christ

again and put Him to an open

shame?
