Overcoming barriers
Design | Damaris Ologeanu (student), Andrei Radu (architect)
Status | Competition Entry
Location | Berlin
Year | February 2015
Task | The project represents a theater concept located in Berlin on the Spree river. The theater is not a classical theater because of the interactive installations that may be used by everybody. The actors are inconspicuous and show viewers how to deal with the installation. After that the viewers become unknowingly actors for other visitors. Thus, the role of the actor is passed again and again. The theme of the interactive installation is “the barrier”. The reason for this is also the place Berlin, a city where the border was not only a concept but a real limit perception in the form of the Berlin Wall. With the help of the installation , which develops into a play, we try to determine what is a limit, how many types of border there are, how we can overcome some limits or already did and how to learn to respect borders or live with them.

OISTAT: the 9th theater competition
The physical boundary
Various situations are shown where man can not go, where they miss an arm or a leg where he/she can not fly, float or breathe underwater. Man will experience these limits before a canvas where their projection is mirrored in one of these situa-tions listed above.
The ethnic border.
One problem that still leads today to diffi-culties in interpersonal relationships. Even if we look apparently different, we are all equal. This is shown on the same screen by a projection where people, regardless of skin color, nationality, culture , religion, etc. are reflected similar as Minions figures.
The language border
With the help of technology (eg . Voice recognition system for many languages ), we have now almost completely overcome this barrier. In this case, a light wall which responds to languages. It stays white, but changes color when someone comes and speaks to the wall. Here, each language has its own color corespondent.
The physical border
After the audience have gone off the borders they reach the middle and the last barrier, a small area with a big impact. Here they can see the shape of Berlin, realized by a fog wall.
The water border
A curtain of water: The water drips like rain from above but if the man has the courage to approach, the rain will stop in that particular place. Motion sensors stop the water in the places where people are. The water border symbolizes the Berlin Wall.
The borders will disappear one by one. The screens are pulled up, the lights are turned off, the fog disappears, the water stops flowing. In the end all the borders disappear and the building and its spatiality become noticeable. The last surprise appears on the walls of the building. Text stripes with personal testimonies of the previous visitors will be shown in writing. In other words, every man who wants to share their success in overcoming a personal boundary can write this on a computer, which is placed somewhere in the room and this will be later projected on the walls.

Location | Husum, Germany
Area | 5800 m²
Year | July 2014
Task | The Task is to create a concept for the exhibition “Kultur 21 Festival” in Husum, Germany. The inspiration for the concept comes from the tradionally Romanian dances, where people creat several circles and, holding each other arms, dance together. This is reflected in the round shapes, circles and semi-circles which intersect touch, and com-plement. Through the interplay of the forms the space gains a lightness that makes it look playful and movable.

The 141 Theater (name given by the number of stairs) is a moving theater, which means that the audience will not be sited for the whole play, but move from room to room, from floor to floor in order to know the whole story and experience different feelings along the play.
