(For each major recommendation details are given as under separate number)
1 Necessary Retaining wall should be constructed resting on hard rock on the upstream of Perungal sluice at the left side and back filled with suitable material to prevent further sliding of rock boulders and to facilitate proper approach to the Sluice operating operation
2. Similarly the rock cut slope at the right side shall be protected by rock bolting shotcreting to sliding of rock boulders.
3. The cracks in the walls of river sluices portion shall be sealed.
4.Abnormal seepage found in shaft no. 33 and 35 of masonry dam near river sluice vents 2 and 4 by grouting the body wall of the dam besides upstream face treatment.
5. Grouting shall be carried out to control the dampness in masonry dam in block 6 and 7.
5. For installation, maintenance and taking measurement in the “V” notches the guidelines annexed with this report should be followed.
6. Leached deposits on the floor and gutter of the gallery should be cleaned .
7 Instrumentation are to be provided.
8. Chocked porus drains should be reamed.
9.The blockages in the chutes should be reamed and damaged chutes should reconstructed.
10. .Damage parapet wall should be reconstructed.
11. Disturbed rip rap in upstream slope of earth dam is to be removed and repacked.
12. Bitumin access road is to be improved in the left out portions.
13. Worn out rubber seal of outlet gates to be renewed.
14.Communication facilities should be reviewed.
15. Emergency action plan should be reviewed .

Health status report
Health Status Report of Tamilnadu WRD Dams for the Monsoon – I Period (10th June 2012 to 15th August 2012) Madurai Region
GENERAL
1. Health status report is prepared based on the deficiencies pointed out by the inspecting officer in the monsoon report. The deficiencies are noted in descending order priority wise. They may be attended and rectified accordingly.
2. Field officers were requested to report the action taken on the review remarks communicated to them on the previous monsoon reports and enclose the same while sending the subsequent report. The instructions given were carried out in respect of few dams only. So the action taken report for the previous monsoon reports must be enclosed by the field officers in future while sending the subsequent monsoon reports.
3. As per the ICOLD,
The height of dam = Top of dam – Deepest foundation level.
Accordingly find out the deepest foundation level of the masonry dam from the as built drawings and the height of the dam has to be reckoned from the deepest foundation level. 4. All the as built drawings of the components of the dam have to be kept ready for inspection and also for references. I. Dams with Major Deficiency 1) Manimuthar Dam in Tirunelveli District.:
1. Actions shall be taken to arrest the abnormal seepage reported in shaft no.33 and 35 of masonry dam near river sluice vents 2 & 4 by grouting the body wall of the dam besides upstream face treatment. 2. Grouting shall be carried out to control the dampness in masonry dam in block no.6 & 7 (LS 5879 ft to 6059 ft.) 3. Disturbed rip rap in upstream slope of the earth dam is to be removed and repacked. 4. Bitumen access road is to be improved in the left out portions. 5. Worn out rubber seal of river sluice shutter is to be renewed. 6. Instrumentations are to be provided. 7. Collapsed chutes should be reconstructed. 8. ‘V’ Notches are to be repaired and measurements should be taken regularly. 9. Exact deficiency in the earth dam slope should be reported in the relevant column of the bund. 10. Communication facilities should be improved. 11. Worn out rubber seal of outlet gate is to be renewed. 12. Emergency action plan should be reviewed every year. 13. Weather station instruments are to be repaired and should be brought to working condition.

The Report of Design Flood Review is enclosed as Appendix -IIIA
1. In the perungal sluice channel at the collapsed slope, a concrete toe wall of 2m height with nominal reinforcement may be provided and the portion above the toe wall should be dressed to a proper slope with a adequate provisions for surface drainage. The slope may be protected with rip rap and drainage holes at 3m interval (staggered) be drilled. A perforated pipe may be placed within the drilled holes to drain out underground water.
2. Damaged chutes to be repaired.
3. Damaged parapet wall is to be restored.
4. Reaming the porous drain near the gallery
5. The upstream face to be cleaned and the joints should be racked and pointing to be done in cement mortar by mixing synthetic sealant.
