A unique opportunity to propose a hybrid space which acts as a transition from performance to gallery to occur. You will be examining these types of work and asked to research and be aware of types of contemporary work. This Space seeks to accommodate, adapt, be flexible, and allow for experimental art, architecture, cinema, fashion, installations, and performance to occur. An adjustable framework that allows the architec- ture to be flexible and accommodating to the user who is performing or installing their work. An opportunity arises to create a highly func- tional proposal in which examines a series of intense site conditions and design parameters. You will be examining how people transition to and from the DART line and also around the site such as Interstate 45, and pedestrians around the site. How you create a structural system which is able to span a large gallery/performance space? How the build- ing itself or the buildings facade can create a canopy for the platform of the DART line? Also how you will respond to contextual and site conditions in the design process? The structure will need to be multi level design with a minimum of 2 floors and maximum of 3 floors. That provides the appropriate life safety standards and ADA accessibility. Your proposals will seek to expand on the previous concepts, ideas, and structural systems from project one. This will provide a greater under- standing of how to implement the concept into a complex site, and learn from details which may or may not of been fully resolved from the first project. Using the same or a similar structural system will allow you to add greater detail and fully resolve all major connections, primary system, and secondary system.

DALLAS | PERFORMATIVE GALLERY STATEMENT PROJECT TWO

ARCH 3501 : Architecture Design Studio 4 _ Fall 2011

BRIEF |

Located on the edge of the Dallas skyline and adjacent to the performing arts district and recent constructions from OMA + Rex (Wyly Theater), Foster + Partners (Winspear Opera House), Allied Works, and IM Pei, lies an open site with proximity and access to the DART line of Dallas, downtown, art district and the performaing art district. This will be the location of the studio proposal for a creative Performative/Con-temporary Gallery. A hybrid space which is dedicated to contemporary creativity arts and architecture. A place where performance art, ar-chitectural installation, fashion and cinema can meet.

What |

The second project we will investigate in this studio is a Performative /Gallery space located on the edge of the Dallas skyline. The location of the project provides a unique opportunity to accommodate a stop on the heavily populated DART line. This will provide users with instant access to not only the proposed gallery space but also to the neigh-boring performing arts district. The site is an urban condition in a rapidly evolving area of Dallas, with the construction of 4 performance driven constructions and a new museum by Morphosis not far away. A unique opportunity to propose a hybrid space which acts as a transition from performance to gallery to occur. This proposal acts as a filter for users to be exposed to more experimental performances and exhibits before transitioning into the heart of downtowns existing performance halls, galleries and museums. You will be examining these types of work and asked to research and be aware of types of contemporary work.

This Space seeks to accommodate, adapt, be flexible, and allow for experimental art, architecture, cinema, fashion, installations, and performance to occur. An adjustable framework that allows the architec-ture to be flexible and accommodating to the user who is performing or installing their work. An opportunity arises to create a highly func-tional proposal in which examines a series of intense site conditions and design parameters. You will be examining how people transition to and from the DART line and also around the site such as Interstate 45, and pedestrians around the site. How you create a structural system which is able to span a large gallery/performance space? How the build-ing itself or the buildings facade can create a canopy for the platform of the DART line? Also how you will respond to contextual and site conditions in the design process? The structure will need to be multi level design with a minimum of 2 floors and maximum of 3 floors. That provides the appropriate life safety standards and ADA accessibility.

Your proposals will seek to expand on the previous concepts, ideas, and structural systems from project one. This will provide a greater under-standing of how to implement the concept into a complex site, and learn from details which may or may not of been fully resolved from the first project. Using the same or a similar structural system will allow you to add greater detail and fully resolve all major connections, primary system, and secondary system.

The space will need to plan for adaptability of various sizes of work that are constructed as installations (objects), paintings, video projection, dance, music, etc. The space needs to be accessible, and consider being an extension into the landscape and surrounding context. The small gallery can accommodate small works and digital media driven works.
