National Development Plan challenges:

• Too few people work

• The standard of education for most black learners is of poor

quality

• The infrastructure is poorly located, under-maintained and

insufficient to foster higher growth

• Spatial patterns exclude the poor from the fruits of development

• The economy is overly and unsustainably resource intensive

• A widespread disease burden is compounded by a failing public

health system

• Public services are uneven and often of poor quality

• Corruption is widespread

• South Africa remains a divided society

Scope & Current status

• Two schools have been identified for upgrading:

– Makgamathu High School in Ward 10, which is situated just off the

R37, approximately 110km from Polokwane.

– Mohlalamorudi High School in Ward 8, which is on the other side of

the R37 and behind Marula Mine.

– R12 million project (Funded jointly by Marula & Limpopo DoE)

• Two local micro enterprises were contracted to refurbish the two schools.

• Work at both schools have been completed within Budget.

• Training was done by the Concrete Institute and Certificates were handed out.

• Handover is being planned by stakeholder engagement (Johanna Tau)
