    DIRECTIONS Beginner

    SIZE Place mat: 13 x 171⁄2 inches Coaster: 41⁄2 inches square Napkin ring: 13⁄4 inches in diameter Daisy jug: 6 inches high

    MATERIALS • 3-ply sport weight yarn: 31⁄4 oz medium blue, 21⁄2 oz white, 11⁄4 oz light blue, 1⁄2 oz yellow • Crochet hooks sizes E/4 and G/6 or sizes needed to obtain gauge • Empty 8-qt powdered-soft- drink container (31⁄2 inches in diameter x 5 inches high x 2 1⁄4-inch top opening) • Glue • Tapestry needle

    GAUGE With hook size E, 1 square = 21⁄8 inches With hook size G, 11 sc = 2 inches; 7 sc rnds = 1 inch Check gauge to save time.

    PATTERN NOTES Weave in loose ends as work

    progresses. Sl st to join each rnd in top of beg st. Ch 3 counts as first dc throughout. 3-tr cl: *Yo hook twice, insert hook

    in indicated st, yo, draw up a lp, [yo, draw through 2 lps on hook] twice, rep from * twice, yo, draw through all 4 lps on hook.

    Beg 3-tr cl: Ch 3 (counts as first tr), *yo hook twice, insert hook in indicated st, yo, draw up a lp, [yo, draw through 2 lps on hook] twice, rep from * once, yo, draw through all 3 lps on hook.

    PLACE MAT

    SOLID SQUARES (make 12 medium blue and 6 white)

    Rnd 1 (RS): With crochet hook size E, ch 4, sl st to join to form a ring, ch 3, 2 dc in ring, ch 3, [3 dc in ring, ch 3] 3 times, join in top of beg ch-3. (12 dc; 4 ch-3 sps)

    Rnd 2: Sl st into ch-3 sp, ch 3, [2 dc, ch 3, 3 dc] in same ch-3 sp, ch 1, [{3 dc, ch 3, 3 dc} in next ch-3 sp, ch 1] rep around, join in top of beg ch-3.

    Rnd 3: Sl st into next ch-3 sp, ch 3, [2 dc, ch 3, 3 dc] in same ch-3 sp, *ch 1, 3 dc in next ch-1 sp, ch 1 **, [3 dc, ch 3, 3 dc] in next ch-3 sp, rep from * around, ending last rep at **, join in top of beg ch-3, fasten off.

    DAISY SQUARE (make 17) Rnd 1 (RS): With crochet hook

    size E and yellow, ch 3, work 7 hdc in 3rd ch from hook, join in top of beg ch-3, fasten off. (8 hdc)

    Rnd 2: Attach white in any hdc, beg 3-tr cl in same st, ch 4, [3-tr cl in next hdc, ch 4] rep around, join in top of beg cl, fasten off. (8 petals)

    Rnd 3: Attach light blue to any ch-4 sp between petals, ch 3, [2 dc, ch 3, 3 dc] in same ch-4 sp, *ch 1, 3 dc in next ch-4 sp, ch 1 **, [3 dc, ch 3, 3 dc] in next ch-4 sp, rep from * around, ending last rep at **, join in top of beg ch-3, fasten off.

    ASSEMBLY Using diagram as a guide, with

    light blue, sew squares tog through back lps only.

    EDGING Rnd 1 (RS): With crochet hook

    size E, attach white in back lp of 3rd ch of any corner ch-3 sp, working in back lps for this rnd only, ch 1, sc in same st as beg ch-1, sc in each st around, working 4 sc across each joined square over ch sps of joining, and at each corner ch-3 sp work sc in first ch, 3 sc in next ch, sc in next ch, sl st to join in beg sc.

    Rnd 2: Ch 3, 2 dc in same st as joining, *[sk 2 sts, 3 dc in next st] rep across edge to center corner 3-sc sts, ch 1, sk next st, 3 dc in center corner sc, ch 1, sk next st, 3 dc in next st, rep from * around, ending with 3 dc in last center corner sc, ch 1, join in top of beg ch-3.

    Rnd 3: Sl st into next dc, ch 3, 4 dc in same st, *[sk next 2 dc, sc in next dc, sk next 2 dc, 5 dc in next dc] rep across to last 3-dc group before cor- ner, sk next dc, sc in next ch-1 sp, sk next dc, 7 dc in next dc, sk next dc, sc in next ch-1 sp, sk next dc **, 5 dc in next dc, rep from * around, ending

    COASTER Rnds 1–3: Rep Rnds 1–3 of

    Daisy Square. Rnd 4: Attach medium blue in any

    NAPkIN RING

    RING Rnd 1 (RS): With crochet hook

    size E and medium blue, ch 36, sl st to join to form a ring, ch 3, dc in each ch around, join in top of beg ch-3. (36 dc)

    Rnd 2 (RS): Ch 1, sc in same st as beg ch-1, *sk next 2 sts, 5 dc in next st, sk next 2 sts **, sc in next st, rep from * around, ending last rep at **, join in beg sc, fasten off. (6 scallops)

    Rnd 3 (RS): Attach medium blue in opposite side of foundation ch, rep Rnd 2.

    DAISY JUG

    BODY Note: Do not join rnds unless

    otherwise indicated throughout en- tire jug. Use a scrap of CC yarn to mark rnds.

    Rnd 1 (RS): With crochet hook size G and medium blue, ch 40, sl st to join to form a ring, ch 1, sc in each ch around. (40 sc)

    Rnd 2: 2 sc in next sc, sc in each of next 9 sc. (44 sc)

    Rnd 3: Sc around, inc 4 sc each rnd evenly sp around, varying posi- tion of inc to maintain round shape. (48 sc)

    Rnds 4–8: Rep Rnd 3. (68 sc) Rnds 9–36: Sc in each sc around. Rnd 37: [Sc dec over next 2 sc, sc

    in each of next 15 sc] 4 times. (64 sc) Rnd 38: Sc in each of next 7 sc, [sc

    dec over next 2 sc, sc in each of next 14 sc] 3 times, sc dec over next 2 sc, sc in each of next 7 sc, sl st in next st, fasten off. (60 sc)

    UPPER RIM Rnd 1: With crochet hook size G,

    attach medium blue in opposite side of foundation ch of Rnd 1 of body, ch 1, 2 sc in same ch as beg ch-1, sc in each of next 9 chs, [2 sc in next ch, sc in each of next 9 chs] 3 times. (44 sc)

    Rnds 2–4: Rep Rnd 3 of body. (56 sc)

    Rnd 5: Sl st in next st, ch 1, sc in same st, work reverse sc in each st around, join in beg sc, fasten off.

    BASE Rnd 1 (RS): With crochet hook

    size G and medium blue, ch 2, 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook. (6 sc)

    Rnd 2: Work 2 sc in each sc around. (12 sc)

    Rnd 3: Sc around, inc 6 sc evenly sp around, varying position of inc so that piece remains round. (18 sc)

    Rnds 4–10: Rep Rnd 3. (60 sc)

    At the end of Rnd 10, sl st in next st, leaving a length of yarn, fasten off.

    With Rnd 38 of body at bottom, slip body over container. Working through both thicknesses, sew Rnd 10 of base to Rnd 38 of body.

    HANDLE (make 2) Rnd 1: With crochet hook size G

    and medium blue, leaving a 10-inch length at beg, ch 10, sl st to join to form a ring, ch 1, sc in each ch around. (10 sc)

    Rnds 2–36: Sc in each sc around. At the end of Rnd 36, sl st in next st, leaving a length of yarn, fasten off.

    Using photo as a guide, flatten tube; curl end tightly for 3 or 4 rnds and stitch in place. Rep curl on oppo- site end in opposite direction. Sew ends of handle to side of jug.

    DAISY (make 2) Rnds 1 & 2: Rep Rnds 1 and 2 of

    daisy for Napkin Ring. Position daisies on front of jug

    and tack in place. Glue underside of petals to jug. ✄
