The showing of registered dairy cattle stimulates and sustains interest in the breeding of registered dairy cattle. It is also an important part of the promotion, merchandising and breeding program of many breeders. For these reasons, the Purebred Dairy Cattle Association (PDCA) believes that it is in the best interest of all breeders of registered dairy cattle to maintain a reputation of integrity in dairy cattle shows and to present a wholesome and progressive image of dairy cattle in the show ring.

PDCA endorses this Show Ring Code of Ethics for all dairy breed shows and pledges its full cooperative support for its enforcement to show management, show judges, and the national breed associations.

The application of this Code of Ethics provides for absolute responsibility for an animal’s condition by an owner, exhibitor, fitter or participant whether or not he or she was actually instrumental in or had actual knowledge of the treatment of the animal in contravention of this Code of Ethics. Dairy cattle exhibitors shall, at all times, deport themselves with honesty and good sportsmanship.

It is recognized that there are certain practices in the proper care and management of dairy cattle that are necessary in the course of moving dairy cattle to and between shows that are advisable to keep them in a sound, healthy state so they might be presented in the show ring in a natural, normal condition. At all times, exhibition livestock shall be treated in a humane manner and in accordance with dairy quality assurance practices so as to protect the health, safety and welfare of the livestock and the consuming public. No person shall present for exhibition or exhibit an animal which he or she knows, or has reason to suspect, is affected with or has been exposed to a dangerously contagious or infectious disease, or illegal or non-approved use of drugs, medication and/or prohibited substance, or residue.

The position of the Purebred Dairy Cattle Association is that all animals presented for exhibition shall be in their natural conformation and structure, free of any alteration or modification by injection or internal or external administration of any substance or by any involvement in unethical fitting.

Grooming and Preparation

Dairy cattle exhibitions are conducted under standards for evaluating conformation established by the PDCA Unified Score Card (1994), with specific breed characteristics taken into consideration by the show judge. In this connection, animals will be groomed and prepared for the judge’s evaluation in order to display the animal’s natural contour, conformation, performance and mobility. Specifically:

1. Changing the natural color of the animal is prohibited. However, external applications of cosmetics that affect only appearance may be used, including by way of example hoof polishes and false switches.

2. The maximum allowable length of naturally growing hair anywhere on the topline is not to exceed 1”. (See Holstein rules concerning hair length) Exhibitors will be required to comply with this rule before the animal is allowed to enter the ring.

3. Addition of foreign objects, including but not limited to hair or hair substitutes, cloth or fiber, to change the natural contour or appearance of the animal’s body is prohibited.

4. Externally sealing the teat end with a preparation that does not harm the animal’s skin is permissible. Natural teat placement will be given preference over artificially positioned teats.

Violations: False, Deceptive or Unacceptable Practices

These practices are violations of the Code of Ethics and will be reported to show management and may be reported to the respective national breed associations:

1. Misrepresenting the age and/or milking status of the animal for the class in which it is shown.

2. Treating the animal, particularly the udder, internally or externally:

a. with an irritant or counter-irritant,

b. using a device to artificially create or enhance the udder crease,

c. using other substances as detected by testing that causes changes in the udder to artificially improve the conformation.

d. plugging of teat canal with foreign substances.

3. Surgical or unethical insertion of any matter under the skin or into body cavities, performed to change the natural contour or appearance of the animal’s body (e.g., administration of fluid via a stomach tube or other similar apparatus to fill the rumen), though not to preclude practices required or involved in normal management.

4. Criticizing or interfering with the judge, show management or other exhibitors while in the show ring or other conduct detrimental to the breed or the show.

5. Challenging, threatening or interfering with an ethics committee appointed by show management to monitor the animals on exhibit on the show grounds.

Exhibitor Responsibility

The act of entering an animal in a livestock show is the giving of consent by the owner, exhibitor, fitter and/or absolutely responsible person (hereinafter referred to as “Exhibitor”) for show management to obtain any specimens of urine, saliva, blood, milk,

or other substances from the animal to be used in testing. Materials may also be collected by ultrasound and photographic methods and by direct examination of animal.

The act of entering an animal is the giving of consent by the owner, exhibitor, fitter and/or absolutely responsible person (the “Exhibitor”) to have disciplinary action for violation of this Show Ring Code of Ethics taken by show management, the state in which the show occurs, and/or the national dairy breed association without recourse.

Show Ethics Committee

Each show should have an Ethics Committee. The make-up of this committee should include official breed representatives, representative(s) of show management (e.g., dairy cattle show superintendent, General Manager), the official show veterinarian, and Extension representative.

The Ethics Committee will be responsible for monitoring violations of the Show Ring Code of Ethics. The Ethics Committee will investigate the report of any violation and determine the accuracy of the allegation. The Ethics Committee will have the authority to inspect animals and related material to determine if violations have occurred.

Violations: Reporting and Investigation

Complaints of alleged violations can be reported to the breed superintendent, the show superintendent, show management, and/or the Ethics Committee.

Before An Animal is Shown

If the Ethics Committee suspects that a violation of the Show Ring Code of Ethics will occur if the animal is shown, and that violation is reasonably well established before the animal is shown, the Ethics Committee will submit a report to show management.

Show management will discuss the violation with the Exhibitor:

1. If, at the Exhibitor’s discretion, the animal in question is not shown, no violation will have occurred.

2. If the Exhibitor wishes to challenge that a violation occurred, he/she/they will have opportunity to appeal to the Ethics Committee. If its decision is not changed, the Exhibitor will be denied opportunity to exhibit the animal in question.

During and After An Animal is Shown

All animals are subject to examination during judging. The judge and Ethics Committee are instructed to examine the top five (5) animals in each class closely for violations of the Show Ring Code of Ethics. When a violation may have occurred, a milkout may be called for. This call may be by breed association rule, or by request of an authorized representative of the national breed association, the judge, the Ethics Committee, or show management.

If an animal is exhibited and a violation of the Show Ring Code of Ethics is subsequently suspected, investigated, and determined to have occurred, the violation will be reported to the Ethics Committee and show management for action. The Exhibitor will be notified of the violation and the supporting evidence and invited to defend or explain the allegations.

Violations are subject to the disciplinary provisions of show management, the state in which the show occurs, and the national dairy breed association. Sanctions may include any one, or combination of the following:

The North American International Livestock Exposition Board has approved the above code provided it is enforced by a committee, including official show veterinarian, and provided the rules are enforced in such a manner they do not preclude normal, needed veterinary care.

NAILE MILKOUT PROCEDURE1. The call for a milkout can be a breed association rule; or a judge’s request; or

the Ethics Committee; or a NAILE management request.

2. The announcement for a milkout must be made while the cows are still in the show ring.

3. The cows must be escorted from the show ring to the milking parlor by a representative selected by the breed association. Any identification problems on a cow will be resolved by a breed association representative.

4. All cows must be taken directly to the KEC milking parlor and checked by the official veterinarian. The use of an individual’s portable milker must take place in the milking parlor or location designated by KEC.

5. The procedures for sampling the milk will be supervised by the Kentucky Milk Safety inspectors. The NAILE official veterinarian will be responsible for witnessing the milkout of each cow and can inspect the milk and udders before, during, and after the milkout.

6. When cows are returned to the show ring, they must be escorted directly from the milking parlor to the show ring. The NAILE official veterinarian will be available if the judge requests a consultation.

7. The only provision for photographs will be those taken in the show ring during the award presentations.

8. The definition of a milkout would be the removal of all milk in the udder comparable to the normal daily management practices of a dairy cow.

9. All violators of the PDCA show ring code of ethics will follow the guidelines stated in the PDCA Enforcement Procedures previously listed. A Milk Safety inspector will be available for assistance if requested.

*The Jersey Jug Milkout will follow the American Jersey Cattle Association Milkout rules.

GENERAL DAIRY RULES

1. ALL ENTRIES MUST BE MADE IN NAME SHOWN ON REGISTRATION CERTIFICATE. EACH ANIMAL SHOULD BE ENTERED ON AN ENTRY FORM OR OVER THE INTERNET. NOTE: It is recommended that exhibitor and breeder be defined as follows: “Where a herd is registered in the names of different members of a family, residing on one farm and when the herd is one unit, all entries may be considered as a single exhibitor for Premier Exhibitor, Premier Breeder, Dairy Herd, Junior Best Three Females, Breeder’s Get-of-Sire, State Herd, and Best Three Female Classes. An animal owned by any person in the ‘Herd Unit’ may be substituted for one owned by any other person in the ‘Herd Unit’.”

Animals owned in partnership or by syndicate may be shown in the name of the partnership or syndicate only; except that at time of entry a determination shall be made that such animals will be shown in the name of one partner or syndicate member; and the animals must be shown the same way in the group classes, as they are in the open single classes.

Applications for entries in the cattle department must be filled in on the proper forms or internet, giving the name of the recorded owner, animal’s name, number and date of birth and the name and number of the sire and dam of the animal to be exhibited. GROUP CLASS ENTRIES WILL BE MADE AT TIME PAPERS ARE CHECKED.Any applications or lists prepared by the NAILE management are to be informative only and are NOT to be considered as legal documents of title or ownership.2. Each exhibitor will be required to present certificate of registration for his entries

when called upon by the Superintendent in charge.3. All entries must be animals recorded in the American or foreign herd books for the

particular breed to which they belong.4. All exhibitors are limited to winning two premiums and two ribbons in each class and

only one premium in group classes. EXCEPTION - Get-of-Sire where gets are by two different sires. Produce of Dam where produce is from two different dams.

5. Protest (SEE General Rules).6. The Dairy Department Staff must check the exhibits competing for premiums in

each ring, and so mark the entry book that it will show animals exhibited in each ring, as well as, which animals were awarded premiums.

7. The Exposition Management would appreciate the courtesy of all cattle exhibitors if they remove all female cattle from the barns when they freshen and not return these animals to exhibition barns until they are thoroughly clean. This is only fair to the public and other exhibitors in that it removes any possible nuisance.

8. Substitutions: Substitutions are allowed in the same class with the same recorded owner or herd unit. In addition, one open substitution (out of class) will be allowed per herd unit of the same breed. Once an animal has been substituted in either the Junior or Open Shows, the original animal entered shall be eliminated from any further competition.

9. Before September 20 the entry fee is $25 open show and $20 junior show per entry. Open and Junior late entries will be accepted if postmarked after September 20 but no later than October 10, and accompanied by a $50 open show; $40 junior show per entry. Extra Late entry will be available for Junior & Open Dairy Cattle. Entry fee is $100 per entry and entries must arrive in NAILE office by October 21st. Any entries received after October 21st will not be accepted regardless of postmark. To enter both the open and junior shows you must pay the junior and open entry fees. If you exhibit in the Junior Show and did not enter the Open Show but wish to exhibit in the Open Show you may enter the Open Show by paying a $500 entry fee within

one hour of the completion of your breed’s Junior Show.10. The West Wing and the Pavilion will NOT be open on Saturday, November 1 and

Sunday, November 2. Stalls will not be available to bed down prior to 1:00 p.m. on Monday, November 3. All dairy cattle must be out of building by 8:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 12.

11. ALL DAIRY STALLING REQUEST MUST BE IN NAILE OFFICE BY OCTOBER 15TH. NO EXCEPTIONS. Stalling requests and questions can also be directed to Superintendent Dan Grigson at 606-365-2447, or [email protected] or fax to 606-365-3238. All requests must be accompanied by a phone call back number. Include the name of the actual exhibitors (Open & Junior) that the animals are entered under on the request.

12. Red & White Dairy Cattle are eligible to enter and compete in only one breed classification regardless if the animal is registered with one or more breed associations or registries. Animals must be exhibited as entered on original entry form. Switching between breeds will not be allowed. Animals must be shown in the same breed for both the Open and Junior Dairy Show.

13. Health Regulations (SEE General Rules).14. The North American International Livestock Exposition will provide large, portable

containers for disposal of manure and trash. These vehicles will be parked at various locations throughout livestock buildings at all times. No bedding or manure is to be heaped into this area at any time. It must be put into the above container and will be removed when full and replaced by another receptacle.

15. ALL ANIMALS MUST BE RECORDED IN THE OWNER’S NAME PRIOR TO THE OPEN SHOW. TRANSFERS OF ANIMALS MUST BE COMPLETED BY AT LEAST 1 HOUR PRIOR TO THE OPEN BREED SHOW. ALL JUNIOR OWNED ANIMALS MUST FOLLOW REGISTRATION AND TRANSFER REQUIREMENTS PERTAINING TO DATES IN THE RULES OF THE VARIOUS JUNIOR SHOWS.

16. Any dairy cattle sale animals can be entered in the open show after their breed sale (within 1 hour) in the name of the new recorded owner only. The normal ($25.00) entry fee will be required. They must remain until the other show cattle are released if they are shown.

17. Showmanship classes: The age of the junior exhibitor is determined by January 1 of the current year. The animal used in showmanship must have been shown in the individual classes by the same exhibitor.

18. The drinking of alcohol by minors is prohibited per ABC guidelines and KEC policy.19. The moving of stall assignments by exhibitors is NOT allowed. Violators will be

subject to further action by NAILE staff.20. There will be a $25.00 service charge on all returned checks and declined credit cards.21. There will be NO dormitory in the West Hall.22. All animals in production classes are subject to ultrasound testing and milk sample

testing. The testing is pursuant to Kentucky Law KRS 246 dealing with unethical practices used in regard to livestock and the criminal penalties involved. In order to maintain the integrity of the exhibition and presentation of dairy animals, the NAILE will continue a testing program at this year’s Expo. In all production classes the 1st and 2nd place animals are required to be tested. Additional animals may be randomly selected within class for testing. Show officials will present testing cards during the class line-up to the entries to be tested. Please take your animal and card to the examination area located on the ramp at the rear of the make-up area. If the

animal will be shown in a champion, reserve champion or group class, you may wait until after that class has been completed. All animals selected are to be examined before leaving the show ring testing area and before they are milked out. Failure to follow these requirements may cause disqualification of all of the exhibitor’s entries. Each breed association has a representative that will assist with escorting the animal and the leader to the examination area.

23. All champion animals will be ultrasounded and milk sampled. This includes, but is not limited to breed champions, the Jersey Jug Futurity Champions and the Supreme Champions.

24. NO BARBED OR PRONGED HALTERS ALLOWED.

25. Dairy animals must have a permanent identification and this permanent identification must match the animal identification on the animal health papers. It is strongly recommended that an 840 tag be utilized in addition to breed tattoo and corresponding registration papers. All sale animals must have a USDA approved premise EID tag.

THE NORTH AMERICAN INTERNATIONAL LIVESTOCK EXPOSITION WILL HAVE A MILKING PARLOR FOR THE CONVENIENCE OF THE DAIRY EXHIBITORS AND EVERYONE IS WELCOME TO USE IT. Garland Bastin - north american internationallivestock exposition scholarship award

Garland Bastin served as the NAILE General Superintendent for 27 years, from the show’s founding until his death in 2000. He was an individual with the highest integrity who truly loved young people. He believed that exhibitors of animals at livestock shows should at all times deport themselves with honesty and good sportsmanship. Their conduct in this competitive environment should reflect the highest standards of honor and dignity. The NAILE Executive Committee is proud to offer a $1,000 scholarship in memory of this extraordinary man.

Scholarship Rules:

• To be eligible you must be a high school senior during the current school year.

• To be eligible you must exhibit at least one animal in the NAILE Junior Dairy Show in the year that you apply for the award.

• To be eligible you must be available for the award presentation during the NAILE Junior Supreme Dairy Show.

The application will be judged by a panel of livestock industry professionals. Judges’ decision is final.

The application will be judged on the following basis: 35% — Academic and achievements 30% — Involvement with dairy cattle 35% — Essay

Payment of the scholarship will be made upon proof of acceptance for enrollment in a college or other institute of higher learning. Payment will be made directly to the recipient. The scholarship is only available for payment within a 24 month period after it has been presented.

It is recommended that the two cows in each class be given special recognition just prior to the final placing of their respective class. The best uddered cows from each of the classes will not compete for an overall best udder award of the show.

STATE HERD CLASSFOR REGULAR, REGIONAL & NATIONAL BREED SHOWS

(unless otherwise specified)

A State Herd shall consist of six animals from one state as follows:

Two females, two years old or over; two females, under two years of age; two other females, any age, or one bull and one female, any age.

The six animals in the State Herd must be owned by not less than three exhibitors from one state, with no exhibitor furnishing more than three animals. All animals in which a breeder owns a partnership interest will be counted in the three which he is allowed. All animals from a herd or farm, regardless of ownership, shall be counted in the three head allowed one exhibitor.

Animals owned by state institutions will be allowed to show in the state herd class, but all institutions in a state will be considered as one exhibitor and allowed to show not more than three head in a state herd group.

These entry fees are non-refundable and are to be used to pay the Kentucky club’s share of expenses related to this show. Fees MUST be paid per head entered before the exhibitor numbers are distributed.

An extra late entry fee will be available for Junior & Open Dairy Cattle. Entries will be $100 per head and must arrive in the NAILE office by October 21st. Entries not in the NAILE office by October 21st will not be accepted regardless of postmark.

ALL EXHIBITORS WILL BE REQUIRED TO WEAR SHOW HARNESSES WHILE EXHIBITING THEIR ANIMALS.

The judge is to select the two best uddered cows in each age group and these animals will be recognized by awarding a 1st and 2nd place ribbon in each class.

Production awards at all National Ayrshire shows must be awarded for official lactations completed within the last 12 months from the date of show, and the animal must currently be on official test.

All animals exhibiting in a national Ayrshire show must be verified as at least 87% Ayrshire by the U.S. Ayrshire Breeders Association.

The Nasco International Award - A trophy to be awarded at each National Show to the exhibitor of the cow with the highest ECM. The cow must stand in the top 5 if less than 20 in the class or top 20% if more than 20 in the class. Dry cows are not eligible for this award. The official DHIA record must be provided by the owner with substantiating evidence (the official DHIA record report form or a statement giving the record, signed by the official DHIA supervisor) when the entries are checked.

The following premiums are offered by the North American International Livestock Exposition ($2,000.00), the Ayrshire Breeders’ Association National Youth Committee ($500.00) and the Kentucky Ayrshire Club ($155.00). All premiums will be paid directly to exhibitors by the North American International Livestock Exposition.

General Dairy Rules of the North American InternationalLivestock Exposition apply.

1. Eligibility: Must be a National Ayrshire Junior Member, applications and payment can be made at Louisville. Exhibitors may participate the year of their 9th birthday and until December 31 of the year in which he or she turns 21 years old.

2. Ownership: Animals may be owned solely by the junior exhibitor or in a partnership provided the junior exhibitor’s name appears on the registration papers, prior to August 1. All purchased animals must be transferred by August 1. The recorded date, not the delivery date, will be considered the transfer date. Registration papers will be checked at the show. In lieu of ownership, a lease agreement will be accepted. An approved lease of a 4-H, state or FFA program will be recognized upon verification at the National Ayrshire Office by August 1st. If a lease program is not available in your state, a form may be obtained from the National office.

3. Participation:

a. Only one animal may be exhibited by each exhibitor in each class. Not more than four may be shown in the entire show that were not bred by the exhibitor. In order to qualify as breeder, the registration papers must show the Junior exhibitor or a partnership including the junior exhibitor as the breeder.

b. To be eligible to compete for the cash awards, ribbons or recognition, an animal must be shown by the Junior in all cases except by prior written approval. If approved, another Junior must show the animal. Adults are not allowed to show in any case or assist with the State Herd class.

c. A “dress code” will be strictly enforced for juniors showing at national shows. WHITE pants with a “neat” shirt must be worn or the junior exhibitor will not be allowed to show his/her animal. No leeway or special allowance will be made to this rule.

5. Entry Fee: Exhibitors mailing entries postmarked on or before September 20 must pay a fee of $20.00 per head for Junior Show entries. For an additional $25.00 entry fee per head ($45.00 total), exhibitors are entitled to enter the Southern National Ayrshire Open Show. Please mark the appropriate selection on the entry form. Entry fees must be sent with the entries. Late entries will be accepted, accompanied by a $50.00 open show & $40.00 junior show entry fee, if postmarked after September 20, but no later than October 10. 25 - Best Animal Bred and Owned - Registration papers will be checked in the ring to verify that the individual junior exhibitor is the breeder.

Arthur Clark Showmanship Classes

1. Junior Showmanship Class - youth qualifying must be between the year of their 9th birthday to the year of their 13th birthday.

2. Senior Showmanship Class - youth qualifying must be between the year of their 14th birthday to the year of their 21st birthday.

The showmanship classes will be the last classes in the Junior Ayrshire Show. The youth must own the animal they are showing and must have exhibited it in an individual class.

National Junior Ayrshire Show Awards

A. Arthur Clark Showmanship Award - The winners of the Junior and Senior Division of the Arthur Clark Showmanship Class will receive a show halter with an engraved plate on it presented in honor of Mr. Arthur Clark. The two winners of each national show will also have their names engraved on a permanent plaque located in the Award room of the Dairy Shrine in Madison, Wisconsin. This award is funded by the Arthur Clark Showmanship Award Fund of the National Ayrshire Breeders’ Association.

B. Special rosettes for first through fourth placings will be presented to all junior participants and participation ribbons to all remaining juniors in each class will be awarded. These awards are funded by the Ayrshire Breeders’ Association.

C. Individual Class Awards - An engraved plaque will be presented to all class winners in each designated Junior Show Class at all National Shows. These class awards will be individually sponsored and the sponsorship will be announced at the time of presentation. This award is being coordinated by the National Youth Fund of the Ayrshire Breeders’ Association.

D. Louis Zumbach Grand Champion Award - National Junior Show - An ideal model Ayrshire Cow will be presented to the Grand Champion Junior animal at all National Shows. This award is in memory of Louis Zumbach and is funded by the Louis Zumbach Fund of the National Ayrshire Breeders’ Association.

E. National Youth Junior Champion Award - National Junior Show - A sculpted, engraved plaque will be awarded to the Junior Champion animal at all National Shows. This award will be individually sponsored and the sponsorship will be announced at the time of presentation. This award is being coordinated by the National Youth Fund of the Ayrshire Breeders’ Association.

F. Louis Zumbach Total Performance Award - A silver platter and certificate will be awarded to the top junior owned and exhibited animal for total performance. A total performance score is placed on each animal, three years old and over, based on 100 points as follows:

STATE HERD REQUIREMENTS

A State Herd shall consist of six animals from one state as follows: two females, two years old or over; two females, under two years of age; two other animals, any age, but not more than one may be a bull.

The six animals in the State Herd must be owned by at least three exhibitors from one state with no exhibitor furnishing more than three animals. All animals in which a breeder owns a partnership interest will be counted in the three he is allowed. All animals from a herd or farm, regardless of ownership, shall be counted in the three head allowed one exhibitor. Any partnership or syndicate animals must be shown in the herd of the state in which they are usually housed.

Exhibitors are responsible for furnishing verification of record at time entry is checked in by the Cattle Superintendent. This award will be presented in designated National Shows and is sponsored by Nasco, Fort Atkinson, WI.

Total Performance WinnerThis class will recognize a cow on her Total Performance - milk production and show ring placing. Her score will be determined by:1. Placing in her respective class;2. Her highest 305-day, Energy Corrected Milk (ECM) record and;3. The total pounds of ECM produced per day over 24 months of age up through July 1, 2014. (Up-to-date production through July 1, 2014 as reported on the monthly DHI report, should be supplied to the exhibitor two weeks prior to show day.)The requirements a cow must meet to qualify for the Total Performance class are as

Official lifetime production records on all qualifying cows must be sent to and received by the National Brown Swiss office at least two weeks prior to show day so that records can be verified and productions scores calculated. Records received after that will be accepted only with a $50.00 late fee. The DHI sheet showing credits up through July 1 will be accepted to update lifetime records. It is the owner’s responsibility to supply these records, including the July test sheet.

The Total Performance Award is presented at each National Show to the exhibitor whose cow has the highest score based on the above criteria. The winner at each show receives a banner. The overall winner is named the National Total Performance Winner and receives a trophy at the following Brown Swiss Annual Meeting.

Eligibility rules are:1. Eligibility: Participation in this show is open to all boys and girls with Registered

Brown Swiss, who are Junior members of the National Brown Swiss Association are are between the ages of 9 and 21. Exhibitors must not have reached their 22nd birthday by January 1 in the year competing. Members who become 21 years of age during the current year will be allowed to compete in Junior activities until December 31st of the current year and not beyond this time.

2. For an animal to be exhibited as junior owned, the animal must be registered in the juniors name prior to the animal’s second birthday. If an animal is purchased by a junior member, after the animal is two years old, that animal must have been owned by the junior member for at least one year, based on the sale date, before it can be shown as a junior owned animal. Animals that are leased through the National Brown Swiss Association Lease Program are also eligible to be shown by juniors. Partnerships are not allowed nor are animals owned by the farm. The leased animal’s recorded owner will receive open show honors.

3. The junior who owns or leases the animal is to show her. If the owner cannot attend the show, another National Brown Swiss Association Junior Member may show the animal. Also, in a class where a junior member owns more than one animal, the owner must show one animal, another National Brown Swiss Association Junior Member may show the second animal.

4. Ribbons will be awarded in each class.5. Health Requirements are the same as the Open Show.6. Entry Fee: Exhibitors mailing entries postmarked on or before September 20 must

2015 FIGHT BAC GUERNSEY GOLD NATIONAL THREE-YEAR-OLD FUTURITY

The Guernsey Gold Futurity will be shown Monday, November 9 at 8:00 a.m.

General Rules

The Futurity is for three-year-old cows born from September 1, 2011 through August 31, 2012. To be eligible for entry into the show, all four payments ($3, $5, $10, $25) must have been received by the American Guernsey Association (AGA) by the appropriate deadline. The fourth payment of $25.00 must be sent to the AGA by September 1, 2015. The AGA board of directors is at all times, the governing body of this Futurity. All matters pertaining to the showing of this Futurity are subject to the rules and regulations of the NAILE.

Premier Points

The first and second-place winners will compete for the NGS-Louisville intermediate champion and will qualify for premier breeder, exhibitor and sire points. The remaining entries will not qualify for premier points in the Guernsey Gold Futurity, but will be allowed to show in the NGS-Louisville if proper entry has been made. If the first- or second-place animal is shown in the NGS-Louisville three-year-old cow class, then the premier points earned in the Guernsey Gold Futurity must be forfeited. The premier points would then result from the animal’s placing in the NGS-Louisville three-year-old cow class.

Premiums

The money collected from entry fees minus expenses will be given to exhibitors showing in the Guernsey Gold Futurity. The breakdown of premiums is as follows:

1st - 15%, 2nd - 12.5%, 3rd - 10%, 4th - 7.5%, 5th thru 10th - 5%, 11th thru 25th - Remainder of pot divided equally to these finishers but not to exceed the premium paid to higher-placing finishers. These figures are subject to change depending upon number shown.

“Total Performance Cow Award”

ELIGIBILITY

Animals must place in the top 50% of their respective classes to compete. A cow must have at least two completed records of 305 days or less. Both records used must be DHIR or DHI. An average of the top two completed 305 day or less actual production records will be used. Yield Deviation (YD) on official AGA pedigrees will be used and the type appraisal scores will be verified. Dry cows are not eligible. This is not a lead out class, however, the winning animal will be asked to return to the ring and the awards presentation will be made at this time.

Points will be calculated as follows:

Production - 10 points for each 1,000 pounds of milk based on the average of the top two records. One point for each 10 pounds of combined butterfat and protein (CFP) based on the average of the top two records.

Yield Deviation - 10 points for each 100 pounds of milk, one point for each pound of CFP.

Appraisal Score - The cow’s current official appraisal score will be doubled.

Show Placings - Points will be awarded on the basis of the official placing in the class. These points will be taken from the scale used for Premier Breeder and Premier Exhibitor and multiplied by 20 to equal show points.

Breeder - 50 bonus points shall be awarded if the exhibitor is the breeder of the animal.

If a tie should exist, a lactation factor shall be applied, with 10 points being awarded for each lactation the cow has completed.

Total Performance Cow Award - A plaque in honor of Lee Yost of Benton, Pennsylvania, to be presented by the Pennsylvania Guernsey Breeders’ Association. A $100 award presented by the American Guernsey Association.

Production Awards - Ribbons will be awarded by the American Guernsey Association to the Junior and Senior three-year-old, four-year-old, five-year-old, and aged cows with the highest actual 305-day milk, butterfat, and protein production records. These awards will be based on the most recent 305-day records produced on DHIR or DHI test. Exhibitors may provide updated official test sheets to document production.

30 - State Herd - The State Herd shall consist of six head.

This state herd class will be figured on a point basis similar to Premier Breeder and Premier Exhibitor.

The herd shall be composed of the following animals: 2 Females, two years old or over (in milk) 2 Females, under two years of age (not in milk) 2 Other females, any age

And the following requirements must be met:

1. The six animals in the state herd must be owned by not less than three exhibitors with no exhibitor furnishing more than two animals. All animals in which a breeder owns a partnership interest will be counted in these two.

2. All animals from a herd or farm, regardless of ownership, shall be counted in the two head allowed an exhibitor.

3. Cattle owned by state institutions will be allowed to show in the state herd class, but all institutions in a state will be considered one exhibitor and allowed to show not more than two head in a state herd group.

4. The president or secretary of the state club or association concerned must make the entry of the State Herd by entry closing date. The entry must name the person or persons who will be in charge at time of the show, which person or persons shall name the animals that shall constitute the herd and to whom premiums are to be paid.

5. All of the animals must be entered and shown in the open individual classes under their respective owner’s name. Consignors to State Herds must conform to all open class regulations.

31 - Premier Breeder - The breeder winning the most money or points on no more than six animals in the open single classes, including those bred and exhibited by himself and those bred by him but exhibited by others, shall be designated Premier Breeder as determined by a scale of points adopted by the show management.

b. All exhibitors will be required to wear white clothes while exhibiting their animals. Shirts or other items of clothing with a farm name will not be allowed. Junior show shirts provided by the AGA must be worn.

c. The participant must be an AGA Junior member and the recorded owner of one or more registered Guernsey Females, properly recorded in the Herd Register of the American Guernsey Association or a respective National Guernsey Association or a participant in the American Guernsey Association Youth Lease Agreement Program.

d. The qualifying record of ownership or lease for animals, other than those bred by the junior exhibitor, shall be determined by the actual date the application for transfer of ownership was received in the office of the American Guernsey Association. This date is automatically stamped on the back of the registration certificate and will be found with the transfer of ownership data. The qualifying dates are:

In classes 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18 and 19, the date of receipt stamped on the registration certificate must be prior to July 15, 2015.

e. In all classes the recorded ownership must show in the sole ownership of the exhibitor or partnership comprised of only junior members or be a participant in the American Guernsey Association Youth Lease Agreement Program.

f. If the participant is exhibiting under the American Guernsey Association Youth Lease Agreement Program, all guidelines and terms must have been followed and a copy of the signed and dated agreement must be present.

2. Frequency of Participation - Any boy or girl who meets eligibility to participate may exhibit in as many years as his or her eligibility will permit.

3. Entries Exhibited

a. Each eligible exhibitor is limited to two entries in any one class and is eligible to show in each class.

b. There is no limitation on the number of times an eligible animal may be exhibited.

c. To be eligible to compete, an animal must be shown by the Junior in all cases except by prior written approval. If approved, another Junior member the same age or younger must show the animal. Adults are not allowed to show in any case or assist with the State Herd class. Another Junior may assist in the show ring should difficulties arise during a class. Substitute showmen must be approved by the American Guernsey Association prior to the show.

4. Responsibility of Entry and State Groups.

a. There is no limit on the number of entries per state.

b. Entries are to be made on entry forms or internet as available from the North American International Livestock Exposition, for both the National Junior Guernsey Show and the Open National Guernsey Show. Entries in the open show are subject to the entry deadlines and rules as set forth in the premium list published by each respective Fair site and reference to these rules is suggested.

c. Entries are to be sent directly to the North American International Livestock Exposition. The show management will then forward copies of the entries to the American Guernsey Association to confirm eligibility.

d.. Entries must be postmarked by September 20 and mailed to the North American International Livestock Exposition.

e. Entry fees of $25.00 for open show and $20.00 for junior show per animal must accompany the entry. Late entries will be accepted if postmarked by October 10, but must be accompanied by entry fees of $50.00 for open show and $40.00 for junior show.

f. An extra late entry fee will be available for Junior & Open Dairy Cattle. Entries will be $100 per head and must arrive in the NAILE office by October 21st. Entries not in the NAILE office by October 21st will not be accepted regardless of postmark.

5. Financial Support - The American Guernsey Association has appropriated financial support of the National Junior Guernsey Show program.

6. Ribbons will be awarded in each class.

7. Health requirements are the same as the open show.

8. Entries are to be stalled on the grounds by 10:00 a.m., Thursday, November 5, 2015. Cattle will be received beginning at 8:00 a.m., Wednesday, November 4. Health Papers must be available upon arrival; and the registration certificate for each entry must be available for identification at the time entries are stalled.

Holstein Association USA works cooperatively with the Purebred Dairy Cattle Association (PDCA), show management, exhibitors and judges to give encouragement, direction and uniformity to the National Holstein Show program.

I. ETHICS

At all times, Registered Holsteins® shall be treated in a humane manner and in accordance with dairy quality assurance practices so as to protect the health, safety and welfare of the livestock and the consuming public. No person shall present for exhibition or exhibit an animal which he or she knows, or has reason to suspect, is affected with or has been exposed to a dangerously contagious or infectious disease, illness or illegal or non-approved use of drugs, medication and/or prohibited substance or residue.

The position of Holstein Association USA, Inc. is that all animals presented for exhibition shall be in their natural conformation and structure, free of any alteration or modification caused by unethical fitting.

A. The following practices or procedures are considered unacceptable and defined as being fraudulent and/or unethical in the showing of Registered Holstein cattle:

1. Misrepresenting the age and/or milking status of the animal for the class in which it is shown.

2. Treating the animal, particularly the udder, internally or externally: a. with an irritant or counter-irritant, b. using a device to artificially create or enhance the udder crease, c. using other substances as detected by testing that cause changes in the udder

to artificially improve the conformation.

3. Surgery or unethical insertion of any matter under the skin or into body cavities, performed to change the natural contour or appearance of the animal’s body, though not to preclude practices required or involved in normal management.

4. Criticizing or interfering with the judge, show management or other exhibitors while in the showring, or other conduct detrimental to the breed or the show.

B. The following practices and procedures are considered to detract from the image of the showring when carried to excess and will be taken into consideration by the show judge in placing animals within a class:

1. The maximum allowable length of naturally growing hair anywhere on the topline is not to exceed 1 1/2 inches. Exhibitors will be required to comply with this rule before the animal is allowed to enter the ring.

2. Addition of foreign objects, including but not limited to hair or hair substitutes (except for false switches), cloth or fiber, to change the natural contour or appearance or the animal’s body is prohibited.

3. Unsportsmanlike conduct by exhibitors.

4. Improper fitting practices such as overfilling and overbagging.

5. Externally sealing the teat end with a preparation that does not harm the animal’s skin is permissible. Natural teat placement will be given preference over artificially positioned teats.

C. In keeping with the basic philosphy of Holstein Association USA, ethics are an individual responsibility of the owner of each animal shown. Violations of these policies are subject to the disciplinary provisions of the Association Bylaws.

1. The act of entering an animal in a National Holstein Show is the giving of consent by the owner, exhibitor, fitter and/or absolutely the responsible person (hereinafter referred to as “Exhibitor”) for show management to obtain any speccimens of urine, saliva, blood, milk, or other substances from the animal to be used in testing. Material may also be collected by ultrasound and photographic methods and by direct examination of the animal.

2. The act of entering an animal in a National Holstein Show is the giving of consent by the owner, exhibitor, fitter and/or absolutely the responsible person (the “Exhibitor”) to have disciplinary action for violation of this Showring Policy taken by show management, the state in which the show occurs, and/or Holstein Association USA without recourse.

II. CLASS RULESThe following class rules are to be followed at all National Holstein Shows:

A. Only animals of 87% Registered Holstein Ancestry or higher will be eligible.

B. Bred and Owned Recognition Rules To be considered for Bred & Owned awards, one of the original owners must be

listed as one of the current owners. Where a herd is registered in the names of different members of a family and where the herd is one unit, all entries may be considered as exhibits of one breeder.

Note: Please refer to the Junior Holstein Showring Policy, Rule F, for the definition

of Bred and Owned for Junior Shows.

C. Premier Breeder and Premier Exhibitor Rules 1. Premier Breeder The owner of the dam at the time of service shall be considered the breeder of the

animal. Where a herd is registered in the names of different members of a family, and where the herd is one unit, all entries may be considered as exhibits of one breeder. Otherwise, when animals are bred in partnership, each unique partnership is considered a unique breeder.

The exhibitor winning the most points (for a maximum of six animals exhibited in the open single classes by him/herself and/or other exhibitors) shall be designated the Premier Breeder. In classes with ten or less animals, no more than two head per breeder will be counted toward premier points.

2. Premier Exhibitor The exhibitor must be the owner. In case a herd is registered or bred in the names

of different members of a family, residing on one farm or breeding establishment, and where the herd is one unit, all entries may be considered as a single exhibitor for all group classes. However, members of one family, where cattle are not housed as one unit, will not be considered as a single exhibitor. D. Group Class Rules

1. Junior Best Three & Best Three Females Entries in the group classes must be entered and shown in their individual animal

classes. All must be bred by the exhibitor and at least one animal must be owned (solely or in partnership) by the exhibitor.

JUNIOR HOLSTEIN SHOWRING POLICYA. Eligibility: Exhibitors must be a minimum of nine years old to participate, but not

have reached their 21st birthday by January 1 in the year competing. Members who become 21 years of age during the current year will be allowed to compete in Junior activities until December 31st of the current year and not beyond that time. Exhibitors must be National Junior Members of the Holstein Association USA.

B. Entries: All animals must be registered by Holstein Association USA. The Junior Owner(s) or lessee must be recorded on the registration certificate.

Animals must have a minimum of 87% Registered Holstein Ancestry (RHA) to be eligible for the designated shows.

C. Ownership: Animal must be registered in the name of the Junior member or a partnership of Junior members, throughout the year exhibiting in order to qualify for Junior recognition. Adult-Junior and family or farm partnerships are not acceptable.

For an animal (cow or heifer) being transferred to a Junior, or a partnership of Juniors, the transfer application must be received by the Holstein Association USA office on or before June 1.

1. The leasing program is not available to youth who concurrently own any Registered Holsteins either as an individual or in partnership. However, if the lessee becomes the owner of the animal anytime during the year exhibiting, they will qualify for junior recognition.

2. A maximum of two Registered Holsteins may be leased by any youth at one time. Animals may not be leased by partnerships.

3. The lease may be terminated by either the owner (lessor) or the youth (lessee) by providing written notice to the other party 45 or more days before the intended termination date. A Lease Termination Report must be filed with Holstein Association USA. If the animal has been sold, submitting an application for transfer of ownership will also terminate the lease.

4. The animal must be leased before she reaches her first birthday. 5. Leased animals may only be shown by the lessee (Junior). If a leased animal is

shown by an adult, the lease is automatically terminated. The leasing Junior must show the animal at all shows; no substitutions may be made.

6. The owner of an animal to be leased must submit the Certificate of Registration for that animal and a completed Application for Transfer, with the “Lease” box marked, to Holstein Association USA, Inc. All lease applications must be received by June 1 in the year exhibiting.

7. The fee to lease an animal is $20. There is no fee to record a lease termination.

8. When a lease is initiated and approved, the Certificate of Registration will be printed with the lease details and mailed to the Junior lessee. When a lease is terminated and the Certificate of Registration is returned to Holstein Association USA, the lease termination will be recorded on the certificate and the certificate will be mailed to the owner. All leases expire on December 31 of the year in which the junior lessee becomes 21 years of age if not terminated prior to that date.

E. Exhibition: To be eligible to compete at National Shows, entries must be shown by the Junior owner in all cases, except by prior written approval. Alternate Leadsperson forms must be submitted to the Holstein Youth Program Specialist by 5:00 p.m. the day before the show. If approved, another National Junior Holstein member the same age or younger than said exhibitor must show the animal. Adults are not allowed to show, in any case, or assist with the Junior State Herd Class. A leased animal may only be shown by the Junior lessee.

F. Bred & Owned: To be eligible for Junior Bred & Owned, the name(s) listed as breeder and owner on the registration certificate must be the same. Adult-Junior partnerships are not acceptable. Family unit or farm partnerships will not qualify for Bred & Owned awards unless all partners are Junior members and listed on the certificate under breeder and owner.

G. Partnership: All animals must stand on the Association records in the individual name of the exhibitor. Adult-Junior partnerships will not be acceptable. Family or farm partnerships are not acceptable unless all members are Junior members and listed on the registration paper. The only acceptable partnership will consist of two or more Junior members. In case of partnership animals, all owners must not exceed 21 years of age as of January 1 of the participating year.

H. Violations: If any of the above Junior Show Ring Policy is violated, all Junior exhibitors involved will lose all privileges for that show the following year.

27 - Premier Performance Cow - This class recognizes two cows in each class based on their total performance. Only cows placing in the top 50% of their respective class are eligible for this award. Cows are ranked on a 100-point scale based on three different measurements: (1) placing rank in class (50 points), (2) rank for genetic merit as measured by AJCA Jersey Performance Index™ (25 points), and (3) rank for production, as measured by USDA Yield Deviation (25 points). In the event of a tie on Premier Performance points, the tie will be broken by the cow’s placing within the class.

The top two cows for performance points from classes 10 to 14 and 17 to 20 will be led out for this class. The first- and second-place Premier Performance winners from the National Jersey Jug Futurity are also eligible for this class, unless they are shown in the Open Show and fail to qualify (see rules for class 33). Premiums offered for class 27 are forfeited by any individual class qualifier that does not return to the ring for this class.

Cows qualifying for class 27 retain their placing rank points from their individual class, but are re-ranked for genetic merit and production. The Premier Performance Cow is the individual with the greatest number of accumulated points.

In the event of a tie on Premier Performance points, the tie will be broken: first, by the cows’ placings within the original class that qualified them for class 27; second, by their rank for Yield Deviation within class 27; and third, by their rank for highest actual pounds of milk within class 27.

The six animals must be owned by at least three exhibitors, with no exhibitor furnishing more than three animals. All animals in which a breeder owns a partnership interest will be counted in the three that he or she is allowed. All animals from a herd or farm, regardless of ownership, shall be counted in the three head allowed one exhibitor. Animals owned by state institutions will be allowed to show in the State Herd class, but all institutions in a state will be considered as one exhibitor and allowed to show not more than three head in a state herd group. This is not a lead-out class. This award recognizes the bull accumulating the most points on at least two (2) but not more than six (6) progeny shown. The award is based on 50% of progeny placings, 25% on sire JPI, and 25% on production based on progeny Yield Deviations as calculated by USDA-AIPL. The highest placing progeny used for placing points will also be the progeny used for Yield Deviations.

Ultrasound screening: The top six cows are required to undergo ultrasound screening, milk sample tests, and any other test(s) required by NAILE at the conclusion of the futurity. The judge, All American Executive Committee and/or AJCA Board of Directors have the authority to request NAILE managment to conduct random ultrasound and milk sample tests of any animal shown.

Any milk-outs during the Futurity will be at the discretion of the judge, the All American Executive Committee and/or the AJCA Board of Directors.

SPECIAL RULES

Futurity Winner: The Winner of the National Jersey Jug Futurity qualifies for the Intermediate Champion class (class 15) of The All American Jersey Show. The Winner is not eligible to show in her class in the Open Show. The Breeder of the Winner earns first-place senior female points for calculation of the Premier Breeder Award. The Recorded Owner (exhibitor) for the Futurity earns first-place senior female points for calculation of the Premier Exhibitor Award, even if ownership changes before the Open Show.

Reserve Winner: The second-place cow (Reserve Winner) qualifies for the Intermediate Champion class (class 15), with second-place senior female points awarded for calculation

of Premier Breeder and Premier Exhibitor as described above. However, this cow has the option of being shown in her class in The All American Jersey Show. She will not be eligible for Intermediate Champion unless she places first or second in the open show, and will earn Premier Breeder and Premier Exhibitor points only for the open show placing.

Premier Breeder and Premier Exhibitor Points: Cows placing third, fourth, fifth and sixth in the Futurity (class 33) and that do not show in the Open Show will earn points for their placings as follows: for Premier Breeder, to the Breeder of record; for Premier Exhibitor, to the Recorded Owner when the cow was exhibited in the Futurity, even if ownership changes before the Open Show. However, if shown in the Open Show, these points are forfeited and the cow will earn Premier Breeder and Premier Exhibitor points only for the Open Show placing.

Highest Ranking Female Bred by Exhibitor: Animals are qualified for this award, when (1) the names of the Breeder and Recorded Owner are identical on the registration certificate; (2) when the Recorded Owner is a member of the Breeder’s immediate family and has use of the Breeder’s prefix; or (3) the Breeder is listed by identical name among the Recorded Owners.

Highest Ranking Junior-Owned Cow. This special award recognizes the highest ranking cow that is shown in the Futurity in the recorded ownership, sole or partnership, of the junior leading it in the show. All other eligibility rules of The All American Junior Jersey Show will apply. Cows led by NAILE-approved alternate junior leadspersons are not eligible.

Premier Performance Award. Premier Performance points will be calculated as for class 27, with an award presented to the top-ranked cow shown in the Futurity. The two highest ranked cows qualify for class 27, unless they are shown in the open show and fail to qualify for class 27 based on their open show placing.

THE MAX GORDON RECOGNITION AWARD

This award is presented to an individual who exemplifies the principles of good sportsmanship, ethical behavior in and out of the show arena, promotion of the Jersey cow, ability, and professionalism, as noted by the recipient’s peers. Presentation is made during the National Jersey Jug Futurity.

NOMINATION RULES FOR THE 2018 NATIONAL JERSEY JUG FUTURITY1. All Registered Jersey heifers born on or after September 1, 2014, and before

September 1, 2015, are eligible. Animals must be registered in the Herd Register of the American Jersey Cattle Association (i.e., have GR or HR status) or have purebred registry status with Jersey Canada.

2. The nomination forms for Registered Jersey heifers must be sent to the National Jersey Jug Futurity, 6486 East Main Street, Reynoldsburg, Ohio 43068-2362. Entries may also be made using the Futurity website. Entries with payment in full must be postmarked by December 31, 2015.

3. It costs only $60.00 to complete the nomination procedure for the National Jersey Jug Futurity. Every animal that shows earns at least that amount in premiums.

(a) The nomination fee is $7.00 per entry and must be sent to the National Jersey Jug Futurity and postmarked by December 31, 2015. A one-time payment of $60.00 per entry, non-refundable, may be made at the time of nomination.

(b) The eligibility report and yearling fee of $8.00 per entry must be sent to the National Jersey Jug Futurity and postmarked by June 30, 2016.

(c) The eligibility report and 2-year-old fee of $10.00 per entry must be sent to the National Jersey Jug Futurity and postmarked by June 30, 2017.

(d) The final nomination fee of $35.00 and the eligibility report must be sent to the National Jersey Jug Futurity and postmarked by September 20, 2018.

Please note: Payments must be made by the above deadlines in order to be eligible for the 2018 Futurity. In case of transfer of a nominated animal, notify the National Jersey Jug Futurity of the change of ownership immediately. All closing dates for nominations and fee payments will be strictly followed. Payments that are not received by these deadlines will be refused and the animal disqualified. Refunds will not be made on any payments.

The purpose of The All American Junior Jersey Show is to teach the fundamentals of good dairy husbandry, to emphasize production and quality, to stress the breeding of better Jerseys, to aid in the development of a nationwide dairy program, to demonstrate the finer points of showmanship and exhibition and to provide for the boys and girls doing junior dairy work, a fitting climax to each year’s efforts.

EligibilityRule 1. Exhibitors. Exhibitors must be no younger than nine (9) and no older than 20 years of age as of January 1, 2015. U.S. residents must be members (junior or lifetime) of the American Jersey Cattle Association.

Rule 2. Entries. Animals must be registered in the Herd Register of the American Jersey Cattle Association (i.e., have GR or HR status) or have purebred registry status with Jersey Canada.The exhibitor must be listed as Recorded Owner on the registration certificate, either (1) as the sole owner or (2) by his/her name in joint ownership. If the joint ownership includes more than one person meeting the eligibility requirements of Rule 1 (above), one of them must be declared as the exhibitor during check-in.Animals must be registered and/or transferred to meet one of the above ownership requirements on or before August 1, 2015. The date of registration and/or transfer is the Date Recorded printed on the registration certificate.

Rule 3. Participation. Entries must be shown by the exhibitor, except by prior written approval from NAILE. Alternate leadspersons must (1) be associated with the Herd Unit and also eligible to show by age (Rule 1, above), or (2) if not, be the same age or younger than the exhibitor of the animal being shown. Requests for alternate leadsperson must be

submitted for approval by the NAILE dairy show superintendent on forms provided by the AJCA not later than 12:00 noon the day before the show. No more than two (2) animals may be shown by one exhibitor in any one class. The exhibitor must lead the first entry and the second entry must be led by an NAILE approved alternate leadsperson. Adults are not allowed to show in any case.

Rule 4. Breeder Status. In order to qualify for Premier Breeder points and Best Bred and Owned awards, the exhibitor declared at check-in must have his/her name recorded as a Breeder on the animal’s registration certificate. These awards will be made only to the individual exhibitor in the case of partnership animals.Entry forms for Premier Junior Breeder and Premier Junior Exhibitor will be distributed at check-in. Submit forms by 6:00 P.M. on the day prior to the show at the AJCA booth.Entry and SubstitutionsRule 5. Exhibitors mailing entries postmarked on or before September 20 must pay a fee of $20.00 per head for Junior Show entries. Exhibitors may also enter The All American Jersey Show for an additional $25.00 per head ($45.00 total). Please mark the appropriate selection on the entry form. All fees must be sent with the entries. Late entries will be accepted provided entries are accompanied by the proper entry fee(s).An extra late entry fee will be available for Junior & Open Dairy Cattle. Rule 6. Substitutions. Substitutions are allowed within the same class by the same Recorded Owner. In addition, one out-of-class substitution will be allowed per junior exhibitor. Once a Jersey animal has been substituted in either the Junior or Open show, the animal originally entered shall be eliminated from any further competition.

PhotographsRule 7. Exhibitors of the first and second place winners of each class are required to provide, at their expense, a professional photograph of the animal taken during the current show season to the Jersey Journal no later than December 1.

16 - Premier Performance Cow – BANNERThe class recognizes two cows in classes 1 to 4 and 7 to 10 based on their total performance. Only cows placing in the top 50% of their respective class are eligible for this award. Cows are ranked on a 100-point scale based on three different measurements: (1) placing rank in class (50 points), (2) rank for genetic merit as measured by AJCA Jersey Performance Index (25 points), and (3) rank for production, as measured by USDA Yield Deviation (25 points). In the event of a tie on Premier Performance points, the tie will be broken by the cow’s placing within the class.

Cows qualified for class 16 retain their placing rank points from their individual class, but are re-ranked for genetic merit and production. The Premier Performance Cow is the individual with the greatest number of accumulated points. In the event of a tie on Premier Performance points, the tie will be broken: first, by the cows’ placings within the original class that qualified them for class 16; second, by their rank for Yield Deviation within class 16; and third, by their rank for highest actual pounds of milk within class 16. RULESEligibility to PurchaseAnimals in the Pot O’Gold Sale can only be purchased by juniors between the ages of 7 and 20 (inclusive) on January 1 of the sale year, who reside in the United States or Canada. A junior may purchase only one Pot O’ Gold calf per contest year.

Related or unrelated youth may purchase an animal to be transferred to them in partnership. A junior may not purchase an animal consigned by a member of his or her immediate family.

Loss, death or transfer of ownership of any purchase before the record is complete will eliminate the heifer and owner(s) from the Pot O’Gold Production Contest.

Production ContestSeventeen percent (17%) of the gross sales will be set aside in a Pot O’Gold Fund. This fund will provide cash awards for the owners of the 22 calves that complete the highest records ranked by total product value.

Testing RequirementsAll heifers must be tested in a DHI herd owned by the purchaser, or the purchaser’s parent(s) or legal guardian(s). In the event this is not possible, a written request to test the heifer in another herd must be made to the All American Executive Committee by December 31 of the year the heifer is purchased. In any case, the heifer cannot be tested in the herd(s) owned by her breeder and/or consignor.

DHI records will be confirmed by files obtained from the Council on Dairy Cattle Breeding (CDCB). If completed in Canada, records must be a form of test recognized by the American Jersey Cattle Association (AJCA) or Jersey Canada.

Eligible RecordsRecords must be submitted to the American Jersey Cattle Association no later than July 1 of the contest year. Only first-lactation records are accepted, provided the heifer calves before 30 months of age.

Records must have a minimum Data Collection Rating (DCR) of 90 to qualify.

Rankings are determined by adjusting the records for age and month of calving using USDA regional factors (305-day, 2x, m.e.), then applying the USDA component values for Net Merit dollars.

Breeder - The breeder of the animal shall be the name of the person, farm, or partnership, as it appears on the registry certificate (owner of dam at time of service). Where a herd is registered in the names of different members of an immediate family (grand/parents, spouse, siblings, grand/children), but the prefix remains the same, all entries may be considered as exhibits of one breeder. When animals are bred in partnership or syndicates, each unique entity is considered a unique breeder. Bred and Owned - To be eligible for Bred & Owned awards, one of the breeders must be listed as one of the current owners. Where a herd is registered in the names of different members of an immediate family (grand/parents, spouse, siblings, grand/children), and the one of those members is an owner, that entry may be considered as Bred and Owned. If a breeder was part of a partnership and remains as an owner then the animal is considered Bred and Owned.

Exhibitor - The exhibitor must be an owner of the animal and appear on the registry certificate. Where a herd is registered or bred in the names of different members of an immediate family (grand/parents, spouse, siblings, grand/children), and where Herd Unit requirements are met, all entries may be considered as a single exhibitor. When animals are owned in partnership or syndicate, each unique entity is considered a unique exhibitor.

Herd Unit - If a herd is registered in the names of different members of an immediate family (grand/parents, spouse, siblings, grand/children), of the herd owner, these persons may be considered one breeder/exhibitor. To be considered part of the Herd Unit all animals must be: A) Housed in the same location (same premise ID). B) Under the exclusive care and management of the herd owner. C) Health tested and production tested with the owner’s herd - All animals listed on the same forms with the same herd code.D) When the “Herd Unit” option is elected, all animals owned and exhibited by any member of the unit must be shown under the “Herd Unit” entry - A list of names of all individuals owning animals included in the “herd Unit” and the name of the “herd Unit” must be submitted with the application for entry and will be considered as one exhibitor throughout the show.

Partner or Syndicate owned animals are not included under a Herd Unit.

Any uncertainty, or dispute, with the above definitions should be addressed with the AMSS Executive Secretary (or AMSS Representative present at the show) prior to the show. Their decision will be final.

37. To be eligible to be shown a Milking Shorthorn base hair color must be red, white or roan (red and white intermixed). No other base color is allowed.

38. Disqualification’s for color beyond the proceeding include animals that are brindled with diffuse black hairs on locations other than the edge of the ear, edge of the muzzle or nape of shoulder, or animals that have more than one location with black hair on other parts of the body.

39. “Black Hair” for purpose of these rules refers to hair that is black the entire length of the shaft to the root.

40. Minimal black hair described as “ticking” around the edge of the ears, edge of the muzzle and shoulder nape is permissible.

41. An animal is eligible to be shown if they have no more then one “spot” of black hair smaller than four square inches.

42. “Black Spot” refers to areas of solid black hair or to areas of black roan with diffuse white or red hairs intermixed.

43. Measurement is made around the distinct edge of the area in question.44. If an animal has one spot larger than four square inches, or more than one spot, they

are ineligible to be shown. 45. Any animal with one spot smaller than four square inches that is to be shown must be

blood/DNA typed for parental identification. If parental ID is confirmed the animal is eligible thereafter for all show and National awards.

46. Any animal the Executive Secretary examines and finds to have one or multiple black spots, irregardless of eligibility for showing, are required to be blood/DNA typed for parental identification to maintain registry status.

47. As there exist a lack of uniformity in varying show venues across the country in response to enforcement of the Black Hair rule, the Board of AMSS has stipulated the following. Only the Executive Secretary of the American Milking Shorthorn Society shall have authority in determining eligibility of animals under the Black Hair Rule. The Executive Secretary is required to be in attendance at all accredited National Shows.

48. When the Executive Secretary of the American Milking Shorthorn Society is in attendance at a National Show, or if she/he are at any other venue in which Milking Shorthorns are being exhibited as registered cattle in the AMSS Herd Book, she/he may, at their discretion, or at the request of either the owner of an animal or other exhibitor, examine an animal for eligibility due to the above color requirements or other considerations.

49. If the Executive Secretary is requested by a party other than the owner to examine an animal for any reason, the person requesting the examination must first post a $100 bond with the Executive Secretary.

50. If the animal examined is found to be ineligible under above rules 1, 2 or 5 or eligible under rule 6 pending parental identification, the bond is returned to the person requesting the examination.

1. Eligibility: Participation in this show is open to youth with registered Milking Shorthorns. Exhibitors must have been born between January 1, 1994 and January 1, 2006. Youth must be a member of the American Milking Shorthorn Junior Society by August 1 of the current year.For most current junior membership rules, please refer to www.milkingshorthorn.com

2. Registration: All animals must be registered in the full herdbook of the American Milking Shorthorn Society and have registry certificates issued by the American Milking Shorthorn Society. 5. Only the AMSS Executive Secretary shall have authority in determining the eligibility of animals and ownership for numbers 1-4.

6. Ribbons will be awarded in each class.

7. Health Requirements are the same as the Open Show.

8. Entry Fee: Exhibitors mailing entries postmarked on or before September 20 must pay a fee of $20.00 per head for Junior Show entries. For an additional $25.00 entry fee per head ($45.00 total), exhibitors are entitled to enter the Winter National Milking Shorthorn Open Show. Please mark the appropriate selection on the entry form. Entry fees must to be sent with the entries. Late entries will be accepted, accompanied by a $50.00 for open show & $40.00 junior show entry fee, if postmarked after September 20, but no later than October 10. The following premiums are offered by the North American International Livestock Exposition ($6,000.00) and the Red & White Exhibitors & Breeders ($1,500.00). All premiums will be paid directly to the exhibitors from the North American International Livestock Exposition.

The $25.00 per head entry fee must be sent to the NAILE office with the entry form. The additional $20.00 per head checked-in for the Open Red & White Show will be collected at the time the back numbers are distributed. This additional fee will be used to pay the Red & White Exhibitors & Breeders share of the premiums.

An extra late entry fee will be available for Open Dairy Cattle. Entries will be $100 per head and must arrive in the NAILE office by October 21st. Entries not in the NAILE office by October 21st will not be accepted regardless of postmark.

1. These are separate shows using RWDCA classes for Red and Whites only.2. The RWDCA will accept registration papers and/or a certificate of identification

(CID) from holstein association USA. Other registration papers accepted will be from RWDCA, Holstein Association USA showing the suffix “RED” and Holstein Canada showing the suffix “RED.”

3. All owners shown on registration paper must be a member in good standing of RWDCA.

4. Animals must be Red and White in Color. There will be a color reference guide available.

5. If for any reason an animal is in question for eligibility the RWDCA Management will be contacted before a final decision is rendered.

6. Eligibility of animal and RWDCA members will be determined on a show to show basis.

7. In order to enter/exhibit at any national and/or approved shows, Red and White animals must carry 87% dairy bloodlines as designated by RWDCA guidelines. Diary bloodlines include: Ayrshire, Brown Swiss, Guernsey, Holstein (Black & White and Red & White), Jersey, Milking Shorthorn, Angler, Swedish Red, Aussie Red, Lineback and Rouge Flammande.

8. RWDCA will assist show management determining membership status with a list of entries one week prior to the show.

9. Following the show, show management must provide RWDCA with a report that lists all placings, champions, etc.

10. After RWDCA receives the national show report, with individual class placings and champion information, the results will be entered into the animal’s permanent record.

OFFICIAL SHOW STATUS1. Official show status means that results of the show will become part of the animal’s

permanent record. Individual class placings are entered into the computer. A complete record of show placings is kept in the RWDCA files.

management requesting approved status and stating they will adhere to these rules is required to be an approved show for the All-American contest. Board action (or Executive Committee action, if necessary) is needed to revoke official status.

Convention shows prior to 1996 were called National Shows or International Shows. At the January 1995 board meeting, the directors moved to discontinue “international” shows after 1995. From 1996 through 2002, convention shows did not receive official status.

1. The Junior Red & White show will be held at the same time as the open show. Juniors will be recognized, placed and presented awards by stepping forward in their respective open show class with the exception of the Premier National Junior Show-Harrisburg, PA & Mid-East Fall Red & White Show-Louisville, KY. Please note that the Junior Red & White Show and Open Red & White Show are held separately at NAILE.

2. Exhibitors may participate after they reach nine years of age and until December 31 of the year in which he or she turns 21 years of age.

3. Animals must be Red and White in color. There will be a color reference guide available.

4. In order to enter/exhibit at any national and/or approved shows, Red & White animals must carry 87% dairy bloodlines as designated by RWDCA guidelines. 7. OWNERSHIP: Two or more juniors may own an animal. One junior must be on the halter to receive junior recognition. The animal must stay in the same partnership throughout the show season. Awards will be presented as one unit, to all owners equally.

8. Entries must be shown by the Junior owner in all cases, except by prior written approval. An alternate leadsperson request form must be hand delivered to the show chairman by 5:00 p.m. the day before for show approval. Included in statement - Name, age, and signature of junior owner, cell phone number of a contact person, class of animal, name and age of alternate leadsperson, and reason junior owner needs an alternate. If approved, the alternate must be the same age or younger of the junior owner. Alternate must also be an RWDCA junior member. Adults are not allowed to show in any case. If more than one animal owned by the same junior is eligible for the championship class, another eligible junior may show the animal or animals. Final approval will be decided by RWDCA staff and/or a member(s) of the RWDCA Board of Directors.

9. Dress code will be strictly enforced for juniors. White pants with an official show shirt must be worn or the junior will not be allowed to show (World Dairy Expo-Madison, WI & Premier National Junior Show-Harrisburg, PA & Mid-East Fall Red & White show - Louisville, KY)

10. Junior show classes consist of all female classes except Best Uddered of Show. There will be no junior show classes for group classes except Junior State Herd.

11. Bred & Owned: To be eligible for junior bred & owned, the name(s) listed as the breeder and owner on the Registration Certificate must be the same.

12. Red & White Dairy Cattle are eligible to enter and compete in only one breed classification regardless if the animal is registered with one or more breed associations or registries.
