THE PSALM APPOINTED The psalm is read responsively, by half verse.

Psalm 148:7-14, Laudate Dominum BCP Page 806 7 Praise the Lord from the earth, *

you sea-monsters and all deeps; 8 Fire and hail, snow and fog, *

tempestuous wind, doing his will; 9 Mountains and all hills, *

fruit trees and all cedars; 10 Wild beasts and all cattle, *

creeping things and winged birds; 11 Kings of the earth and all peoples, *

princes and all rulers of the world; 12 Young men and maidens, *

old and young together. 13 Let them praise the Name of the Lord, *

for his Name only is exalted, his splendor is over earth and heaven.

14 He has raised up strength for his people and praise for all his loyal servants, * the children of Israel, a people who are near him. Hallelujah!

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit: as

it was in the beginning, is now, and will be for ever. Amen.

THE LESSONS BCP Page 84 The First Lesson: Jeremiah 22:13-16 Reader A Reading from Jeremiah. Woe to him who builds his house by unrighteousness, and his upper rooms by injustice; who makes his neighbors work for nothing, and does not give them their wages; who says, ‘I will build myself a spacious house with large upper rooms’, and who cuts out windows for it, paneling it with cedar, and painting it with vermilion. Are you a king because you compete in cedar? Did not your father eat and drink and do justice and righteousness? Then it was well with him. He judged the cause of the poor and needy; then it was well. Is not this to know me? says the LORD. Therefore I will judge you, O house of Israel, all of you according to your ways, says the Lord GOD. Repent and turn from all your transgressions; otherwise iniquity will be your ruin. Cast away from you all the transgressions that you have committed against me, and get yourselves a new heart and a new spirit! Why will you die, O house of Israel? For I have no pleasure in the death of anyone, says the Lord GOD. Turn, then, and live. Reader The Word of the Lord. People Thanks be to God.

The Second Lesson: Galatians 6:14-18 Reader A Reading from the letter to the Galatians. May I never boast of anything except the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world. For neither circumcision nor uncircumcision is anything; but a new creation is everything! As for those who will follow this rule—peace be upon them, and mercy, and upon the Israel of God. From now on, let no one make trouble for me; for I carry the marks of Jesus branded on my body. May the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit, brothers and sisters. Amen. Reader The Word of the Lord. People Thanks be to God.

The Gospel Lesson: Matthew 11:25-30 Reader A Reading from the Gospel of Matthew. At that time Jesus said, ‘I thank you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and the intelligent and have revealed them to infants; yes, Father, for such was your gracious will. All things have been handed over to me by my Father; and no one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and anyone to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.

‘Come to me, all you that are weary and are carrying heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me; for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.’ Reader The Word of the Lord. HOMILY: Tracey E. Kelly

THE APOSTLES’ CREED BCP Page 96 I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth; I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

The Blessing of the Animals Officiant God’s animals inhabit the skies, the land, and the sea; we share the

earth with them, and like them rely on God’s blessing to sustain and preserve us. We gather today in communion and friendship with Francis of Assisi who preached to animals and moved throughout the known world sharing God’s unconditional love for all beings. Remembering Francis’ love for all God’s creatures, bring forward the animals entrusted to your care that we may bless them.

The animals to be blessed have their pictures scrolled through.

Officiant [the names are read], May God who created and preserves you

bless, defend, heal, and keep you, this day and always. Amen.

When all have been blessed the Officiant prays:

Officiant Let us pray. God of all creation: we give you thanks and praise. Open our eyes to see your hand at work in all creation. May your bountiful blessing be upon us all, God our Redeemer, now and for ever. Amen.

THE GENERAL THANKSGIVING BCP Page 101 Officiant and People

Almighty God, Father of all mercies, we your unworthy servants give you humble thanks for all your goodness and loving-kindness to us and to all whom you have made. We bless you for our creation, preservation, and all the blessings of this life; but above all for your immeasurable love in the redemption of the world by our Lord Jesus Christ; for the means of grace, and for the hope of glory. And, we pray, give us such an awareness of your mercies,
