4. Airflow Control4-1. Demonstrate the C/O and H/P airflow angle.

The flaps flatten out during cooling and also direct air down to the floor during heating.

4-2. Change the angle of the louvers by hand. You can adjust airflow direction by hand.

1. DC Inverter Power Control Point out the "Energy Saving with

DC Inverter" on the panel. Also, you can use the PowerPoint materials and

explain Inverter Power Control.Daikin Inverter Power Control reduces power consumption by approx. 30% than non-inverter. DC Inverter improves low-capacity operation by more than 20% compared to the conventional AC Inverter.

3. Quiet Operation3-1. Demonstrate the 5-step fan speeds and their

operation sound levels. The fan speed has 5 steps. Each decrease in airflow volume reduces the operation sound by 2 to 3 dB.

3-2. Compare the outdoor unit’s Rated and Quiet operation sound levels.Outdoor Unit Quiet Operation decreases the sound level by 3 dB.

2. Intelligent Eye (IE)2-1. IE has an infrared sensor that detects human

movement. When there is no movement, IE increases/ decreases the set temperature by 2 C.This gives energy savings of up to 20 to 30%.

2-2. Move to activate IE and point out the light indicator. Confirm a detection area. The indicator lights during human movement. The sensor has a very wide detection area.

5. Indoor Unit On/Off SwitchPoint out the Indoor Unit On/Off Switch. You can turn the indoor unit on/off even if you lose the wireless remote controller.

9. Durability9-1. Remove the top cover and point out the heat

exchanger fin.The fin is very resistant to acid rain and salt corrosion.

9-2. Point out the bottom.This is a rustproof-steel sheet.

6. Mould-Proof OperationShow the flaps shut after turning off the cooling/dry operation.Mould develops inside the unit. This causes odours at the start of cooling operation.Automatic 1 hour fan-only operation after cooling/ dry operation prevents mould and odours.

7. Flat Panel Design7-1. This simple and stylish design was awarded

Japan’s prestigious Good Design Award.7-2. Dust can be removed through wiping alone,

therefore suction resistance does not increase. This allows optimum capacity and low sound levels.

7-3. Wipe the panel smoothly and then remove it on the low display stand. It can be cleaned with only the single pass of a cloth. It can also be removed for more thorough cleaning.

10. Econo ModeThis function limits both the maximum running current and maximum power consumption to 70% of those during normal operation. It is useful for preventing circuit breakers from being overloaded during temporary peaks in the running current.

Note: The dimension diagram is a reference for making a display stand. Consider the dimensions, machine weight, fittings for the display unit when actually designing the display stand. If a heavy indoor unit is to be attached to the stand, take extra care with the design.

8. Titanium Apatite Photocatalytic Air-Purifying Filter

Take an optional Titanium Apatite Photocatalytic Air-Purifying Filter and point out “World 1st” POP.Titanium apatite is a new photocatalytic material with advanced adsorption power. This practical application of titanium apatite is the first in the world. While the filter’s micron-level fibres trap dust, this photocatalyst effectively adsorbs and decomposes bacteria and viruses, and also breaks down mould and odours.Remove the front panel and air filter. Put the filters out to show easy-to-replace.The photocatalyst is activated simply by exposure to natural light. The filter delivers consistent performance for up to 3 years.

Showroom Effects in A/C Marketing

People Want to Experience the ProductsWhen people buy cars or electric equipment, they view the actual product, hear and try user benefits, compare their values and finally decide. When people chose an air-conditioning system, they also want to experience the product. Plus, they want to check the installation work required by the system. For these reasons, a showroom plays a major role for users, architects, consultants and A/C professionals.

Showrooms Improve Marketing ProceduresShowrooms are strategic sales promotion facilities for A/C sales companies. They improve marketing procedures because using a range of materials and company members helps your proposals. They make your marketing more competitive.

Existing MarketingPoints1. People want to experience the products firsthand.2. Showrooms improve marketing procedures because they allow

you to use a range of materials and involve various company members in your proposals.

3. Showroom-based marketing creates a better relationship with customers.

Appeal points Activities Materials

1) Product features2) Key technologies3) Design and

installation skills of your company

4) Daikin group performance

• You can explain product features using both visual and oral presentations and demonstrations.

• Providing more detailed information encourages the customer to talk about his/her problems and needs.

• Using product displays connected to refrigerant piping allows you to introduce your higher installation skills.

Proposals are made in the customer’s office.

It may be difficult for you to gain an advantage over competitors’ sales people using only oral presentations, catalogues and proposals.

Unless you are able to create a good relationship with the customer after a few visits, you may not receive an order, or you may have to reduce the sales price.

Showroom-Based Marketing

Showroom

Visual presentations

Demonstrations

For customers

• For example, displays of VRV REFNET joints and Super Multi Plus BP units, as well as VRV-WII BS units, help installers to understand the increased ease of installation work.

• Product displays help them to recognise the actual sizes, durability and also reduced installation/after-sales service work.

For installers

• A visit by a customer to your showroom might be more effective in securing an order because top management and other staff can welcome the customer.

• The combined reliability of your company and the Daikin Group create a good relationship with the customer.

For your company

You invite a customer to your showroom after your visit.

You make the second presentation to the customer using product displays, panels, PowerPoint materials and help from other company staff.

It will be easier for you to make an appropriate proposal that responds to the customer’s individual requirements.

You may be able to secure an order without having to negotiate a price reduction, if you can create a good relationship with the customer through the use of well targeted materials and help from other staff.

Showroom Layout Plan

Layout plan• Showrooms can be operated in small to large spaces. Your company can stage a

product display if you have a space large enough for sales meetings. • A showroom should face the street. The glass section on the front of a building helps

visitors to find your office and also lets people passing by see that you sell air-conditioning systems.

Small space example: 12 m2 (2 x 6 m) with 1 product display and 1 meeting table

Medium space example: 30 m2 (5 x 6 m) with 2 product displays, 2 meeting tables and 1 mini mock up

Green plantsGreen plants are important in showrooms. Green plants are convenient for filling large spaces where there are no items around a display.

Showroom operationThe operation and maintenance of a showroom are more important than its initial creation in increasing your sales results. Specific staff should be assigned to oversee showroom operation.

Procedures• Keep the showroom clean.

Maintain POPs, displays, lights and green plants.

• Prepare an inquiry sheet to keep track of who visits the showroom and their reason for coming.

• Update POPs and panels to reflect new sales tips and visitor inquiries.

• Update displays every 6 months so they remain linked to promotional efforts.

• Stay in contact with past visitors by sending out direct mail and mail magazines. Distribute press releases when, for example, the showroom is renovated.

Product Displays

• Select models that your company particularly wants to promote and sell. They must remain linked to promotional efforts.

• Place an order with an external professional company for display stands or showroom designs. Provide this external company with dimension diagrams as a reference. Arrange the displays according to your culture, budget and available space to create the best result. Dimension diagrams are available on the enclosed CDR. See the Quick Reference for file names.

• Daikin original display stands are available at a minimal charge. See http://global.daikin.com/distributor/index.html The display stands introduced in this manual are not available.

Panels• Panels show the main features and/or charts

and illustrations to help your oral presentation. • Incorporate Group Performance panels

depending on your presentation.• The panels are available as Adobe Illustrator

and PDF on the enclosed CDR. See the Quick Reference for folder names and page 4 to 7 for the panel list.

POPs• POPs serve as reminders to help your oral presentation.• POPs are designed with dimensions of H 60 x W 150 mm

so they only include function names. Explain what each function is.

• The POPs and their background designs are available as PowerPoint on the enclosed CDR. Replace the copy and background depending on your presentation. See the Quick Reference for folder names.

Procedure1. Translate all text into your language and replace the outlined English text in the Illustrator. 2. Use a professional DTP service to produce the A1 size prints. Print out the document and attach it to a

Styrofoam board or an alternative with a depth of 5 mm to make it more durable. Mount this panel in a frame with hooks.

Procedure1. Print out the POP. 2. Attach it to a Styrofoam board

or an alternative with a depth of 3 mm.

3. Cut the board.

4. Attach it to the display with two-sided tape. See the product displays for POP positions.

Piping and wiring connection• A product display with refrigerant, drain piping and electric wiring is more effective.

This is because customers can better understand the comfort, convenience and silent operation provided by actual cooling/heating operations in regions where A/C has not been popular.

• In this case, do not cut the drain piping. Also, perform maintenance.• If it is difficult to connect both piping and wiring, you should complete the wiring. This

will allow the unit to perform fan-only operation.• The scripts for the split type ACs are based on the conditions for both cooling and

heating operations.

Note: This diagram is a reference for making a display stand. Consider the dimensions, machine weight, fittings for the display unit when actually designing the display stand. If a heavy indoor unit is to be attached to the stand, take extra care with the design.

4. High COPs 4-1. Point out the COP data on the “Flexible Design for

Large-Sized Buildings” panel. The VRV III line up currently features the normal type (space-saving type) and the high-COP type (energy-saving type). The 16 HP model of the high-COP type provides a COP of 4.31, 31% higher than the same model in the VRV II MA series. The normal type features a COP of 3.52. These are average values for heating and cooling operations.

1. Leader of the VRV MarketDaikin first launched VRV in 1982 as an air-conditioning system for offices and commercial facilities. Over the 25 years since it debuted, VRV has become almost an alternative name for multi-split systems for small to large buildings.VRV offers numerous benefits to users, such as individual control and energy savings, thanks to Daikin’s Inverter technologies. These advantages, along with VRV’s design and installation flexibility, have expanded the market.

7. Refrigerant Piping7-1. Point out a gas pipe, a liquid pipe and a REFNET

joint. The REFNET piping system greatly simplifies installation. Only 2 main refrigerant pipes are required for each system. The strainers, stop valves, two-way valves and three-way valves used in conventional water piping systems are also required. Thanks to the REFNET piping system and electric expansion valves, imbalances in refrigerant flow between units have been greatly reduced, even through small-diameter piping is used. The small-diameter piping is also easy to handle and requires less piping shaft space.

7-2. Prepare gas and liquid pipes for a 40 HP system of VRVIII. VRV III only needs small-diameter gas and liquid pipes. The VRV III specifications for the small-diameter piping are 38.1 for the gas piping and 19.1 for the liquid piping.

2. Large Capacities for Large-Sized Buildings

2-1. The outdoor unit line up features 25 models with capacities from 5 to 54 HP. The conventional VRV II line up features 22 models with capacities from 5 to 48 HP.

2-2. Indicate the “Wide and Large-Capacity Indoor Units” panel. The number of connectable indoor units has increased from 40 to 64. This indoor unit line up features 14 types, 79 models for 50 Hz and 13 types, 76 models for 60 Hz. Capacities range from 0.8 up to 10 HP.

5. Higher Installation Flexibility5-1. If you have created a footprint display, indicate the

footprints for VRV II and VRV III.To install a conventional 18 HP VRV II unit, a space of 1.44 m2 is required. For VRV III, only 0.95 m2 is required. This is a reduction of 34%.

5-2. The flexibility provided by Daikin’s compact outdoor unit simplifies installation work even for large-capacity systems. The new units can be easily transported using elevators or forklifts without pallets. They are also easy to suspend with belts.

5-3. VRV III provides an external static pressure of 78.4 Pa, 33% higher than the value of 58.8 Pa for the VRV II MA series. High external static pressures meet the requirements necessary for installation on each floor, which is often requested for large-sized buildings.

6. Nighttime Quiet Operation FunctionThis function can be used in automatic, manual or combined mode to reduce the sound levels of outdoor units. It is able to reduce the operation sound of a 10 HP unit by 3 to 13 dB in 3 steps.

Activities and demonstrations Spoken comments

4-2. Point out the heat exchanger, which is visible from the left, right and back sides of the outdoor unit, as well as the grille and fans, which can be seen from the top of the unit.VRV III delivers highly efficient performance thanks to its advanced new technologies. These include a wide-opening grille, improved fans with larger airflow volumes and higher external static pressures, and also a heat exchanger that has a wide effective exchange area with the left, right and back sides. A smaller compressor with a high-thrust mechanism prevents both thrust loss and refrigerant leakage. It maintains refrigerant circulation volumes with high-speed rotation.

3. Long Piping LengthThe piping length has been extended. This longer piping length provides more design flexibility.

3-1. Point out the start of the refrigerant pipe as it exits the outdoor unit and also the end of the pipe as it enters the ceiling-mounted built-in type indoor unit.Actual piping length means the refrigerant piping length between the outdoor unit and the last indoor unit. The maximum actual piping length is 165 m for VRV III and 150 m for the conventional VRV II.

3-2. Point out the start of the refrigerant pipe as it exits the outdoor unit and also the start of the pipe as it exits the first branch. Then, point out the end of the pipe as it enters the ceiling-mounted cassette type indoor unit and also the end of the pipe as it enters the ceiling-mounted built-in type indoor unit.Total piping length means the sum of the refrigerant piping length between outdoor and individual indoor units. This value is required to calculate refrigerant charge volumes.

The total piping length is 1,000 m for VRV III and 510 m for the conventional VRV II.

3-3. Point out the floor level for the outdoor unit and the height level for the indoor units.Level difference means the difference in height between the outdoor unit and the indoor unit. The maximum level difference is 90 m* for VRV III and 50 m for the conventional VRV II. Note: * This only applies when the outdoor unit is installed

above the indoor unit and excludes 5 HP models.

1. Water-Cooled Air-Conditioning Systems

1-1. Point out the water pipes for an outside unit. Water-cooled air-conditioning systems are little effect from outdoor temperatures, and their performance remains stable during low outdoor temperatures. These water pipes are connected to a cooling tower and a boiler. Heat is transferred between cooling tower/boiler and outside units via water pipes.

panel 121

This display image shows the heat recovery type. With this type, simultaneous heating and cooling operation can be performed. A BS unit for a same cooling/heating-operation group is required. Triple refrigerant pipes between the outside unit and the BS unit are required. Refrigerant pipes include a liquid pipe, a discharge gas pipe and a suction gas pipe.

There are double refrigerant pipes between the BS unit and the indoor units. The suction gas pipe is not required.

A large machine room is required if a water-cooled chiller is installed. VRV-WII’s compact outside units can be installed on each floor, and can be installed vertically above each other. The machine room for VRV-WII is smaller than that for a chiller.

2. Compact outside units You can also use the movie “VRV-WII, CDR05-04” to explain the user benefits compared to water-cooled chillers. The outside units feature a compact design and can be installed inside buildings. They offer a weight of just 150 kg and height of 1,000 mm, enabling installation in buildings with limited space or in underground malls where units can be installed outside. Thanks to its compact and lightweight outside units, this series can easily be installed on each floor. It is also free from limitations on piping length and level difference, allowing it to be flexibly installed in high-rise buildings.

3. Energy Savings with 2-Stage Heat Recovery

Point out the illustration of the 2-stage heat recovery on the panel. This series features a 2-stage heat recovery that uses the water and refrigerant pipes. This heat recovery operates between the outside units via the water pipes and between the indoor units via the refrigerant pipes. This configuration enables efficient simultaneous heating and cooling operation.

1. Heat Reclaim Ventilation1-1. Air conditioning consists of 4 factors.

Temperature-, humidity-, airflow controls and purifying maintain high indoor air quality. People wish to both improve indoor air quality and reduce the operating costs of buildings. The demand for HRV has been increasing due to its ventilating operation and energy-saving performance in AC systems.

1-2. Point out the HRV. You can also use a short digital movie “mechanism

of heat exchange” of PMH0749.A ventilator delivers hot/cold outdoor air into a room in summer/winter. Heat Reclaim Ventilation (HRV) recovers heat energy lost through ventilation and also minimises room temperature changes caused by ventilation. The HRV is interlocked with both Daikin’s VRV system and other AC systems. Heating, cooling, ventilating, purifying and humidifying operations are all automatically controlled through this simple configuration.

2. Decrease in Air Conditioning Load 2-1. Point out the panel.

The air-conditioning load decreases by a total of approximately 30% when the HRV is interlocked with a Daikin VRV system and other AC systems. This 30% is divided as follows:Approx. 20% when running the HRV, rather than using ventilators.

Approx. 8% when using Auto-Ventilation Mode Changeover Switching. This mode automatically selects between Total Heat Exchange Mode and Bypass Mode according to the operating status of the air conditioners.Approx. 2% when using Pre-Cool/Heat Control. This mode reduces air-conditioning load by not running the HRV during the preset period (30, 45 or 60 minites).

2-2. An additional decrease of 5% are also possible when running Nighttime Free Cooling Operation. This mode discharges heat accumulated during the night to reduce the cooling load when the air conditioners are first turned on next morning.

1-3. Point out the heat exchange during cooling operation on the panel. Heat from the cool air returned from the room is removed by the heat exchanger element. After this, the heat exchanger translates the heat, from hot air from the outdoor, to the cool air. At the result, the hot air is discharged to the outside environment. Heat from the hot outdoor air is removed by the heat exchanger element and then the cool air is supplied into the room.

1-4. Point out the heat exchange during heating operation on the panel. Heat from the warm air returned from the room is removed by the heat exchanger element. After this, the cold air is discharged to the outside environment. Heat from the cold outdoor air is removed by the heat exchanger element and then the warm air is supplied into the room.

1. Mechanism of Natural Temperature Change

Point out the mechanism of natural temperature change on the panel. The temperature is cooler at the top of a mountain than at the foot. This is because the ambient air pressure is higher at the top than at the foot. When wind blows from the foot to the top of a mountain, its air volume expands due to this difference in air pressure. Energy is also required for this expansion to occur, and ordinarily it is supplied gradually as heat energy. However, in this case, no energy can be supplied externally because the expansion occurs so rapidly. Under these conditions, the heat energy of the wind itself is consumed. As a result, the movement of wind lowers the temperature at the top of the mountain.

2. Personal Experience of Heat Removal

Point out the personal experience of heat removal on the panel.

2-1. Bodies prevent to raise their temperatures because heat is removed when sweat evaporating. In this case, heat energy is consumed as the sweat changes from liquid to gas. Heat of 600 kcal/h is required to evaporate 1 litre of sweat, which is generally removed from the human body. This enables the body temperature to decrease by 12.5 degrees Celsius.** Adapted from page 63 of “Atsusa

Samusa to Ningen” (Heat, Cold and People) by Toyohiko Miura.

3. Four Elements for Air Conditioning Point out the 4 elements for air conditioning on the panel.Air conditioning means the comfort of indoor air is controlled in terms of 4 elements.

3-1.TemperatureTo maintain a comfortable indoor temperature.

2-2. When receiving an injection, you feel cool for a short time after your arm is wiped with alcohol. This is because the alcohol evaporates and carries away the heat from your arm. In this case, heat energy is consumed as the alcohol changes from liquid to gas.

2-3. Air conditioner mechanically continues to create the feeling cool at this time.

4. Refrigeration Cycle4-1. Point out the indoor and outdoor units and the

refrigerant pipes. You can also use screen 4-1 “cooling, refrigerant flow” from the refrigerant flow simulator in D3D002. A split-type air conditioner consists of an indoor unit, an outdoor unit, a refrigerant gas pipe and a refrigerant liquid pipe. Refrigerant is circulated sequentially through a circuit made up of these components.

4-4. Use screen 4-4. ”heating, refrigerant flow.” During winter, an air conditioner reverses a refrigeration cycle and exhausts warm air to an indoor. In turn, it is a pump to deliver from outdoor to indoor through refrigerant gas, by which heat is delivered. Thus, it is called a heat pump.During the heating operation, heat is removed from air taken in an outdoor. Thus, warm air is delivered to an indoor unit. Heat delivered from the outdoor unit is exhausted to the indoor.

4-6. Use screen 4-6. ”cooling, outdoor unit 3D.” Point out the condensation processes in the outdoor unit. The condensation operates in the outdoor unit. The refrigerant gas, having finished its job in the indoor unit, flows into the outdoor unit and is condensed at high pressure until it changes back into a liquid.During the condensation process, some amount of heat is produced and then later released by the heat exchanger in the outdoor unit. The heat exchanger in the outdoor unit lowers the temperature of the refrigerant so that it is closer to the ambient temperature. When other gasses than refrigerant gasses are condensed, they simply become higher pressure gasses. However, when refrigerant gasses are placed under high pressures, they change into liquids. In such cases, energies are more effectively retained in the refrigerant gasses. As mentioned previously, the refrigerant is changed from gas to liquid in the outdoor unit, after which it is evaporated in the indoor unit.4-5. Use screen 4-5. ”cooling, indoor unit 3D.” Point out

the evaporation processes in the indoor unit. When an air conditioner is first turned on, back pressure rapidly pushes liquid refrigerant into the evaporator in the heat exchanger. The space inside the evaporator is larger than that inside the liquid pipe where the refrigerant was previously stored. This means the refrigerant expands suddenly, which consumes its heat energy. As a result, the refrigerant lowers its own temperature. The evaporator also acts as a heat exchanger due to its unique structure. The temperature of the fins on the outside of the evaporator decreases due to the coolness of the refrigerant. This in turn reduces the temperature of the air surrounding the fins.A fan then distributes this cool air, and the refrigerant moves toward the outdoor unit through the gas pipe.

4-3. Use screen 4-3. ”cooling, refrigerant flow.” During the cooling operation, heat is removed from air taken in an indoor. Thus, cool air is exhausted from the indoor unit. Heat delivered from the indoor is exhausted to outdoor.
