INSIDE THIS ISSUE:
RESEARCH EQUIPMENT STOLEN ON FLAMING GORGE RESERVOIR
GREEN RIVER—Nets intended to catch burbot (a.k.a. ling) in Flaming Gorge Reservoir are disappearing
and the Wyoming Game & Fish Dept. is asking for the publics help in solving the mystery.
Green River Fisheries Supervisor Robb Keith said he learned of the disappearing nets from fisheries bi-
ologists with Utah Division of Wildlife Resources (UDWR).
"Since we learned burbot were illegally introduced into the Green River Drainage we have been work-
ing closely with UDWR to learn more about burbot in Flaming Gorge Reservoir," Keith said. "Part of these
efforts includes a Utah State University (USU) research project funded by UDWR studying the distribution
and biology of burbot in Flaming Gorge Reservoir."
"Cod traps are one of several different gear types being deployed to target burbot and evaluate
numbers, growth, food habits, habitat selection, etc. "Data collected during the university project and
through other sampling efforts by the cooperating agencies is critical to future management and control
efforts that will be designed to keep burbot in check so they do not disrupt the popular sport fisheries in
Flaming Gorge Reservoir."
"Unfortunately, so far this year, five cod traps intended to catch burbot have disappeared, they have
either been cut or stolen. The gear is essential to ongoing sampling efforts. UDWR and USU researchers
need the gear to complete the important research they are conducting. We are requesting the gear be
returned to either the Green River Regional office (351 Astle Avenue in Green River) or to the UDWR office
in Dutch John, UT. No questions will be asked."
Anglers may still encounter research gear, such as the cod traps, on the reservoir as the research is on
going. Keith is requesting that anglers don’t touch the gear and recommends to anglers that if the gear
looks suspicious, contact the nearest game warden and he/she will determine its legitimacy.
Anyone with information on the missing cod traps may call the Green River Game and Fish Office at
307-875-3223, the nearest game warden or UDWR at 1-800-662-DEER.

Dennis Edward Breer, 59, passed away Nov. 6, 2008. He was born March 1949 in Salina, Kan., to Bernard and Edna Glatz Breer. Dennis married Grace Miller, and for the last 22 years had lived in Dutch John.
Dennis loved the Green River and was so fa-miliar with the area that he became a fishing guide; he owned and operated Trout Creek
Flies. He loved flying and racing homing pi-geons. But his pride and joy was his family whom he loved very much. Dennis is survived by his wife, Grace; son, Terry
Loskoski of Agustas, S.C.; daughter, Melissa (Douglas) Roloson; brother, David (Terri) Breer of Colorado Springs, Colo.; sister, Bernadine Appo-
linaro of Washington; two grandchildren, Kelsey Marie and Dennis William Roloson; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Nov. 10 at the LDS
Chapel in Dutch John; visitation took place one hour prior to services at the chapel. Interment was in the Dutch John Cemetery under the di-
rection of the Blackburn Vernal Mortuary.

Flaming Gorge Quilt Retreat
Red Canyon Lodge hosted the 2nd Annual Flaming Gorge Quilt Retreat on November 7-9. The retreat was a great success and Red Canyon Lodge owner Mark Wilson and his employees made the weekend absolutely wonderful. The cabins were nice and cozy and the food was outstanding.
Everyone quilted from Friday afternoon until Sunday afternoon staying up till midnight Friday and Saturday nights. The quilters made many quilts over the weekend.
Please check upcoming newsletters to find out about he next re-treat that will be held in February.

Daggett County is still accepting ap-
plications for its affordable Housing
program. We currently have an ap-
proved application for our remaining
house, but it’s not too late to apply for
one of our last two lots. There are sev-
eral options for putting housing on that
lot, but time is running out on our
Down Payment assistance grant from
the Community Development Block
Brant (CDBG). The program is open to
anyone who will be a permanent resi-
dent of the county and meets the fed-
eral HUD (Housing and Urban Devel-
opment) low to moderate income
guidelines. These income guidelines
are based on the median income for
our area and the number of persons in
the household. Applications are
evaluated by the Uintah Basin Asso-
ciation of Governments. Contact
Brian at (435) 784-3218 ext. 134 for
more information or to get an applica-
tion.
