ABSTRACT
Introduction: Gingival hyperpigmentation is a common esthetical concern among patients
with gummy smile or excessive gingival display which is caused by excessive deposition of
melanin on basal and supra basal epithelium layer. To obtain an esthetic and healthy gingiva,
there are several depigmentation techniques which can be implemented. Case: compared
three gingival hyperpigmentation cases with different techniques of depigmentation.
Management: For the first patient, depigmentation is implemented using Er: YAG Laser.
For the second patient, it is using Nd: YAG Laser to remove the gingival hyperpigmentation,
and for the third patient, conventional depigmentation technique is implemented using high
speed diamond bur. Conclusion: There are several methods in performing treatment with
different tools, but in term of result, there is no significant differences. Each techniques has
its own advantages and disadvantages, therefore every cases has to be considered carefully
before commencing any depigmentation technique.

ABSTRACT
Introduction: Violence is the second largest cause of mandibular fractures, but is rare.
Ideally, the method of internal fixation open reduction (ORIF) is performed for mandibular
fracture cases. Mandibular fracture management with Closed reduction method can be
performed by dentists as a definitive treatment option after emergency treatment. Present the
mandibular fracture management with Closed Reduction method in cases due to violent
action. Case: Case 1: A 15-year-old boy who complained of not being able to close his
mouth properly from the past 3 days due to being hit on his left cheek, was diagnosed with
angular fracture and left mandibular condyle fracture. Mandibular fracture management
Closed Reduction Method with repositioning and fixation using Archbar, ligature rubber and
immobilization with Maxilla - Mandibula Fixation (MMF) performed for 8 weeks. Case 2:
A male patient aged 41 with a complaint that he could not close his mouth and gums due to
being hit on his chin and cheek 3 days ago, was diagnosed with a fracture of the left
mandibular ramus and ascending fracture. Closed Reduction method by repositioning and
fixation using Archbar, ligature rubber and wire and immobilized with Maxilla -Mandibula
Fixation (MMF) was performed for 12 weeks. Management: Treatment of mandibular
fracture starts from emergency treatment according to ATLS rules until the patient is stable,
then a complete history, physical examination and support are done to establish the diagnosis
and therapeutic plan. In the above cases the Closed Reduction Method was performed as a
treatment option due to the patient's condition and request. The Closed Reduction method
rebuilds a stable occlusion, recovery from the normal shape of the mandible and a
symmetrical face, then continues with normal physiological movements and functions.
Conclusion: Closed reduction management of mandibular fractures due to violence can be
done by dentists as a therapeutic option to restore normal occlusion and masticatory function.

ABSTRACT
Introduction: A dentigerous cyst is an odontogenic cyst that develop around the crown of
an unerupted or super- numerary tooth. Synonym of dentigerous cyst is follicular cyst. Case:
This cyst is one of Odontogen cysts and most found, which is around 14% -24% of jaw cysts,
for about 5% of all most developing around a mesiodens in the anterior maxilla.
Management: In panoramic Radiograph finding, the epicenter of a dentigerous cyst is found
just above the crown of the involved tooth, most commonly a mandibular or maxillary third
molar or a maxillary canine. This cyst attaches at the mesial to distal cementoenamel junction
involved teeth. Some dentigerous cysts developing from the lateral aspect of the follicle so
that they occupy an area beside the crown instead of above the crown. This case report aimed
to identify the characteristic of dentigerous cysts radiographically and their variations.
Conclusion: Three cases of Dentigerous cyst were reported in the patients of Kediri Pare
Hospital in 2017, with 2 of them not showing the radiographic characteristics of the cyst.

ABSTRACT
Introduction: Doctor-patient communication is one of the competencies that doctors must
possess that will determine the success of patient care. In the process of communication
between dentists and patients, the dentist will explore the patient's medical history and
convey information about the patient's condition. The process of obtaining information and
medical history of the patient is intended to make the diagnosis correctly so that the dentist
can plan a treatment for the patient. However, in reality there is often unbalanced
communication between doctors and patients so that communication between doctors and
patients becomes ineffective. The impact of effective communication between the dentist
and patient is there ara the same meaning as the information provided by the dentist during
treatment. Thus, patients will be able to understand and remember information, so that there
will also be changes in patient behavior and compliance so that the treatment that given by
dentist is being optimal. Purpose: to determine differences in information regarding
treatment plans submitted by dentists with those received by patients. Method: This type of
research is descriptive analytic with quantitative data retrieval using observation and
interview methods. The sample of this study was 33 patients with dental polyester at Malang
Asyiyah Hospital and Brawijaya University Hospital who met the sample inclusion criteria.
Result: The statistical method used was Mc Nemar test α = 0.05. Conclusion: Based on the
results of interviews conducted on 33 respondents, there was no significant difference
between the information regarding the treatment plan submitted by the dentist and those
received by the patient.

ABSTRACT
Introduction: Soft drinks are beverages that widely consumed by a lot of children.
According to previous studies conducted in 2012, as many as 65.7% of child respondents
admitted that they often consume sweetened soft drinks. Fruit Tea and Happy Jus are soft
drink’s brand that a lot of children liked. Purpose: to determine the effect of soft drinks on
the surface hardness of primary teeth’s enamel. Method: The sample used in this study were
27 primary teeth of the maxillary first incisors, the teeth was extracted and have no function
for the owner, the teeth are caries-free, with no anomalies, and did not have fillings. This
research is true experimental type research. The approach used in the study was a pretest-
posttest control group design. Result: This study showed that the frequency of immersion of
primary teeth in the Fruit Tea and Happy Jus does not affect the surface hardness of enamel
of primary teeth, the number of days immersing primary teeth in the Fruit Tea also does not
affect the surface hardness of enamel of primary teeth, but the number of days immersing
deciduous teeth in the soft drink brand Happy Jus have a significant effect in lowering the
surface hardness of enamel of primary teeth. Conclusions: It is necessary to further research
in some different point of time, and there should be further studies on the effect of deciduous
teeth soaking in soft drinks on the composition of elements and compounds of primary teeth

ABSTRACT
Introduction: Zinc Phosphate Cements (ZPC) is a medical cement that has a function as an
electrical and thermal insulating material, specifically in metal restoration application.
However, ZPC has several disadvantages, namely the potential to irritate the pulp and even
cause pulp necrosis due to the exothermic reaction and a low initial pH. With nano particle
size, it is suspected to be able to speed up the setting time so that it can reduce the weakness
of ZPC. However, it is necessary to test the characteristics in the form of X-Ray Diffraction
analysis for identification of phase and crystal structure of nano-ZPC. Method: Top-down
method was used to synthesize nano-ZPC with a Ring Mill tool (Siebtechnik, Germany).
XRD analysis was carried out on nano-ZPC material that had been made and as a
comparison, then it was also carried out on conventional ZPC. Result: Nano-ZPC had been
successfully made with an average ZPC particle size after being milled of 733.5 nm with the
smallest particle size of 627.6 nm. XRD analysis showed that there were no phase differences
in the two ZPC samples marked by the presence of three main peaks on the XRD chart.
Conventional ZPC had a crystallite size of 1318.527 Å while the crystallite at the nano ZPC
was115.0407 Å. In general, smaller crystallite size shows smaller particle size too.
Conclusion: The process of nanoparticle making does not change the phase in ZPC cement
preparation, but nano ZPC has a smaller crystallite size than conventional crystallite size.
Therefore, it can be followed up by other characterization analyzes of nano ZPC materials
so that the different properties that occur in conventional ZPC materials and nano ZPC can
be seen in order to obtain description and rationale for the advantages of nano ZPC
application compared with the conventional ZPC.

ABSTRACT
Introduction: The temporomandibular joint (TMJ) is a specialized joint between the
mandible and the temporal bone of the skull. Dislocation of the temporomandibular joint is
due to either imbalance in the neuromuscular function or structural deficit. Dislocation of
the temporomandibular joint accounts for three percent of all reported joint dislocation cases
and may occur for various reasons. Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to present serial
case management of temporomandibular joint dislocation in emergency unit and to provide
information on emergency handling in the case of temporo-mandibula joint especially for
dentist. Method: The data of temporomandibular joint dislocation cases were collected from
October 2016 to March 2017 with a cross sectional study presented by Oral and
Maxillofacial Resident in RSUD Dr. Soetomo Surabaya. Result: Nine patients were
managed. In total males accounted for 66,67% of the patients, and yawning was the most
frequent etiological factor. Acute TMJ dislocation had the highest frequency in this study.
The management conducted was giving muscle relaxant, manual repositioning and head
bandage. Manual reduction of TMJ dislocation can be divided into three approaches,
intraorally, extra orally and a combination between the two approaches; intraorally by using
Hippocrates’ technique and Wrist Pivot technique. The extraoral approach does not involve
fingers in the oral cavity. Applying these three approaches could be distinguished by clinical
examination and patient history. Conclusion: Temporomandibular joint dislocation is one
of the problem in dentistry that requires direct management and could cause complications
if immediate treatment is not given.

ABSTRACT
Introduction: Alginate is used as a dental impression. Dental impression of the patient’s
mouth could be a transmission agent of infection to dentist and dental technicians. As a
prevention of infection’s transmission, dental impression should be disinfected. Disinfection
of the impression with the immersion technique is an effective way to kill microorganisms
on the impression because the entire surface of the impression can be exposed to the
disinfectant. 100% infusion of Piper betle L can be used as disinfectant for alginate
impression because it’s ability to kill bacteria within 30 seconds of contact time. However
alginate has a low dimensional stability so it will be easy for it to have dimensional change
once it is soaked in a liquid for too long. Purpose: To know the effect of immersion times
100% infusion of Piper betle L as a disinfection to dimensional changes final impression
alginate mix with cassava starch. Method: This is an experimental laboratory study with
period time of immersion 30, 150, 270, 390, 510, and 630 seconds. Result: The data analysis
using simple linier regression shown that there were not significance in immersion times of
impression material in 100% infusion of Piper betle L to dimensional changed in gyps
models. Conclusion: The result of this study shown that there wasn’t any significant effect
of immersion times alginat impression mix with cassava strach towards dimensional

ABSTRACT
Introduction: Chronic periodontitis is an inflammatory disease caused by specific bacteria
in plaque and calculus that lead to an inflammatory response in gingiva and other
periodontal tissues. This condition is often characterized by clinical attachment loss, the
apparent formation of periodontal pockets and alveolar bone damage that can cause
pathological migration and even tooth mobility which can result in tooth loss. Case report:
a 41-year-old woman with chronic periodontitis came to RSGMP Unjani for periodontal
flap surgery. The surgery aimed to treat vertical alveolar bone damage on tooth 32, 33, 34,
as well as to perform a debridement process on a remaining 6mm – 7mm deep pocket
despites initial treatment (scaling and root planning). Case management: Using
periotome, the sulcular incision was performed on the cervical area around the tooth to
separate the soft tissue from the hard tissue. Flap retraction was done using raspatorium.
After that, the calculus deposit and granulation tissues were thoroughly cleaned using
curette, ultrasonic scaler and tissue scissors while the area was sequentially irrigated with
NaCl 0.9 % and H2O2 3% until it’s clean. Flap was finally sutured to its original place
using interrupted suture technique on the interdental area. Conclusion: Adequate etiology
elimination is key to a successful periodontal treatment. In this case, flap surgery was
performed for pocket debridement as well as root detoxification and vertical alveolar bone
damage. The surgery was expected to be able to reduce the depth of the pocket and gain
adequate gingival attachment area and facilitate regenerative process of periodontal tissues.

penerapan postur tubuh selama melakukan tindakan perawatan kedokteran gigi.

media pembelajaran keterampilan preparasi gigi.
permanen.

ABSTRACT
Introduction: Caries is the mouth disease that also found in hearing impaired
children, and the prevalence tend to higher than normal children due to inability of
hearing impaired children to capturing the information about dental health
education. Purpose: Therefore it needs effort to prevent it by dental health
education using animation method. Method: This research was pre research with
One Group Pretest Posttest Only Design. Total sample in this research was 29
students. Student was told to do pre test. After that student given dental health
education using animation method that consist of dental health and then they done
post test. Result: Correlation Pearson test showed significant score 0,000 that
means there was real relation (significant) between both variable that tested. Linear
Regression test showed significant score 0,000 and standard coefficient 0,922 that
means there was a significant and strong effect between dental health education
using animation method with dental health knowledge of hearing impaired children.
Conclusion: The conclusion was dental health education using animation method
had effect for dental health knowledge of hearing impaired children.
