DSSN Awards 2015

Another successful celebration of achievements occurred on Friday 10th July 2015. Nominations came in from 7 different schools, across

supported the evening as a representative from Sportspace—DSSN’s main sponsor. The winners for each category are listed below. Lets

hope next year we get more nominations across a broader range of schools.

Foundation Stage Mini Olympics

Once again this year we celebrated the legacy of the

Olympics with Foundation Stage pupils at both Hemel

Hempstead and Berkhamsted Sportspace on 19th June and

30th June respectively. The opening ceremony saw each

school wave their school flags and repeat the DSSN chant

as well as a visit from the Dacorum Dragon.

22 different schools took part in the 3 events and the top

3 were awarded Bronze, Silver and Gold certificates. Well

done to all who took part and a massive thank you to all the

leaders that helped out.

Rounders

This years Rounders league was entered by 12 teams.

3 pools were created with teams expected to play their

games before the Rounders tournament that took place

on Monday 10th July.

Congratulations to Bovingdon, The Reddings, and

Belswains for winning their leagues.

As mentioned the Rounders Tournament took place on

Monday 10th July at The Cavendish School. The rain

was not going to stop play and we moved onto the astro

turf to complete the tournament. 3 pools were organ-

ised with the winners of each pool plus the highest

rounder scoring runner up went through to the semi

finals. The final was a close fought game between

Bridgewater and Kings Langley with Kings Langley being

victorious by 1/2 a rounder. Well done to all who took

part and to all the parents for abiding by the fair play

charter.

Tri Golf

On Tuesday 19th May, Wednesday 20th

May and Friday 22nd May Ashlyns,

Cavendish and Longdean hosted the Year

3 Tri golf festival for 12 different

schools. Pupils worked as a

team at 8 different

stations showing off their putting and chipping skills.

Scores were collated at the end of the week and

Hobletts Manor Junior were awarded Dacorum

champions for 2015. Well done to all who took part.

Netball Tournament

This years netball tournament took place at The Cav-

endish School on Friday 8th May 2015. 20 teams took

part in 4 different pools to find the overall Dacorum

champion. Thankfully heavy rain held off this year and

the girls were able to

play some good net-

ball.

The final between

Bovingdon and Holts-

mere End Junior was a

close context. After

normal time the two

teams were drawn, so

extra time was played.

At the end of this they

were still drawn, so we

had to play the golden

goal rule. Bovingdon

were crowned overall

Dacorum champions for

2015.

Well done to all teams

for taking part this

year.

Speed Stacking

On Tuesday 12th May Bridgewater

and Cavendish played host to the

Year 4 Speed Stacking

Competition with Longdean

hosting on Wednesday 13th.

Only 8 teams took part in this

years competition competing

against each other in the 3-3-3

and 3-6-3 competition to find

the Dacorum champion to

represent us at the Herts

School Games finals in June.

The times from across the 3

venues were compared and

Kings Langley Primary were

crowned Dacorum champions

for 2015. Thank you to

Ashlyns, Cavendish and

Longdean for supplying the

leaders for the events.

Well don't to all who took part.

Saracens Year 3/4 Festival

On 7th May 2015 650 pupils from years 3 & 4 descended on Camelot

Rugby Club for the annual tournament supported by The

Saracens Foundation. Schools

had some training in the

morning delivered by coaches

from Saracens and leaders

from Kings Langley School.

The afternoon then saw two

competitions take place one

for year 3 and one for year 4.

After lots of matches, St

Thomas More were crowned

year 3 winners and South Hill

won the year 4 tournament.

Well done to all who took part

and a special thank you to

Kings Langley leaders and

Saracens for making the

event possible.

Jessica Stretton is selected for the GB Paralympic Team

Longdean School Year 10 student Jessica Stretton has been selected by Ar-

chery GB to represent Great Britain at the up and coming Dutch Paralympic In-

ternational tournament.

Jessica, who is just 15 years of age, suffers from cerebral palsy but has always

had a strong desire to be involved as many sports as possible. She started ar-

chery just 18 months ago and has since then has been on a whirlwind journey,

which included winning her first gold medal for Great Britain last year.

She recently took part in a selection shoot for the full GB team. This took place

in poor weather conditions with wind and rain but Jessica performed excellently

and was successful in her bid for a place.

Jessica will, therefore, this month travel with the squad to Holland for her full

international debut. She hopes that this will be the start of her journey to the

Epic Easter themed multi skills event: A great suc-

cess!

After the success of our yr3-4 Christmas themed

Multi Skills festival, delivered by Archie McFadyen

and Martha Woollett (the St. Pauls Bronze Ambassa-

dors) and some yr6 leaders, the decision was easy

when we were asked if we wanted to run an Easter

themed event for all of ks1.

We planned and organised 6 ‘egg-citing’ events includ-

ing bunny bounce and catch the egg which all the chil-

dren really enjoyed.

“You spoke really clearly and made it really interest-

ing,” said Eowyn in Year 1.

We learnt a lot about leadership and important values

from our last festival and tried to use all of these

things in the event.

Our team of yr6 helpers helped us to spot children

who showed values such as: Passion, Respect and Hon-

esty. It was challenging but we managed to do it! Soon

we will be giving out our Easter themed prizes in as-

sembly but it will be really hard to choose because

everyone’s a winner!

Reported by Martha Woollett, St Pauls

AfPE and SLUK Level 5 PE Subject Leader Qualification

Congratulations to our first cohort of delegates for achieving the Level 5 certificate in Primary PE Subject Specialism. They attended 6

training days and completed tasks in order to achieve the qualification. Some have now gone onto complete the Level 6.

A celebration evening was held in May at Herts Sports Village where Sue Wilkinson from AfPE came and handed out the certificates to del-

egates whilst some of their Head teachers watched and celebrated with them. Well done to all of you.

was a great day out in the sun. The day ended

with a final between Bridgewater and Greenway,

with Greenway winning all their games in the final.

Mixed Kwik Cricket

10 schools took part in the mixed kwik cricket at

Leverstock Green Cricket Club.

Although a windy day, there

were lots of happy faces about

the place. The final was a very

close game, with only 3 runs

difference between

Bridgewater and Leverstock

Green. Leverstock Green were

crowned district champions.

Girls Kwik Cricket

It was a very sunny day down at

Hemel Hempstead Cricket Club

teams playing in a round robin.

After winning all their games,

Leverstock Green won overall

and became district champions.

Here is a round up of the summer School Games events.

It was an eventful summer term, and I am pleased so many young people took part in these events.

Key Steps KS1 and KS2

Having gone through to the final without a competition in the past two years,

Leverstock Green finally had some competition. However, due to unforeseen

circumstances, the other schools dropped out, and Leverstock Green

automatically qualify for the Final and are crowned district champions once

again.

Dacorum School Games Level 2 Summer Term 2015

quicksticks. After the pools played the final commenced with Belswains

taking on Bridgewater. Both teams played tremendously well, but it was

Bridgewater who won.
