Abstract

This deliverable defines the main sections and characteristics of both the public website available at

http://www.proteus-bigdata.com/ and the administration tools for the private collaborative website of the

PROTEUS Project.

The main objective of this website is to give up-to-date information on the project development and host

relevant results and reports including news, public deliverables, research publications, dissemination material

and project events.

Interested parties will be able to contact with the partners of the PROTEUS consortium, to ask for further

information and to perform inquiries through the website.

1 Introduction

This deliverable defines the main sections and characteristics of the public website of PROTEUS, available

at [1]. A second site is used as the private collaborative Content Management System [2].

The main objective of the public website is to give up-to-date information on the project development and

host relevant results and reports including news, public deliverables, research publications, dissemination

material and project events.

Interested parties will be able to contact with the partners of the PROTEUS consortium, to ask for further

information and to perform inquiries through the website.

2 Website structure & contents

The website is structured in five different blocks (see Figure 1): navigation bar (1), header (2), body (3),

right-side menu (4), and acknowledgements (5). All the blocks are static except for the body, which shows

different information depending on the section

This sections includes subsections providing further details about four core aspects as contributions of the

project: the hybrid processing engine; scalable online machine learning; real-time interactive visual

analytics; and the industrial validation. The following sections detail each of these parts in the project

website.

2.2.1 Hybrid processing engine

This sections provide details about the hybrid processing engine to be provided as a result of PROTEUS, the

starting step of the solution is to provide the basis system architecture.

2.2.2 Scalable online machine learning

This section details the approach of PROTEUS to the field of scalable online machine learning techniques.

PROTEUS will contribute to the maturity of this field by designing and developing a library of Scalable

Online Machine Learning and Data Mining Algorithms (named SOLMA) adapted to the data analytics

platform, Apache Flink.

2.2.3 Real-time interactive visual analytics

PROTEUS will develop innovative solutions based on incremental visual methods that allow end-users to

explore both data-at-rest and data-in-motion efficiently to make well-informed decisions in real time. This

section in the website provides some details about the approach of the project to this subject.

2.2.4 Industrial validation

Finally, PROTEUS ensures the achievement of the project objectives following a user-defined challenges

driven strategy which focuses on rigorous experimental testing and industrial-validated processes.

PROTEUS is guided by the specific requirements, monitoring and improvement measurement of the

ArcelorMittal’s steelmaking process.

3 Technical information

The implementation of the project website has been done using a cloud host service, and an easy-to-use web

development graphical interface, Jimdo [3]. Jimdo is a WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) web

hosting service, operated by Jimdo GmbH, a Hamburg, Germany-based company.

By using this framework, the hosting is outsourced but kept under the EC jurisdiction. The web administrator

is the project coordinator, being in charge of managing the contents of the website. The website is

compatible with HTML5 and mobile browsers.

4 Conclusions

The PROTEUS project website was launched in December 2015, prior to the kick-off meeting that was held

on 21-22 January 2016. As a consequence all the partners had the chance to evaluate its design, performance

and contents in order to suggest any modifications and improvements, which were accomplished in the last

months before completing this deliverable.

The website, which is available at http://www.proteus-bigdata.com, consists of different public pages where

all the related information – description, news, events, partners, contact – is displayed. In addition to this, an

administrative tool allows the webmaster to update and add contents. Moreover, all the partners can access

the private content management system where official documents, reports, dissemination material and others

are stored.
