SAP Landscapes: Business Problem Analysis
• Start with the SAP Solution Explorer – http://www.sap.com/solutionexplorer
– SAP Solution Explorer help you focus on the core business
– SAP Solution Explorer provide a consistent, multi-level blueprint showing processes for an organization within a particular industry or cross-industry. The SAP Solution Explorer also show how various processes are covered, including the processes that SAP and its partners support. This content is available for about 50 industry segments and 10 cross-industry areas.
– SAP Business Scenario Maps provide a detailed view of end-to-end processes. They define the activities, roles, system interfaces, and even the business documents required for collaboration.
Result: List of required Business Components

What is a Business Component? A business component can be defined as the collection of the business activities it performs along with
its supporting people and systems requirements
Each business component
contributes/ provides measurable value
Each business component has
differentiated capabilities
Each business component defines and decides on the use of all resources needed to perform the defined activities
Business Services are goods or services that a business component offers to and uses from other business components and/or to external parties
Has discrete boundaries, defined by the business services that it offers and the business services it uses
Each business component has a governance structure within which it manages its activities

Model the environment
• Study the SAP Master Guides, available for all SAP Components – goto http://service.sap.com/instguides
• The Master Guide provides – An overview over all related software components, whether mandatory or optional
– Technical infrastructure examples illustrate how these components are distributed • It describes all activities in the planning step including
– Information on the versions of the required components
– Information on the overall installation sequence and subsequent steps
– References to related installation and configuration guides
– Information on dependencies between two or more components of the technical infrastructure
• Upgrade information is available in the Upgrade Master Guides
