OLDBUZZ-INESSHooray for Hollywood!

Letter from the EditorLetter from the Editor

Amid the bright lights and glimmering decorations, long, black limousines pulled up to the entrance, holding the guests of honor. On the ground lay red carpets for these people, and cameras fed a live view to large screens for the audience to scream at. The setting too was tailored to be grand; it was an amazing replica of what one would expect at a Hollywood event, like the Oscars, though of course, on a smaller scale. Everything had to be perfect for these guests. And no, they were not celebrities. No, the event was not for members of K.I.S.S., or for Johnny Depp, or for Batman and Catwoman (they were all impersonators anyway). All of this was for the kids at the Ability First Lawrence L. Frank Center in Pasadena, which works with teens and young adults with developmental disabilities. "Hooray for Hollywood," one of the center's largest events, celebrated these participants. They walked the red carpet, interacted with celebrity impersonators, and danced afterwards to a live band.

To mimic a real Hollywood experience, enthusiastic "fans" were needed to cheer them on. “We want each one of them to feel like a star as the staff, volunteers and the rest of the crowd focus our attention and adulation on them, since children and adults with disabilities seldom receive enough positive attention and feedback, which they deserve,” said Michael Barkyoumb, Director of Ability First Lawrence L. Frank Center. Here, Key Club stepped in. Members of D10 North applauded and screamed for the Ability First participants as they stepped out of the limousines and onto the red carpet. Every person received a warm welcome from Key Clubbers and other volunteers. Headed by Katie Chin, D10's LTG, the divisional event lasted for two hours. "The event is intended to make each and every participant feel like they are the stars," said Barkyoumb, and as Key Clubbers warmly cheered them on, they sure felt like it.

Jason Cai- Exuctive AssistantMy name is Jason Cai. I'm currently a sophomore at South Pasadena High School. I am very passionate about serving my community and meeting people from different places. I've been in Key Club since freshman year and it's one of the best decisions I've made in my high school career. Being in key club helps me to understand the pleasure of helping others. I will be serving as the Vice President for my school, and Executive Assistant for our division for next term. I'm very grateful for this once in a lifetime opportunity. I assure you next year would be fab like y'all. I am really excited to have so much fun with you

all. Make sure to come to the Division Banquet on May 30th! I can't wait to meet you all there! Shout out to all the key clubbers!

Brittany Phan- SecretaryHello D10 North! My name is Brittany Phan and I look forward to being your secretary for the upcoming term. A little bit about myself: I love to read (fiction books only) and my favorite food is PIZZA (especially with pineapple on it). I do not like squash and my parents won’t let me get a smart phone until I reach 100 community service hours But I am almost there! I know this next year will be GREAT because our passion to provide service and build character will lead us on the road to success. I hope to get to know every one of you guys in the upcoming year, especially at the D10N Banquet!

DIVISION Caroline Bescoby- News Editor

Annette Guan- Tech EditorHi Division 10 North! My name is Annette Guan, and I’ll to be serving as one of two Division Tech Editors for the 2015-2016 Term. This is going to be my first year on the Division Leadership Team, so I’m excited to see what the future will bring and I can’t wait to work with my fellow DLT members. For those of you who don’t know me, here are some facts about myself: I have an adorably derpy Golden Shepherd named Brownie, I am notorious for

being unable to open doors, I like to drink hot chocolate during rainy days, and I love Animal Crossing. I hope to befriend everyone in D10N, and I want to know more about all of you!

GET TO KNOW THE DIVISION LEADERSHIP TEAM I could put a good bet that most of you know me by now, but if you don’t, hi I’m Caroline and I am your 2015-2016 News Editor. Last term I served as your Division Spirit Coordinator and had a blast cheering my heart out with y’all. I truly hope that I can keep you guys informed and in the loop through my monthly newsletters, and maybe even inspire some of you to fire up that passion for service that I KNOW all of you have within you! This is going to be a great year, and I am very excited to see all of you soon- hopefully at the D10N banquet.

To the new DLT: THANK YOU. I cannot say it enough to you all even though this term has just begun. I honestly cannot wait to work with you all and get stressed and all of that. I know we will have fun too! I am so grateful to have

you all by my side this term and I hope we can all make some hilarious memories together!

GET TO KNOW THE

Ian Han- Spirit CoordinatorHey guys! I’m Ian Han and I am one of your two new Division Spirit Coordinators! I was born on November 2, 2000 in Alhambra, California. My zodiac sign is the Scorpio. I currently live in Alhambra, however I attend school at San Marino High School. I am currently a freshman. My favorite color is the color of the sunset: orange. Along with the color orange, I also enjoy the colors blue and red. Some things I love are

waterpolo, food, and sleep! Who doesn’t love food? Its only one of the essentials in life. I like to think of myself as the athletic type. I play waterpolo year round and swim only in the spring season. In addition to sports, I am also a marching band and drumline member! In the fall, I play the alto saxophone. In the winter, I play pretty much anything. The past winter season, I played auxiliary, meanwhile this upcoming winter season, I will be auditioning for the cymbal line. That’s all you need to know about me but if you want to know more, feel free to ask me! I am very friendly and open to making new friends!

A letter to the Division Leadership Team: by Katie Chin

Kaitlyn Gonzalez-Castell- Spirit CoordinatorI am ecstatic to be the new spirit coordinator for our district and cannot wait to work with my counterpart. I would also like to note that I know that Stern Mass is a bit further than the rest of the schools in our district and I am glad to be closing this gap. I cannot wait to see what the future holds for all key club members in our district.

NINJA TURTLESUMMER PLANS

We asked you: What are you most looking

forward to this Summer?

I look forward to the Summer School class and SAT prep because I'd like to be able to relax knowing that I'll have an advantage

when entering Junior year. In addition, I look forward to the sunny beaches and cool drinks of

summer, where relaxation is a must have. -Richard Li, SMHS 10

Region 13 Beach Clean-up (since I didn't get to go last year) and meeting new members!

-Christina Chen, TCHS 10

What I am looking forward to this summer is bandcamp because I already know our show and I have a high chance in becoming our band's

Assistant Conductor.-Jasmine Lee, TCHS 10

Since summer is approaching, I'm looking forward to my summer internship the most. My summer

internship will be in Beijing, where I take pictures and help doing layouts

for a newspaper publication.-Shuwei Wang, SPHS 11

Well I'm visiting my homeland (Taiwan) so it counts as a vacation, I would like to

spend more time with my family, go to beach with friends and get sunburnt, sleep as much as I want, read fiction that has nothing to do with school, throw a party, play video games all night, play with my baby cousin, go to a

basketball game, and HAVE FUN!!-Tim Li, SPHS 10
