THE NEED TO WORSHIP
• Worship = reverence, adoration, obeisance.
• Man is to worship God.– Matthew 4:10
• Acts of faith in accordance with God’s instructions.– Genesis 22:5
THE NEED TO WORSHIP
• In congregational assembly of Christians.– Hebrews 10:24,25– 1 Corinthians 11:18
• Some acts of worship can be done by individuals at other times. – Acts 16:25
• There are defined times to gather for worship, in addition to our daily service to God. – Acts 20:7
IN SPIRIT AND IN TRUTH
“But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true
worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking
such to worship Him. God is Spirit, and those who
worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.“ (John
4:23,24)
IN SPIRIT AND IN TRUTH
• Jesus contrasted the past with a present change. – John 4:19-23
• There’s more here than just the “right attitude and right way.”– Joshua 24:14– 1 Samuel 12:24
• Difference in nature of worship (spiritual) and revealed truth (in Christ, not Law).

• Worship is an expression of fellowship with God and each other.– 1 Corinthians 10:16,17
• Fellowship = relationship in which sharing and joint participation are possible.– Congregation

FELLOWSHIP WITH GOD
AND THE BRETHREN• Fellowship with God is
based on loving Christ and keeping His commandments.– John 14:21-24– 1 John 1:1-7; 2:5,6
• Fellowship with one another is based on our common fellowship with God.– 1 Corinthians 1:9,10
FELLOWSHIP WITH GOD
AND BRETHREN• There can be no fellowship
when there is not common belief and obedience.– 2 John 9-11
• Some differences among brethren should not affect fellowship.– Studying God’s word will
help us discern the difference.
Concluding Thoughts
• Fellowship with God is affected by how we worship Him.
• We must “bear the fruit of the Spirit.”– Galatians 5:22,23
• We must have no fellowship with the “unfruitful works of darkness.”– Ephesians 5:1-11
