Where Cyprus is located

• Cyprus is located in the Middle East, Asia.

• It is an island in the Mediterranean.

• South of Turkey. West of Syria and Lebanon. Israel to the southeast, Egypt to the south, and Greece to the west-north-west.

Geographic Features of Cyprus

• In Cyprus you can find important geographic features like:

• Mediterranean Sea.• There are the Kyrenia

and Pentadactylos mountains. But the most important mountain range is the Troödos mountain range.

Climate of Cyprus

• The climate of Cyprus is temperate and Mediterranean.

• It has dry summers and rainy winters.

• In the lowlands it is very hot in the summer but in the winter it snows rarely.

• In the mountains it is not as warm in the summer but it snows a lot in the winter.

Environment of Cyprus•There is approximately 1,800 different species of plants. 125 different species and subspecies are endemic. •The first arrivals of animals where the elephants and hippopotami.•Now there is about 7 species of land mammals, 26 species of amphibians and reptiles, 357 species of birds, a great variety of insects and mites, while the coastal waters of the island give shelter to 197 fish species.•It is famous for birds. They have birds such as: The Chukar, Black Francolin, The Black Cap, Elenora’s Falcon and the Magpie.

The Romans beat the Egyptians and it got annexed by Rome..

The Ottoman Empire attacked Cyprus at will and after a long war they took over it.

Cyprus got annexed by Britain after 300 years of the Ottoman Empire

Cyprus gains its independence after many years.

The Turkish Cypriots establish independent administration in part of Cyprus after a war.

Cyprus becomes one of the 10 new states in the EU.

The Greek and Turkish Cypriots demolish barriers that divide the old city of Nicosia.

Customs and Traditions• There are some Sunni

Muslims and Greek Orthodox Christians. They celebrate many religious traditions such as: Ramadan, Christmas, Eid, Easter and so on. The Christians celebrate it according to the Greek Orthodox rules.

• They also have many musical and dance festivals like they have in Greece.

• Many folk traditions, such as the Carnival and Kataklysmos (Festival of the Flood) have ancient themes.

• There is also a Wine Festival that takes place in Lemesos.

Government of Cyprus

• Cyprus is a member of the European Union it is a republic government.

• There are two different parts of Cyprus: Turkish Cypriot and Greek Cypriot. They both have independent executives, legislatives, and judicial branches .

• Greek Cypriot: President is Archbishop Makarios III.

• Turkish Cypriot: President is Tassos Papadopoulos. President Tassos Papadopoulos

Economy of Cyprus

• They have many agriculture exports such as: citrus, grapes, olives… etc.

• They also have things like: Tourism, cement and gypsum production, ship repair and refurbishment…etc.

• Thos are the main economic features that Cyprus has.

• People work in all of these factories and shops to get the money to get the needs for themselves and their families.

• There are also many farmers in Cyprus.

Tourism in Cyprus

• The main interest of Cyprus is that it is an island. It also has many beautiful beaches that people from all around the world come to visit. It is known that the Mediterranean sea around Cyprus is very clear and clean. It is an outstanding site.

• They also have some of the greatest hotels in Cyprus.

Economy of Cyprus

Cyprus has a great economy filled with agricultural resources such as fruits and vegetables. One Global Awareness aspect of Economy is tourism. They use it as a way of bringing a lot of money into the country. Tourism is important because it brings in money to the government and using that money they make more attractions for these tourists and they also use it to help their society. IT brings in this money because when people by the tickets of the flight, the hotel rooms, restaurants, city tours…etc. all these things being in money to the society and government. Because Cyprus is in the Mediterranean and it is an island, it attracts many different types of tourists to it. As you can see Tourism is very important to the countries Economy.

Politics of Cyprus

Politics is also a very important aspect in Cyprus. A Global Awareness aspect of Politics is the Turkish invasion. Because of the invasionthey now have two different parts of Cyprus: Turkish Cypriot and Greek Cypriot. This has affected the country in many ways, especially their government and politics. It affected the government because now there are two different Presidents and two different laws. It affected the politics because it has brought trouble between these two sides and many wars. As you can see the Turkish invasion is a very important aspect of the politics of Cyprus

Social Cyprus

When it comes to the religion in Cyprus there aren’t many different types. An aspect of Global Awareness for the social is that the majority is Greek Orthodox Christians. The rest are Sunni Muslims. This is an important aspect because unlike other Middle Eastern countries, religion has not affected Cyprus in many ways. The people in Cyprus get along very well despite the different religions. In Cyprus the celebrate the usual Christian and Muslim celebrations such as: Christmas, Ramadan, Eid, Easter…etc. As you can see, the religion of Cyprus does not affect it unlike other Middle Eastern countries.

Global Awareness

• This power-point ties into Global Awareness in many ways. Because I wrote all this I am teaching my fellow classmates about Cyprus and its Culture and Traditions. Now they have a better idea of how the world around us is.
