Daylight Block

Skylights and glass floors channel light into the lower levels of the archive. daylight from the north enters the workshop, while diffuse daylight from the south is funneled into the lower exhibtion space and atrium. Skylights create lightfilled spaces amongst monolithic walls. The archive is spatially organized to allow interesting moments and views throughout the archive.

Site: 48-50 McCaul Street, Toronto, ON

Treetop Residence

Circular floor plan and fully glazed facade provide 360 degree views of the valley, creek and forest marsh setting. Occupants control floor to ceiling blinds on tracks that provide shade and privacy where desired. Operable windows encircle the modestly sized living space to allow for fresh air ventilation, and greater experience of forest surrounding.

12 BUILDING CONSTRUCTION 2011IA

Dragonfly on Helmken

This suspended viewing platform design is inspired by the beauty and structural efficiency of the dragonfly wing. The seemingly flat surface of the dragonfly wing is actually strengthened through curvature and a high level of corrugation. Furthermore, the delicate form of a dragonfly wing fittingly suggests lift and flight. Extending 10 m out from the cliff side, the boomerang-shaped deck provides breathtaking panoramas of Helmcken falls.
