SAMANTHA:We just arrived from the refugee ship and--

CYBERMAN:You must be taken to the processing centre.

BARNABY: INTERNAL MONOLOGUEIts eyes, blank. How can this thingve been a humanbeing? What are Karen and Hunt doing? I dont understand

why shed do this. Turn people into these... things! Itsnot what Karen-- Shed never condone--

(FX/WILDTRACK: DOORS SLIDE OPEN. IDLE OR FRIGHTENEDHUBBUB. COUGHING. TRANSPORT SHIPS LANDING AND TAKING OFF)

BARNABY: INTERNAL MONOLOGUEThis must be the processing centre. Thousands of people.Crowds stretching as far as I can see, right across theisland. Transport ships delivering, departing. And werein a long line. Heading towards the Southern Coast.Thousands of us. My mind is reeling.

SAMANTHA:Theyre taking us to the Cybership.

BARNABY: INTERNAL MONOLOGUEI hate her. Shes everything I want to see defeated,dead. But why would she lie about this? She saved mylife... Shes the only one whos given me the informationI need. I have to find out the truth about whats goingon here.

CYBERMAN:Enter the elevator. There is nothing to fear.

(FX: DOORS SLIDE OPEN. SLIDE SHUT, THE ELEVATOR DESCENDS)

CYBERMAN:

SAMANTHA:Then you believe me..?

BARNABY:I dont... I dont know what to believe. But weve gottoget out of here.

SAMANTHA:I think its too late for that.

BARNABY: INTERNAL MONOLOGUEIts too late. Its too late. I make one attempt toescape, but a Cyberman bars my way. Like a wall. I lookinto its empty eyes, and I feel, I know, it will kill me

(GATHERING HIS COURAGE) There is nothing to fear. Justone last glimpse of Samanthas face. I cant make out herexpression. Is she afraid? Is she trying to tell mesomething..? Was that... a smile? MAN:Paul Hunt has broke out of his processing unit.

CYBERPLANNER:

His mind is strong. That is why he must belong to us.

(FX: INFORMATION INCOMING)

MAN:He has entered the Scorpius base. And hes heading forthe Communications Centre.

CYBERPLANNER:He will attempt to warn President Levinson. (FX: COMMS)Priority command: all Cybermen will move to intercept andimmobilise Paul Hunt. (FX: END COMMS)

CYBERMAN:You will come with us. (FX: ADVANCES)

PAUL HUNT:Keep away from me! No! NO--!

CYBERPLANNER:Paul Hunt; your mental processing will now bestrengthened.

PAUL HUNT:I-I have stopped you. I dont care what you do to me now.Youre finished! I got the message through.

CYBERPLANNER:As we anticipated.

PAUL HUNT:What?

CYBERPLANNER:President Levinson has no logic. It had become clear thathe would never be convinced. He must now believe theScorpius Project is terminated. He will be replaced.

PAUL HUNT:Replaced?You-you cant just replace the President ofEarth.

CYBERPLANNER:You will arrange it.

PAUL HUNT:Arra--? Are you seriously expecting me to--

CYBERPLANNER:With augmented physical and mental Cyberprocessing, youwill find strength of purpose.

PAUL HUNT:Ive overcome your processing once. Ill do it again!

CYBERPLANNER:That will not be possible. Your resistance has now beenfully tested. Once processed you will wish only to serveus.

PAUL HUNT:Never! Youll have to turn me into a Cyberman. And Imnot going to be much use to you as an undercover agent

with pipes and tubes sticking out of me.

CYBERPLANNER:Full Cyberconversion is not yet necessary. You will beour transitional creature. The vital link betweenhumanitys emotional chaos and the calm that is to come.

PAUL HUNT:(SCOFFING) Calm?

CYBERPLANNER:You will be the perfect hybrid. The facilitator who willbring about the conversion of the Human Race.

PAUL HUNT:No. I wont do it. You cant make me--! Ill resist you--Ill fight you-- Ill-- Ill never help you! Ill diefirst!

CYBERPLANNER:You will not die. You will belong to us.

PAUL HUNT:

KAREN:Then tell me about Scorpius?

CYBERCONTROLLER:Scorpius is a strategy that will defeat the androids inOrion.

KAREN:By turning human beings into Cybermen?

CYBERCONTROLLER:All that is needed is a small force to make surgicalstrikes on key android installations.

CYBERLEADER:

Cyberleader to Control: Earth atmosphere escape velocityachieved.

CYBERPLANNER:(FX: OVER COMMS) Acknowledged. Hyperdrive co-ordinatesnow being transmitted to your ships computer core. (FX:COMMS OFF)

CYBERLEADER:Hyperdrive will be engaged beyond Jupiter path.

CYBERPLANNER:

(FX: OVER COMMS) Agreed.

LATER:

CYBERMAN 1:Now passing Martian Orbital Path.

CYBERLEADER:Prepare Hyperdrive engines for activation.

CYBERMAN 2:Hyperdrive engine power on.

CYBERLEADER:Verify co-ordinates for Hyperjump.

CYBERMAN 1:Verify.

LATER:

CYBERMAN 1:Now approaching Jupiter Orbital Path.

CYBERLEADER:

Hyperdrive co-ordinates verification is complete.Activate Hyperdrive.

CYBERMAN 2:Activated.

CYBERLEADER:Power to maximum.

CYBERMAN 1:Maximum set.

CYBERLEADER:Prepare to engage Hyperdrive thrust.

(FX: A BELL TOLLS, CARS MOVE AROUND, PEOPLE WHISPERING, ACHILD CRIES.)

CYBERMEN:

We are here to protect you. There is nothing to fear.

INT. SCORPIUS BASE, COMMAND MODULE

(FX: PAUL TELEPORTS IN)

PAUL HUNT:Are we certain?

CYBERPLANNER:

The Refugee Transport Ship made the jump into Hyperspaceon schedule. But it has not arrived at its destination.

PAUL HUNT:Maybe there was a mistake with the co-ordinates..?

CYBERPLANNER:There were not mistakes. The co-ordinates weretransmitted from here and verified.

PAUL HUNT:Then where the hell are they?

CYBERMAN 1:These co-ordinates are not recognised.

CYBERLEADER:

These co-ordinates have been altered at computer corelevel - sabotage. Scan star chart database. Identify ourlocation.

CYBERMAN 2:Scanning now.

(FX: COMPUTER SCANS. A SHRILL BEEPING NOISE OVER ANOTHERCOMPUTER. SCANNING FADES AWAY, BEEPING REFINES TO AMORSE-CODE LIKE SIGNAL THAT PLAYS THROUGHOUT SCENE.)

CYBERLEADER:

What is that?

CYBERMAN 1:A coded transmission.

CYBERLEADER:What is its source?

CYBERMAN 2:An escape pod.

CYBERLEADER:(FX: CHECKS ON COMPUTER) An escape pod has beenjettisoned from this ship. It must contain the saboteurs.Manoeuvre to pursue it and decode that signal.

CYBERMAN 2:

(FX: OVER COMMS, TO ESCAPE POD) Escape pod will ceasetransmissions immediately. (FX: COMMS OFF)

CYBERMAN 1:Current co-ordinates calculated.

CYBERLEADER:These co-ordinates place us in a heavily defended area of

Orion Android Space. This is an Earth-ship. Androidforces will fire upon us. Reprogram Hyperdrive for jumpto Earth-Empire space.

(FX: CYBERMEN BEGIN PROGRAMMING. ERROR.)

CYBERMAN 2:Computer core not responding.

CYBERLEADER:Further sabotage by the humans in the escape pod. But howis this possible? They were undergoing the first stages

of Cyberconversion. Has their transmission been decoded?

CYBERMAN 2:(FX: DECODING) Decoding continues. (FX: DECODINGFINISHES) Decoding completed.

CYBERLEADER:(FX: READING TRANSMISSION) An unknown callsign followed

by co-ordinates giving this position. They are callingfor assistance. (FX: CLOSING TRANSMISSION) ContactCybercontrol for instructions.

CYBERMAN 1:(FX: CHECKING TRANSMISSIONS) Signal delay at thisdistance... thirty minutes.

CYBERLEADER:Transmit position and situation report immediately.Manoeuver to intercept escape pod. The saboteurs must beretrieved for Cyberconversion.

(FX: THEY FIRE AT THE ESCAPE POD)

CYBERMAN 2:(FX: OVER COMMS, TO ESCAPE POD) Cease transmission andprepare enter docking bay. (FX: COMMS OFF)

(FX: ANOTHER SHOT FIRED)

CYBERMAN 1:Android Ship approaching.

ANDROID PATROL:(FX: OVER COMMS) This is Patrol Vessel nine-nine-zero.You are in Android Space and will surrender your shipimmediately. (FX: COMMS OFF)

CYBERMAN 1:They are retrieving the escape pod.

CYBERLEADER:Their firepower is superior. If we engage them, we willbe destroyed. We require instructions from Cybercontrol.

CYBERMAN 2:

Calculations indicate our signal will be reachingCybercontrol now.

CYBERPLANNER:(FX: RECEIVING SIGNAL) They are in Android Space.

PAUL HUNT:

What? How the hell did that happen?

CYBERPLANNER:Two of the humans on board reset the Hyperdrive co-ordinates.

PAUL HUNT:How is that possible? The humans on those ships arevirtually comatose.

CYBERPLANNER:No information. But it has happened. The humans have left

the ship in an escape pod.

PAUL HUNT:Theres no way a human could overcome the NeuralDampening.

CYBERPLANNER:The only logical explanation is that a non-humanoid waspresent.

PAUL HUNT:...an android..? It mustve been an android agent. Thats

why theyve ended up in Android Space. Its the onlyexplanation.

CYBERPLANNER:Agreed. It is logical.

PAUL HUNT:We cant risk the androids finding out about our plan...Not yet.

CYBERPLANNER:Agreed. I am transmitting a priority command for self-destruct.

CYBERMAN 2:Scanning

CYBERMAN 1:Scan incomplete.

CYBERLEADER:Signals are being blocked by jamming transmissions fromthe Android Ship. We will be unable to receiveinstructions from Cybercontrol. We must determine anindependent course of action based on our commandimperatives.

(FX: SIGNAL INCOMING)

CYBERLEADER:What is that?

CYBERMAN 1:Energy discharge detected.

CYBERLEADER:Identify energy discharge.

CYBERMAN 2:Energy discharge identified.

CYBERLEADER:(FX: READING REPORT) Probic energy. Logical conclusion:androids have transmatted aboard this ship. Alert allCybermen.

(FX: ALERT ISSUED)

CYBERMAN 3:(FX: OVER COMMS, FROM MAIN SHIP) Androids have retreated.

CYBERLEADER:We are outnumbered. They are intelligent. Logic dictatesthat they will find a way to capture this ship. We mustprevent disclosure of our plans. Initiate ship self-destruct procedures.

CYBERMAN 2:Initiating...

(FX: ELECTRICAL FIZZING. ALL CYBERMEN SHOCKED)

CYBERLEADER:

(STRUGGLING TO MAINTAIN CONTROL) What is happening?(SCREAMS) (FX: FIZZING DIES OUT. CYBERMEN INCAPACITATED)

CYBERPLANNER:There has been no response from the Transport Ship.

PAUL HUNT:

We cant afford to simply assume theyve received theorder and destroyed themselves.

CYBERPLANNER:Agreed. It is a logical precaution to proceed on theassumption that the androids have extracted informationfrom the Cybermen on the ship.

PAUL HUNT:You mean... we have to bring the whole plan forward?Therell be too many risks--

CYBERPLANNER:The approval ratings for President Karen Brett have risensignificantly since she delivered her speech.

PAUL HUNT:Well, yes, thats true, but--

CYBERPLANNER:Then now she will deliver another speech.

PAUL HUNT:I understand.

CYBERPLANNER:Cyberprocessing on this ship must be increased to maximumlevels. A large assault force of Cybermen must beassembled. The next phase begins now.

LATER:

CYBERPLANNER:Your Cyberprocessing is almost complete. You will now

make one last broadcast. Our minds are linked. You willspeak my words.

PAUL HUNT:The communications link is prepared.

CYBERPLANNER:Commence broadcast.
