Abstract and Concept Artwork

You are going to plan and create a 2-dimensional work of art that conveys a meaning related to the following themes:

- Human rights- Environmental Justice- Education- Animal Rights- The Promotion of Multiculturalism

The artwork will be Conceptual and feature some degree of Abstraction.

You will then write a short reflection on your artwork.Rubric

Abstract Art: Abstract art does not accurately represent reality – it is the opposite of realistic artworks, especially most types of photography.

Abstract art can be thought of as existing on a spectrum ranging from a realistic photograph to a red square painted in the middle of a canvas.

The pictures below are examples of abstract art. The one in the middle is the least abstract of the three.

Conceptual Art: Conceptual art is a form of art which emphasizes an idea or concept (e.g. time, freedom, animal rights).

Below are some examples of artworks which emphasize an idea or concept.

I illustrated that education can help you see the world differently. For example, imagine if you only………I showed that education can help you see the world differently by using the shape of an eye at the top of the pointing and……I also lightened part of the picture to show how the person being educated now sees a part of the world that before was hidden.

I further showed how education could be dangerous – it can make a person believe that there is only one ‘true’ or necessary way of viewing the world. This is also shown by placing the eye at the top which conveys the meaning that……An obvious example from history would be the ‘education’ delivered at the residential schools in Canada.
