JUNE 1315, 2016 P.O. Box HM 824, Hamilton HM CX, Bermuda Cyber risk, ILS, oil & gas, LatAm: hot topics for this year’s Bermuda Captive Conference Hamilton, Bermuda, January 15, 2015 — Industry hot topics like cyber risk, energy trends, collateralised reinsurance, Canada and Latin American opportunities are among the hot topics shaping up for this year’s Bermuda Captive Conference June 13–15. The 2016 conference promises captive owners, risk managers and insurance professionals a robust, extensive agenda offering expert insights into current developments that impact the captive insurance market. Expected to attract more than 700 delegates, it will also deliver a broader view on insurance industry topics, emerging issues, and global risk perspectives—plus offer opportunities to network with industry specialists and peers. “Our speakers and panelists will be discussing topical and emerging issues such as cyber risk, oil and gas risk, Canada, Latin America, insurance-linked securities, taxation treatments, legal issues, and recent claims and investment trends,” said Conference Chair David Gibbons, managing director at PwC Bermuda. Bermuda is the top global captive jurisdiction, home to 800 captive insurance companies, supporting primarily Fortune 500 corporations in the US, and generating over $48 billion in annual gross written premiums in 2014. Notably, Bermuda-based captives support an estimated 25 percent of the American medical insurance and reinsurance market, and a growing number have originated from Canada and Latin America in recent years. “We plan to capitalise on these trends with a compelling agenda that will attract, educate and engage delegates at this year’s event,” said Gibbons. Other 2016 agenda highlights include: Keynote speaker Joe Flowers, a leading international expert in healthcare, genomics and biotech. Joe will explore the future of healthcare and the impact of technology, pharmaceuticals and diagnostic techniques Insurance and reinsurance industry views on the impact of climate change and the evolving nature of catastrophe events and losses Sessions on how to use captives for global employee benefits, including post-retirement benefits (pensions/retiree medical), providing financial advantages and efficiencies to parent companies
