What was significant about this was the sheer number of buyers who were looking for a large quality family home, and ready to leap into action to secure an early advantage.
The next five to six weeks leading into Christmas are traditionally one of the busiest times of year for sales activity, and we expect this year to be no exception. We have a number of quality buyers in our orbit, who are looking to secure their next dream home, with the settlement date in mid to late January.
It is not too late for sellers to take advantage of this late Spring rush, but you will need to act quickly so we can have a quality marketing campaign underway before buyers switch into holiday mode. The festive season will swing into action with the much-anticipated ‘Deck the Halls’ garden party at Cottesloe’s historic Wanslea house on November 29. The Christmas-themed sundowner will be hosted by Michael Mischin, WA’s Attorney General and Minister of Commerce, with live entertainment from local musicians.
Festive photo booths, cocktail food and drinks will capture the Christmas mood, and Santa Claus is making a special trip from the North Pole. All funds raised go to Cancer Support WA. Caporn Young Estate Agents are proud to be supporting the event as a key sponsor, and will also auction several charity items on the day, including luxurious weekends away, art photography by Tony Hewitt, gourmet food and special wines.
Deck the Halls, which will take place 4pm to 7pm, is also an opportunity to enjoy 110-year-old Wanslea, which has undergone an award-winning $8million restoration, funded by Lotterywest grants. Built as an orphanage by the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, the Railway Street building was used as a convalescent home for returned servicemen in World War II before being vested to the National Trust of Australia.
Works on the grand redbrick Federation were completed in October 2014, and the property is now home to Cancer Support WA, as well as Breast Cancer Care WA, MelanomaWA and the Brady Cancer Support Foundation.
Cancer Support WA chief executive Mandy Becker-Knox says generous sponsorship from local businesses means that every dollar from ticket sales and fundraising on the day will go directly into the services her organisation offers. One of its key initiatives is a 24/7 phone line, manned by Masters-qualified counsellors who specialise in the psychological effects of the cancer journey.
“Our charitable mission is to ensure that everyone in WA has free and immediate access to cancer support, including both individual and family counselling,” Mandy explains. “We help people through a time when their world has been turned upside down.
“Christmas can be an extremely difficult time for those on the cancer journey, yet it is a time when many support services are not available. Our counsellors are on hand throughout the holiday period.”
Cancer Support WA also distributes care packs to patients who are newly diagnosed with cancer. Each pack is worth around $300 and includes a silk scarf, magazines and a meditation CD, as well as resources to help a person come to terms with their diagnosis.
In addition, the organisation runs holistic wellbeing workshops, as well as educational programmes in schools, designed to reduce risk factors that can lead to cancer.
Tickets for ‘Deck the Halls’ are $50 each (or $25 for a child, $125 for a family) and can be purchased at www.cancersupportwa.org.au/deck.
