established in 1916 by the then Bombay Presidency as a "Special lrrig(lliol'!' Cell" with a

resources, CWPRS became the principal centralagency to' cater to the R&D needs ofprojects

in the fields o fw aterand energ y r e s o u r c e s development and water-borne transport. Today,

CWPR S , apart of the UnionM i'listr), o[Wcll ,er Resources, is one of theforemost organ isations

in the world in the field of hydraulics cmd'allied research. CWPRS provides specialised

se.n ices through physical and mathematical model studies in river trainingand floodcontrol,

hydraulic structures. harbours, coastal protection. foundation engineering, construction

materials, pumps and turbines, ship ,h) drodynamics, hydraulic de !;ign of bridges,

envtronmensalstudies, earti: sciences, tmd cooling water intakes. The studies conducted by

CWPRS a re able 10 PrQll. ide Ii 'dmulically sound and economically viable solutions to various

problems associated with projects on }'I"aterresources, energy an,( / water-borne transport
