Opened in 1874, this Grade II listed park is of special historic interest. It retains many original Victorian features that inspired Dylan’s internationally renowned poems - ‘The Hunchback in the Park’ and ‘Once it was the colour of saying’. However, the park at present is a shadow of its former glory. THANK YOU for your ideas and views that have helped us achieve a SUCCESSFUL first round Heritage Lottery Fund ‘Parks for People’ application. Cwmdonkin Park has been awarded a Development grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund to develop a detailed master-plan (RIBA Stage E). This will form the Round Two competitive bid in September 2010. If successful at Round Two, the Heritage Lottery Funding will restore, conserve and breathe new life into Dylan Thomas’ inspirational park to celebrate the 2014 centenary of Swansea’s famous poet.
