EBEC

The local round of EBEC took place in Aachen on 6th (Case Study) and 9th (Team Design) November, 2015. More than 80 participants took part in both the events combined. The case study was about topic of ‘Blockchain’ and organised in a simultaneous event at Mi-lan, Torino, Karlsruhe and Aachen. In team design, the teams were tasked with creating a suspension bridge. The events turned out to be a success as participants and companies provided positive feedback and asked for fu-ture opportunities.

PM Flanders & Full Membership

It already starts to look like a distant past but PM was only two months back where LBG Aachen applied and accepted for full membership. The celebrations went on for the coming weeks from PM Flanders to Aachen, South Africa, India and beyond :P LBG Aachen would like to thank once again to all the RAs and LBGs for all their support and LBG Ghent for being wonderful nurse through the years.

CWG Kick-Off Meeting

Competitions Working Group (CWG) had its first Kick-off Meeting in Aachen from 20th to 25th November. CWG will be taking care of all the competitions including EBEC in near future. The event was meant to define the structure, projects, set goals for the year and discuss about the current state of the team. CWG members got to see the much coveted Christmas market in Aachen along with fun filled German evening and other parties.

LTP 1.2 - Aachen Training Weekend

LBG AachenLBG ENSTA ParisTechAutumn Course

From the 18th to the 24th of October, 20 par-ticipants came to discover the rythm of Paris and its awesome parties during the TEMPO, our Autumn Course. With courses about pro-ject management, a city rally and amazing activities, the first edition of an AC in ENSTA goes very well. Its was also the first occasion for our newbies to meet the international le-vel of BEST, and they are highly motivated now thanks to it!

Christmas Dimer

On the 17th of December, six different ge-nerations of besties were there in ENSTA for our traditional X-mas party. Our leprechaun had prepare us an amazing diner to celebra-tethe end of the year, and it was an occasion to invite people who were back from courses to share their experiences with us. After ex-changing lots of present we found our new mascot : Let me introduce Jawad the pig!! Challenge for you : Find it on the picture.

Regional Meeting

LBG ENSTA was well represented during this awesome RM! Thank you LBG Lyon and Raksmy for this event!!! Lots of love from ENSTA!

LBG AachenLBG GhentMotivational Weekend

As is yearly tradition, Ghent organises it’s Motivation Weekend to kick off our working year. Together with some newbies from LBG Aachen we had some fun activities and re-ceived training sessions according to the needs of the LBG. Perfect to get motivated for organising EBEC and PM!

President’s Meeting

Together with Leuven we’ve been working quite some time to make this event possible. After a whole year of hard work by Tim&Tom and their coreteam, PM Flanders finally took place, leaving both participants and organi-sers satisfied. A lot of good memories were made. For example, our former baby LBG Aachen was also voted as a Full Member of BEST: Congratulations! :)

Regional Meeting

A delegation of 5 Ghenties set course for Lyon. Unfortunately, we had some back luck which forced us to stay for the night in Lyon. Luckily we had our VP HR to keep the good mood and entertain our delegation. Because we also had to leave early, we missed 2/3 parties :/ We also visited the Eiffel tower... twice.

LBG AachenLBG GhentEBEC Preliminaries

Only two weeks after PM, we organised our preliminary rounds of EBEC Team Design on three different campuses. A core-team of four very motivated newbies committed themsel-ves fully to bringing this first edition of the EBEC Preliminaries in Ghent to a good end. After seeing the enthusiasm with which Team Design was welcomed on these campuses, we’re sure this will become an annual event.

LBG Diner

To conclude the semester, the LBG looked back on the past semester. Newbies wrote a Newyears letter to their angel, after which we went for dinner all together. Now it’s time for the final challenge of this semester: exams!

Motivational Weekend

In the beginning of october, we went on our annual motivational weekend! Here we had a lot of training sessions: BKT for the new-bies, a case study to get some work done for PM at the same time, and much more! We also had an interactive training session about KT, after which we decided to found a new working group: Knowledge Management. At the end of december we have re-structured our archives and wiki’s and are working on a better atmosphere for uploading documents on PA. But of course, it would not have been an LBG Leuven MW without the epic parties (we even had a prince and a parachutist!), a mysterious initiation for our newbies and a memorable cantus!

President's Meeting

Organising a General Meeting. The ultimate challenge for an LBG. It has been a long road, both stressful and fun, but it was worth it. The collaboration with Ghent also went smoothly and we still love them for it (they even came to Leuven for a cantus after PM!).

The weeks before PM we mainly focused on getting all details ready, but also on motiva-ting our members to help out! At the end, our whole LBG has had the amazing experience of a general meeting (which is a rare oppor-tunity!): learning more about BEST, meeting the international level in person and making great friends along the way.

ATHENS

One day after PM we represented BEST at the international week of our university, and two days later ATHENS week kicked off: Our two MOs did an amazing job making sure the so-cio-cultural part of this one week exchange program succeeded: organising everything ánd motivating the (exhausted from PM) LBG! We made sure those 74 international students will remember BEST Leuven!

Last Central-West RM

Because we would like to share our epicness and make the last Central-West RM legenda-ry, we decided to run for Spring RM host! We hope to see you all there! ;)

Xmas Diner

To conclude this busy semester, we have had our Christmas dinner (and afterparty). Our whole LBG came together to share a christ-mas meal, and also a lot of alumni were pre-sent. We exchanged gifts (we even had a very friendly real life santa claus there!) and made our annual LBG Leuven group photos!

The Monthly BEST-LLN Dinner

Fancy dinner with fancy people. We try (and succeed so far) to do that at least once a month :) #Delicious

La course aux flambeaux - Torch run

As every year, BEST-LLN ran during the tradi-tionnal “Course aux Flambeaux” in the streets of Louvain-la-Neuve (just because running with fire is funny fun fun). Try to spot the dinausor on the pic. (We ran for two hours.. Ranking.. no comment)

Local General AssemblyTo vote some extra-roles and introduce 4 freshly new besties. Please welcome (from left to right) Manon, Valentin, Tuan-Anh and Pat.

As you may notice, the number of boobies per member is falling.. We’ll work on that next semester!

Motivational Weekend

Between the 20th and the 22th of November we had our motivational week-end. We had lots of fun, cantus, Regional Evening, Cantus (#2) and of course, because BEST is not only about partying (or is it?), we received some wonderful, exquisit, tremendous, lovely trai-ning sessions from the greatest, mightiest, asianest RA ever (Raksmy) and from our fa-vourite dinosaur Francois. Thanks to them. The topics were: “motivation and delega-tion” and “graphic design”. We strengthened the bonds between our members and also with some visitors from LBG Polytechique and Liège.

Board Winter Meeting

We hosted the international management from 1st to 8th of December for their winter meeting. It was the occasion to evaluate the work they have done so far but also to vi-sit Brussels and Louvain-la-Neuve. It was also perfect way for our members to learn more about international stuff.. And party with the most important people in BEST. Some of them know how to drink… some don’t :p

Regional Meeting

Breaking news : a RM happened in Lyon! (... Actually it was in Grenoble). Supprisingly, It was cool. Even more surprising, nothing was broken. So for the sake of this region, we think we shoud really consider breaking more stuff in RM Leven ! <3

Next ?

It was a success but we are still working real-ly hard for our next projects :- International career day in February- Start up Camp in March- Spring course in AprilLBG Lyon is highly dedicated to keeping sprea-ding stupidity !!

Local EBEC

What an awesome experience we had! Thanks to our awesome MO Dora Lussiana and our EBEC team, we finally finished our local round of EBEC last december! In total, 6 teams for Case study and 6 for team design competed during an entire af-ternoon in order to continue their journey to EBEC France in Grenoble!

EBEC

This year’s EBEC registered a total soldout and was a success. The Case Study and the Team Design were held in November and December, and we had awesome company partners for both competitions. The Case Study partici-pants made us proud by winning the Reply Social competition against Aachen and Turin, and getting a 3D printer for the university as a prize.

In the Team Design, which was in partenrship with Magneti Marelli, an electronics and ra-cing company, participants had to create a gimbal using just basic materials: wood, nails, glue, etc. Here’s a video if you’re curious. The results were really great and everyone was happy with the way the competition went!

Trainers’ Forum

In the beginning of December we also hosted an in-ternal event, the 2015 Trainers’ Forum: the last edi-tion was in 2013, and this time about 60 trainers from 20 NGOs got together near Milan to discuss the future of training.

As all trainers do, the participants used hundreds of post-it and flipcharts to reach their goal, making the location the most colourful we’d ever seen. There was even a TEDx session where the bravest ones got on stage to deliver their talks and share their expe-riences. It was really interesting for us to see the differences and similarities between all the organi-zations!

bePASTA

And right before the holidays, for the first time LBG Milan hosted bePASTA. If you’re wondering what that is, it’s a new awesome event invented by us where participants can learn how to cook deliciously and cheaply for events, the italian way of course! Par-ticipants had the chance to attend sessions about food budgeting, pizza, polenta, risotto and of course PASTA! (If you don’t know what the pther stuff is just google it, but it’s not our fault if you get hungry :P)

This first edition was just the warm-up and it was a lot of fun, now we are ready to make it even bigger and better in the next years!

LBG AachenLBG Paris PolytechniqueA Winter Course !

The proposal to suspend the LBG was accep-ted during PM Flanders. Soon after that, from December 10th to 18th, the LBG Paris Poly-technique hosted its first Winter Course in history. A great mix of experienced members and newbies worked together to organize this awesome course. During the week-end trip, the participants received a very special mili-tary training by the Lieutenant Main Organi-ser Maxime, before a crazy cantus that shall be remembered (or not).

They worked on green energies and entre-preneurship, taking advantage of the labs and the brand new building dedicated to the startup environment, and finally pitched the startup ideas they had developed through the week. A great experience as a first step for the LBG to become Full Member again. The new board will soon be elected!

New Regional Divsion !

After applying our current regional division during 5 years, a new one will be on duty ! Yes as you know, the new regional division has been voted during PM Flanders !! It seems to be just a formality, but it’s not...Indeed : 3 generations of RAs worked hard on it ! Plus it’s the first time of the history of BEST that a Regional Division has been accep-ted on plenary !! And of course it will we the last 6 months of our region as we know :’( So let’s it be legendary !

PM Flanders

Beyond present for the voting of the new re-gional division, there were other reasons of being in PM. It’s not usual for an RA to have 2 LBGs of his region organising a General Mee-ting. So lucky as I am, it was a perfect op-portunity to visit Ghent & Leuven ! Plus, LBG Aachen and LBG Paris Polytechnique were concerned by a membership proposal, so it was also an big opportunity to support them. Finally, there were other purpose of visiting outside of being RA, as markeTeam stuff and meeting three of me RA fellow :p

LBG Visits

During this Autumn, I «had» to work on one of the «most borring» RA stuff : it’s called LBG visit. Working online is cool, but meet people you work for is much much better ! So I went there :• MW ENSTA• AC ENSTA• RM Lyon• PM Flanders• MW LLN• WC Polytechnique• bePASTA MilanSo awesome it was ! And don’t worry, All the LBGs should be visited, so if you want me, you know what to do ! ;)
