Drop In To The Hive
Funding For All will be holding Kent and Medway’s major Voluntary and Community Sector support event on Wednesday 28th May 2014 at the New Line Learning Academy, Maidstone
Funders already confirmed for the event include Big Lottery, Santander, Heritage Lottery Fund, Comic Relief, Arts Council, Sport England, Sported, Charity Bank, Kent County Council, Action with Communities in Rural Kent and Kent Community Foundation.
The event will include: • Specialist streams covering Social Enterprises, Food Banks, Community Buildings plus Community Income Generation/ Fundraising
• A pre-event breakfast to give organisations the opportunity to meet each other• Marketplace area with a range of exhibition stands
• One-to-one mentoring session with a Funding for All Mentor
The delegate fee is £15 (includes 2 course lunch)

On Wednesday 5 March NWK Volunteer Centre launched a new Drop-In service which will run alongside Diamond Job Club in Hive House Library, Northfleet. The Launch was also well attended by representatives of many local organisations including, CVS NWK, Surestart, MCCH Tuck by Truck, and Northfleet Big Local.
In other news, NWKVC has been approached by a major construction company which is embarking on a community involvement programme for a significant number its employees.
The idea is that each employee will spend one day per year working out in the community, preferably in a role that will benefit the environment working with not-for-profit organisations.

Harry joined CVSNWK in October as a work experience placement from KTA (Kent Training & Apprenticeship). During the 6 months that Harry has worked with us he has gained a wealth of knowledge in administration and office practice, using his skills whether in the office or attending events on behalf of CVS. Harry has been a good team player, always willing and up for whatever challenge thrown his way. We wish him all the best with his new apprenticeship at ‘The Grand’. He has been an asset to our team and will be greatly missed.

Community Investment Fund
The £20 million Community Investment Fund is inviting applications from charities and social enterprises in England.
The Fund invests between £250,000 and £1 million in community based, locally led organisations which are providing essential support and services to improve the well-being of local residents, developing the local economy and creating positive social change for all individuals in the community.
The Fund aims to improve the quality of life of local individuals, particularly those who are vulnerable and disadvantaged, and to enhance community engagement and cohesion by empowering people to develop locally-determinedsolutions to challenges and opportunities.
The finance may be used for working capital, growth capital, property purchase or renovation, or other capital expenditure requirements.

MCCH have signed up to the new Social Care Commitment which gives people the confidence in knowing that people will always be supported by skilled people who treat them with dignity and respect.

Boost Charitable TrustGrants of £500 are available for charities and non-profit making organisations that support disabled and disadvantaged individuals take part in sport.

People’s Postcode TrustRegistered charities, community/voluntary groups, community interest companies and other not-for-profit organisations can apply for grants of up to £10,000.
Projects should address one or more of the following:
• Prevention of poverty; reduction of distress and suffering
• Advancement of health
• Advancement of citizenship or community development
• Advancement of public participation in sport
• Advancement of human rights, conflict resolution or reconciliation
• Advancement of environmental protection or improvement
The programme runs quarterly funding rounds with different regions being eligible to apply.

Gravesham Council is looking for volunteers to help make the borough look even more beautiful. The South & South East in Bloom campaign is the largest horticultural campaign in the region, involving 100’s of communities each year.
As a part of this year’s Gravesham in Bloom competition, as well as the usual hanging baskets and flower displays, some of the urban areas will be decorated with knitted flowers and handmade bunting. The idea is to dress areas which are not suitable for traditional planting schemes with brightly coloured ornamentation.
An “Urban Knitting” group will meet every Monday from 12pm – 2pm at The Woodville, Gravesend, everyone is welcome.
So bring along your knitting needles and crochet hooks to join colleagues in a creative environment and help brighten the community. If you have any spare knitting needles, crochet hooks or wool please bring them along.

HOME SUPPORT Offers a range of services which includes household cleaning, shopping, and running errands to the local Community in the Dartford, Swanley and Gravesham Areas.
HOME SUPPORT SCHEME Flooding and Coastal Change - Repair &
Renew GrantPeople whose homes and businesses were flooded between 1 December 2013 and 31 March 2014 can now apply for a government grant of up to £5,000 through their local authority (district/borough council).
The purpose of the grant is to help people with the cost of buying and installing new measures to reduce the chances of flooding in the first place, or limit the damage should they be flooded in the future. This could include things like a new driveway barrier or replacing doors and windows with water resistant alternatives, or moving electricity sockets to a safer level.
Even if property owners have already fitted new measures following this winter’s flooding they can still apply for the grant retrospectively to cover the cost.
Local authorities in affected areas have established local schemes for administering the grants and commissioning surveys of flooded properties to identify measures that would improve their resilience or resistance to future floods.

CVSNWK’s Linked Services Project has now come to an end. Because of the huge success of the LSP, we have relaunched the service as the Home Support Scheme, ensuring that our clients continue to receive the help that they need. We will continue to provide our Handyman, Home Support and Gardening services as usual but please note the changes to the contact phone number and email addresses.

Big Lottery FundYour Voice, Our Vision
The Big Lottery Fund (BIG) is holding a UK wide conversation through a dedicated website on how it should spend £4 billion of lottery funding between 2015 and 2021. BIG is asking for views on how it should shape its vision and plans over the six year period in support of its mission “to bring real improvements to communities and the lives of people most in need”.
To join the conversation, go to the website and register. Once registered, visitors can read what others are saying, join in discussions and contribute by adding a blog, film or a tweet.

The People’s MillionsPeople’s Millions is an annual TV competition run by the Big Lottery Fund and ITV News which awards Lottery funding to community projects that improve the lives of local people.
As in previous years, the People’s Millions is a partnership programme between the Big Lottery Fund and ITV. The public help decide which local community projects get funding by voting for their favourite projects in their area. Anything from youth and environmental projects to schemes that improve employment prospects or help people in need have a chance to win, provided that entrants can convince their community through a broadcast on ITV regional news in November that their idea is worthy of the prize.
In 2014, there are four awards of up to £50,000 on offer in each of the 19 ITV regional news areas across the UK. Kent is in the Meridian East area.

Grants of up to £5,000 are available to both national and local charities for community projects, from repairing buildings and improving facilities in deprived areas, to decorating the homes of people living with sickness or disability.

European Social Fund Community Grants Almost £400,000 of EU grant funding is now available to support smaller charities and social enterprises that help people in Kent and Medway get back to work. Action with Communities in Rural Kent are managing the European Social Fund (ESF) Community Grants scheme across Kent and Medway until mid 2015, and awards of up to £15,000 are available.
ESF Community Grants support a wide range of activities including:
• Initial help with basic skills • Taster work experience, including voluntary work • Training and advice • Confidence building
Priority will be given to projects that support lone parents, women, people with health/disability issues, older people, and people from ethnic minorities and diverse communities.
Action with Communities in Rural Kent run free grant application workshops. Details of the workshops can be found on their website.

Inspiring Digital Enterprise Award (iDEA)HRH The Duke of York and the Nominet Trust have created the Award for 16-25 year-olds who have “a flair for all things digital and an entrepreneurial spirit.”
The scheme will support up to 1,000 young people in developing a digital business, enabling them to build prototypes and test the viability of their business idea with real customers.
The 20 most promising ideas will be awarded £5,000 incubation funding to help take their prototype to market. The top three digital ideas will then be selected to receive the 2014 iDEA Award and will be given £15,000 seed funding each.

BIS - Science and Society Community Challenge
Grant SchemeThe Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) has launched a new scheme to support the development of projects which take science to diverse audiences, and engage them with science in their own communities.
Grants of up to £40,000 are available to a wide range of applicants, including scientists and researchers, science centre or museum staff, artists, educators, schools, colleges and universities, film makers, businesses, community groups, churches, etc.

RSPCA Kent North West branch are looking for a Branch Treasurer, roles and responsibilities for this position are as follows:AimsAct as principal financial trustee maintaining and administering the accounts of the branch.Key activities - In addition to all those listed under the role of branch committee member•To implement and maintain sound financial systems in order to retain full control of branch funds. To take a lead role in ensuring the committee set annual financial budgets and forward plan the branch income and expenditure so that the accounts balance in the long term.•To provide a written financial report for every branch meeting showing the branches income and expenditure, since the last meeting.•To liaise with auditors/independent examiner regarding the production of the annual branch accounts and treasurer’s report for the AGM, including SORP statement.•To maintain control of all bank accounts as authorised by the committee.
