’Our ancestors worried about one thing only: Making the best possible wine. We have added another concern to this (very short) list: To make our wines known across the world’.
Victor Urrutia
‘CVNE’s crest is, essentially, Spains’ flag. Not an aristocrat’s shield, or a single person’s signature. We are Spain’s ambassador; and Imperial is the wine from Spain’.

WINEMAKING A manual selection of grapes at their optimum point of ripeness. Once in the winery, the grapes macerated in cold for 6 – 8 hours to create more structure and flavour to the finished wine. The grapes are then lightly pressed and the juice transferred to new american oak casks for fermentation for between 15 and 20 days at cellar temperature, between 16 and 20ºC. The young wine remains on its lees which are periodically stirred through the wine so that they hang in suspension. The wine is regularly tasted to assess its flavour evolution, until we decide on the optimum moment to rack it and bottle it. VINTAGE / HARVEST DESCRIPTION The 2014 harvest amount exceeds the previous two vintages.. During the year, the climatology was favourable resulting in a vegetative cycle that allows to expect a good vintage Both the summer months and the harvest time have been marked by more rain than expected. Again preventive treatments performed in our vineyards, such as thinning clusters and leafless have allowed us to obtain a high quality grapes. The optimum time to harvest began the 23rd September, when we started harvesting white grapes and continued with red grapes, until it was finished on 22nd October with good perspectives.
TASTING NOTES Soft pale yellow with green gold reminiscences. Elegant, attractive aromatic intensity. Fruits like pineapple, apple and banana are present and in perfect balance with the aromas from the oak, like coconut, vanilla and nuts. In the mouth it leaves a sweet aftertaste that invite us to continue drinking. Ideal for white meat, foie, fish, salads and pasta. .

VIÑA REAL CRIANZA 2012

The 2012 Viña Real Crianza, from a very dry, early harvest, feels fresher than the 2011. It's a similar blend of 90% Tempranillo and 10% Garnacha Tinta with Mazuelo and Graciano fermented in stainless steel and matured in barrel for 14 months. The wine was about to be bottled and showed really young with both ripe fruit and plenty of spices, hints of leather, fountain pen ink, black licorice and Aniseed over a core of very ripe, showy fruit. It has a lush texture, still a bit too young with some tannins that should get polished with a little bit of time in bottle. However, this wine will not be sold before until the end of 2015. At this price level the quality is outstanding. LUIS GUTIERREZ April 2015

WINEMAKING Wine made from grapes from the Rioja Alavesa area harvested and processed manually in Viña Real. The destemmed grapes were placed in stainless steel tanks where alcoholic fermentation takes place for 10-12 days with temperature control between 26-28 º C. The wine after malolactic fermentation happens to French oak barrels where it remains and American 13 - 14 months. The wine is racked barrel while in every 5-6 months to encourage proper ripening and organoleptic evolution. VINTAGE / HARVEST DESCRIPTION The 2012 harvest has been limited in the DOCa Rioja due to the drought that has characterized this vintage. The performance in the vineyard has been lower especially in rainfed areas and affected all varieties, especially the white grape, but this lack of rain has meant that the grapes arrive at the winery in excellent health getting very Mediterranean wines, aromatic and fruity In CVNE started on September 20 and ended on October 23, performing a slow and selective harvest. TASTING NOTES This wine shows shades of medium to deep shiny cherry colour on a purple background. To the nose, intense aromas of ripe fruits (blackberries, blackcurrants) stand out, complemented with subtle hints of oak. To the palate, it shows structured and round with a good integration of fruitiness and oakiness. The aftertaste is marked by very well balanced tannins as well as by persistent spicy, toasty and balsamic aromas. A long stay in bottle is the finishing touch to this Rioja Alavesa wine's character.
VIÑA REAL RESERVA 2010

Going one step up in the quality ladder, the Viña Real 2010 Reserva plays with the advantage of being cropped from a Quite balanced, fresh vintage, a blend of 90% Tempranillo and 10% Garnacha, Mazuelo and Graciano from Rioja Alavesa fermented in stainless steel and matured in barrel for 22 months, during which time it was racked every four months. This wine has all the classical aromas of an old Time Rioja, cherries, vanilla, some coconut, dill, leather, cured meat, incense, old furniture and cold bonfire. The palate is medium-bodied and very balanced with great acidity and fine tannins that make it easy to drink. Pop or keep. It has good freshness, and with time in the glass it develops beautiful aromas of orange peel that transmit very good freshness LUIS GUTIERREZ April 2015

WINEMAKING The grapes, principally grown in the Rioja Alavesa sub-zone are carefully picked by hand when fully ripe, and only the healthiest bunches are selected. On arrival at the winery, the grapes are cooled and macerated, prior to the alcoholic fermentation, which is carried out in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature. The length of time the fermenting juice is kept in contact with the skins is determined by daily tasting and analysis, until the desired levels of colour and structure are reached. The young wine is then transferred to a mix of American and French oak casks to mature, for up to 2 years, before being bottled. Once bottled, it will remain in our cellars to continue its maturation prior to release to the market. VINTAGE / HARVEST DESCRIPTION The evolution of the vineyard during the 2010 harvest has been very good as a whole. The excellent state of the crop is due to a favourable climate during the year. In comparisons to previous vintages, this one starts with punctuality and evolves slowly without incidence during October, allowing a selective harvest confirming the excellent maturity. TASTING NOTES This wine shows a deep cherry red colour. Very elegant to the nose, with outstanding spicy and fine wood notes and a very expressive touch of very mature and stewed fruits. To the palate, it is a full-bodied wine with a solid structure, very complex, refined, with a long aftertaste and very round tannins that anticipate a long capacity for ageing.

“Viña Real, one of the most consistent historical reds from Rioja”
“Through years of drinking old Rioja I came to the conclusion that the most regular and reliable wines were those from CVNE”
“ Viña Real is the more voluptuous and showy blend from
Rioja Alavesa, Tempranillo and Mazuelo”
“ If Imperial was their “fine” red, then Viña Real was the
meatier, rounder and more “powerful” bottling presented in a Burgundy bottle. Obviously, the understanding of fine and powerful was quite different back then (probably guided by alcohol levels),fine for Viña Real and powerful for Imperial”
