“Kindness is Key.” Have you ever been out in public and heard someone talking to a loved one in a way that made you cringe? Like: “I cannot believe you forgot to bring the kids’ coats today! It’s freezing outside! What were you thinking?” "There is something wrong with you!" Most of us would never speak that way in public. But how about at home, where nobody else can hear? Has an angry tone ever crept into your voice? When you are angry, hurt or frustrated, have you ever let it all pour out with no filter? It is so easy to take a spouse or friend for granted. We can subconsciously think, “ Since we’re married or good friends, I don’t have to be as careful to be polite. We will love each other regardless, so I can just speak without filter.” “Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruits.” Proverbs 18:21 ESV In research, the happiest couples and friendships display the highest degree of kindness. Sure, they are honest and share the “real deal”, but they are also especially careful to do it in a way their loved one will never perceive as hurtful. Sure, they joke around and razz each other, but never at the expense of their real feelings. Today, we often hear that “You have to be able to be brutally honest with each other.” Yet the Word says that reckless words “pierce like a sword.” Instead of allowing brutal honesty to hurt those closest to us, we can choose to discipline our tongue. There will be times when we need to have a hard conversation, but that is when we need to be the most careful to protect the heart of the person who means the most to us. That is when we need to be the most careful to not just speak the truth – but speak the truth in love. How should we handle the times when people forget important things? Well, do unto others, right? How would you want them to share a concern with you, about an area where you have fallen short? No matter what is going on in our lives, we can decide to be respectful to those in our life in public and in private. Even better, we can look for opportunities, every day, to be more like Christ towards our church family, family and friends and speak words of life and healing rather than cutting each other down. MONTHLY

Are you ready for a little early Christmas shopping?

How about that baby gift or birthday gift

you need to buy this week?

The Christian Crafters have a good assortment of handmade gifts ready for purchase. We have quilts and crocheted blankets, baby blankets and bibs. For the kitchen, we have hand embroidered towels and crocheted dish cloths, scrubbed and pot holders. The crafters make the items for sale then donate proceeds back to the church or other charitable causes. Last year we gave back more than $1000 to the church and other projects. One of our quilts is on display in the new entrance of the church. If you are interested in seeing what we have, see the attached pictures. You can also visit us on Thursday mornings at the Annex or contact Connie Meyer at 913-909-7164.

Volunteers are just ordinary people with extraordinary hearts. They offer

the gift of their time to teach, to listen, to help, to inspire, to build, to grow,

to learn. They expect no pay, yet the value of their work knows no limit…

They’ve known the unexpected joy of a simple hug. They’ve planted tiny

seeds of love in countless lives. Volunteers are just ordinary people who reach out and take a

hand and together make a difference that lasts a lifetime.

The Great Expectations Class will be starting a new lesson by Max Lucado on Sunday, October 1, 2017. We invite anyone interested to please come and join us. We are located in the Library on the West side of the hallway from the sanctuary.

"Before you lash out in fear, look up in faith” - Max Lucado, Anxious for Nothing Do you feel weighed down with worry? Does the uncertainty and chaos of life keep you up at night? Are irrational fears your constant companion? Could you use some calm? In this Bible study, author Max Lucado explores God’s treatment plan for anxiety found in Philippians 4:4-8. As you follow this prescription – celebrating God’s goodness, asking for his help, leaving your concerns with him, and meditating on good things – you will experience God’s peace. This is a peace that “transcends all understanding” and will help you reframe the way you look at your fears. While anxiety is a part of life, it doesn’t have to dominate your life. With God as your helper and his promises at your side, you can sleep better tonight and smile more tomorrow. You can talk yourself off the ledge and view bad news through the lens of God’s sovereignty. You can discover a life and develope tools for combating the onslaught of anxiety. Stop letting anxiety rule the day. Join Max on the journey to true freedom and experience more joy, clarity, physical renewal, and contentment by the power of the Holy Spirit. Anxiety comes with life. But it doesn't have to dominate your life. *************************************************************
