Side by Side Cursillo Weekend 17th to 20th September 2015

Womens 66 and Mens 49 Cursillo will be held at Swanleigh

as a side by side Cursillo.

So how does this work … simply the talks are held separately

but the two groups come together for meals and chapel –

except for the healing service.

Lay directors Sharon Zuiddam and Mike Absalom are

currently putting teams together and ask for your prayers

as they commence training at John Septimus Roe in June.

START PRAYING NOW – looking for God’s guidance as to whom to invite. This is a great opportunity for couples to attend at the same time. Our aim is to bring people into the greater knowledge of the love that Christ has for us. Cursillo is a beginning point for some, others a sign post along the way, others renewal; it is many things to many people but most of all it is about the love that God has for us in sometimes surprising shapes and forms. Application forms for this Cursillo weekend are available from

your parish contact or the website http://www.cursillo.perth.

Applications close Thursday 2nd September.

Make a friend, be a friend, bring that friend to Christ.

Hello fellow Cursillistas,

Sharon here, Lay Director for the

upcoming Cursillo, W66. I have

been on the search for another

wonderful team of ladies who are

willing to share their love of

Christ with future participants. In

doing so, it has struck me how so

many of our brothers and sisters

in Christ are missing out on this

great opportunity to serve and

share just because we have old

contact details.

I urge you please, if you are

changing your contact details, or

know of someone who has

changed theirs, please contact us –

either via the form on the website

or through your parish contact

and update us so you don’t miss

out on the chance to share in the

growing Cursillista family.

Sharon.

WHO SHOULD “DO” CURSILLO?

Cursillo is open to members of any Christian

denomination. Cursillo opens the way for our grace-

filled lives to be lived and shared with others. It is for

the development of Christian people who: Are

members of a local church; Have a desire to

strengthen their spiritual lives; May have unanswered

questions about faith; Understand that being a

Christian involves responsibility; Are willing to

dedicate their everyday lives to God in an ongoing

manner. Start now...pray for God’s insight into who

you might sponsor to experience a Cursillo weekend

this year!

Ready, Willing and Able?

As the appointed Lay Director, I am now

looking to assemble a team to stage

Men’s 49 Cursillo in September. This

promises to be the most exciting event of

the century as it is to run concurrently

with that of Women’s 66 Cursillo. It is a

challenge that I look forward to. If you

would like to join with me in this

adventure please let me know and we

can talk about what you might offer to

the weekend.

If you are ready, willing and able call or

text me on 0409 977 117, or drop me a

line to [email protected].

Congratulations to…

The parishes of:

Dianella, Applecross, Duncraig and

Rockingham!

These parishes are regularly holding 4th Day

Group reunions … Is your parish doing this too?

– Please let us know so we can celebrate your

commitment to the Cursillo way as well. Want to

hold 4th day reunions but not sure what or how to

do so? Send us a message on the website!

Ultreya !!!! So a quick pop quiz! Who recalls what Ultreya means???

"Ultreya" is a Spanish word, derived from the original

Latin, meaning Onward! It was in common use by pilgrims

to greet and to encourage one another as they walked the

Camino de Santiago. This word is now also used by the

Cursillo community to signify the meeting which is held after a Cursillo experience.

Cursillo is chasing a

communion set – do you

happen to have or know

of one laying around,

unloved and unused.

We need a chalice or two,

a ciborium, and a bread box or some spare linens?

Contact Rev William Thomas on 0402 512 145 or

[email protected]

Can YOU help – many of these jobs are

occasional, some even only once a year,

but they are an opportunity to serve God in

a different capacity. Please pray and see

where the Spirit is leading you.

Treasurer (OK so this is an ongoing one,

and we would like you to commit to 3

years). Involves maintaining financial

records, paying bills, receipting incomings,

a bit of balancing here and there… you

know the general stuff … but you get to

have a say in how Cursillo in WA is run by

attending Secretariat meetings!!! (These are

awesome!)

Newsletter Editor (again I may have

stretched the truth a smidgeon – a 3 year

stint would be helpful) As you can tell from

this epistle we need someone with a few

more computer skills than me but we only

want 3 or 4 newsletters per year. Feel free

to commission others to write columns,

borrow and adapt from any source you can.

Pack up crew – (ok this one is only when

we hold a weekend, so this year its

ONCE!!!) Simply put – it would be a great to

have a few able bodied people to pack the

trailer PROPERLY at the end of a

weekend.. it’s then done and no one has to

unpack and repack again later because

things are in the wrong space. It’s a form of

good stewardship so things last and are

protected and maintained and not damaged

in transit. Leanne Doyle has worked hard to

get the wonderful trailer and has organized

everything to streamline the process – we

just need committed bodies for a couple of

hours!!

On prayer

(in 50 words or less - my budget!) To pray is to partake in the Graciousness of G-D. As the baptised in the Body of Christ we take our place as branches utterly dependent on Him as the Vine. And in this matrix we are attached to each other. This is our privilege and joy - to make community ‘with Him, in Him’ - and is exemplified in the words Jesus gave us, ‘Our Father’. We do not pray alone even if we are seemingly so - Christ is there, offering with us, as are our sisters and brothers - the communion of saints.

And we are promised that when we ask in faith G-D will hear. The best advice about prayer, - if i may make so bold as to offer any - is pray as you can, don’t try to pretzel yourself into someone else’s shape. Just be still and know G-D where you are (oops blew the budget, sorry Sarah)).

De colores!

Pax et bonum

hilary,

Prayer convevor WA Cursillo.

COMPETITION TIME – Can you please apply your thinking

caps!!! This newsletter needs a name … other dioceses use

words like “The Encourager”, “the Owle” and “New Day”.

What interesting and uplifting words can you think of to name

our newsletter? Please email suggestions to

[email protected]. And the prize for the

winning entry is … my undying gratitude!!!

Page 4: CURSILLO PERTH 2012 · a large number of Cursillistas…but to have living and active Christians.” “The Cursillo Movement is a movement of the Church which, by means of its method,

Sponsoring!!!!

Sponsorship is probably the most misunderstood yet THE most important part of the Cursillo process.

Eduardo Bonnin, one the lay founders of the Cursillo Movement said, “Cursillos are held…not so that there will be a large number of Cursillistas…but to have living and active Christians.” “The Cursillo Movement is a movement of the Church which, by means of its method, makes possible for people to live what is fundamental for being a Christian. By living it with others, it helps people discover and fulfill their personal vocations. The Cursillo Movement promotes the creation of core groups of Christians who leaven their environments with the Gospel”.

Sponsoring is not a haphazard circumstance -it should be a deliberate act to bring Jesus Christ into the world. Sponsors should know the candidates very well. The candidates will become the agent for change in their families, work situations, neighbourhoods, social gatherings, to name a few.

Sponsors should:

Understand the goal of the Cursillo Movement and their responsibility as sponsors. Know that potential candidates fall into three groups

those who ought to go, those who can go and those who cannot or should not go.

Know the candidate as well as possible and pray for direction from the Holy Spirit. Remember to speak to God about others before speaking to others about God.

Know information about the candidate. Information like marital status, number of children, parish that the candidate attends, specific environments that the candidate is immersed in. In addition, the candidate should be a baptized, practicing Christian who is able to participate in the Sacraments of Church; should be able to make decisions as an individual and should be open to participate in Post Cursillo programs.

There is one more thing that a sponsor should do before the Cursillo weekend. Ensure that the candidate has read the booklet entitled The Cursillo Movement – What Is It?

Below is a simple, general process to follow for sponsoring a candidate in Cursillo.

Pray!

READ AND UNDERSTAND "THE CURSILLO MOVEMENT'S SPONSOR'S BOOKLET – haven’t seen it? Contact us via the website for a copy http://www.cursillo.perth.anglican.org/?page_id=42

Pray! about a prospective candidate

Talk to your friend about Cursillo and give them a copy of the “What is Cursillo” pamphlet. Make a date to follow up and discuss the introduction sheet and gauge interest.

Pray!

If they AND you decide to proceed; then give the prospective candidate the application form, with your section completed. Assist them to complete and ask their priest to endorse the application.

Pray!

Remember as sponsor YOU undertake to get them to and from the venue and to support their family

while they are away!

Page 5: CURSILLO PERTH 2012 · a large number of Cursillistas…but to have living and active Christians.” “The Cursillo Movement is a movement of the Church which, by means of its method,

Ross and I met 14 years ago through my work, and over the

years we had become best friends, but I thought he would

never be interested in anything more than friendship. We

realised late last year after we had been through significantly

difficult issues in each of our lives that we belonged together,

so on April 11, 2015 we were married at St Luke's Church in

Mosman Park .... where Ross was ordained to the deaconate

Ultreya!!!

Sandy Kilpatrick

Gillian Loffell – who has been an active and gracious member of

secretariat with a variety of roles including secretary and newsletter

editor. Gillian we wish you every success with life in the future!

And to Jeanette Woods – our wonderfully talented, patient and caring

Treasurer. You have made understanding the Cursillo finances easier and

have put some great systems in place to streamline this task. May God

richly bless you and keep you.

NEXT EDITION – We would love to include a fourth

day story – how Cursillo has enriched your walk with

God. A couple of hundred words and a good pic would be

all that we need. YOUR story may be just what someone

else needs to hear today to encourage and support.
