Kolodny Page 9 “Cable Television Advertising in Political Campaigns (article under preparation).” Using political advertising data from the 2006 and select 2008 campaigns, I ask why cable television advertising is underutilized compared to broadcast advertising despite its lower price and more precise reach. Quantitative analysis on individual ad data on cable television and broadcast television by comparable campaigns in the same media market at the same time reveals important discrepancies. “Political Parties’ Use of Coordinated and Independent Expenditures in Federal Campaigns, 1978-2008.” Having completed the compilation of an exhaustive database, I am currently analyzing the data to answer the question of whether candidate ideology or race competitiveness determines the extent and type of commitment parties make to their candidates’ campaigns. I hypothesize that candidate ideology has no influence on party campaign behavior. Quantitative analysis of candidate characteristics, electoral environment, and party spending will test the competing hypotheses. “The Bidirectional Benefits of Political Party Democracy Promotion: The Case of the United Kingdom’s Westminster Foundation for Democracy.” Revision of accepted working paper for submission to a peer reviewed journal.
