PROFILE
A Natural/Environmental Resource Scientist with a deep interest in maintaining a balance between
the conservation of these resources and development in a bid to ensure inter-generational equity
in the utilization of these resources and promote sustainable development of resource-endowed
areas without compromising on environmental quality. Core research areas/ interest include
participatory forest management planning, social/community forestry, traditional biodiversity
conservation mechanisms, environmental implications of mining, wood energy production and its
implications for environmental sustainability.
Considerable experience as a practitioner, teacher and researcher with an exposure in or in contact
with jurisdictions outside and within Africa such as (Finland, Norway, Sweden, Australia,
Malaysia, Japan, Brazil, Canada, Germany, Spain) and (Ethiopia, Senegal, Cameroun, Benin, Cote
d’Ivoire respectively).
Earned a reputation for execution of donor- funded forestry-related projects, adherence to
participatory forest management principles and technical forestry training.
WORK EXPERIENCE
2018- Date: Technical Advisor to the Chief Executive, Forestry Commission
October 2010 – 2018: Chief Operations Manager, Forest Services Division, Head Quarters
Accra. Duties included: Field Monitoring Operations, Co-ordination of the preparation of
Forest Management Plans at the various Districts. Preparation of Operational and Policy

Guidelines, Processing of Natural Forest Permits, Representation of Forest Services
Division at Various fora and in various national technical committees.
January 2007-October 2010: Regional Manager, Forest Services Division, Forestry
Commission, Western Region Duties Included: Forest Management, Protection,
Participatory Natural Resources Management and Financial Administration. Successfully
supervised the inauguration of participatory forest management committee in all Districts
within my jurisdiction. Successfully contested illegal farmers/squatters in Krokosua Hills
Forest Reserve by winning the case in a High Court. Successfully developed and
implemented a field monitoring concept which was adopted as a national working
document. After it was formally inaugurated by the then Regional Minister of the region,
the initiative merited a commendation from the then chief executive of the Forestry
Commission.
September 2005 –February 2007: National Coordinator, Bamboo and Rattan Development
Programme. Ministry of Lands, Forestry and Mines, Accra. My achievements included the
development of an organogram and prompting the recruitment of qualified staff to fill it.
Relocation of the office of the secretariat to the Achimota Forestry Depot, securing an
approved work plan form the Sector Minister, and putting in place a permanent ad robust
steering committee for the first time in four year of inception of the program.
February 2004 to December 2006: Regional Manager, Forest Services Division Forest,
Forestry Commission, Greater Accra Region. Duties Included: Forest Management,
Protection and Development, Human Resources Management and financial administration.
Successfully introduced and implemented the concept of sustainable wood-fuel harvesting
in the Chipa Forest Reserve. Successfully restored the management of Sege Wood Fuel
Plantation and conducted a socio-economic survey for it for the first time. Initiated
Collaborative Management of sacred groves with endemic communities.
August 2001 to 2006: Visiting lecturer, Faculty of Forest Resources Technology KNUST
(Sunyani Campus) currently University of Energy and Natural Resources, (UENR)

Sunyani. Successfully supervised 5 student diploma thesis based on identified field
problems.
July 2000 –February 2004: Regional Manager, Forest Services Division, Forestry
Commission, Brong Ahafo Region. Duties included: Sustainable Forest Management,
Protection and Development, Human Resources Management and Financial
Administration. Successfully supervised the 2-year preparatory stage of the Japanese-
sponsored Participatory Forest Management project. Succeeded in inserting a Regional
Forestry office complex in the project, secured a site for its construction by a local
consulting architect who won the bid to do the designs and also supervised the construction
of the office after my exit. Successfully developed and implemented a broad based
Confiscated Timber disposal committee which was adopted as a national working
document. Successfully hosted the Presidential launching of the national forest plantation
Development program in September 2001.
August 1999 –July 2000: Assistant Regional Manager. Forest Services Division, Forestry
Commission, Brong Ahafo Region. Co-ordinated the development of forest management
plants and supervised its implementation at the various districts
September 1994- August 1999: District Forestry Officer, Forestry Department, Goaso.
Duties included sustainable forest management, protection, development and promotion of
community / private forestry initiatives. Monitoring of logging activities and generation of
forest revenue and human resources management. Established a 10hectare Kihuwi Teak
plantation in the Bia Tano Forest Reserve to serve as a seed orchard.
1987-1994: Resident tutor School of Forestry, Sunyani, Ghana. Subjects taught included
Agro Forestry, Natural Resources Extension Education. Contributed to the revision of the
curriculum of the School in respect of an intended upgrading to a tertiary institution. I was
a substantive housemaster during the entire duration of my stewardship. I supervised
students’ practical training in forest plantation development, trees identification, and field
surveys.

December 11, 2018: Workshop on Bioenergy development in Ghana at the FAO office in
Accra organized by the Ghana Energy Commission under the Auspices of FAO and the
ECOWAS Commission on Renewable Energy Efficiency (ECREE).
October 24-31, 2015: Tailing and Mine Waste Conference in Vancouver, Canada. It was
jointly organized by the University of British Columbia UBC (Vancouver) Canada,
University of Colorado, (USA) and University of Alberta (USA) for 300 delegates from
around the globe to deliberate on international best practice for managing tailings and mine
waste in order to guard against breaches of Tailings storage facilities.
29th September -4th October 2015: Validation workshop on ECOWAs Bioenergy Policy.
Workshop convened at the instance of the ECOWAS Centre for Renewable Energy and

Energy Efficiency (ECREE) in King Fahd’s palace held at Dakar for technocrats and policy
makers from the 15 ECOWAS Countries.
September 21 – October 4th (2012): Study tour on mining in the Amazon Forest in Para
State, Brazil. It was intended to enlighten the participants on environmentally sound mining
techniques in an environmentally sensitive site.
20th January-4th February (2008): Exchange visit to Cameroon. Study tour on
protected/conservation area management in the Republic of Cameroon. I was part of a
delegation selected from Forestry Commission and key stake holders.
July/August (2006): International Agro-forestry conference (IAC) jointly organized by
Forest Research Institute Malaysia (FRIM) and Malaysian society of plant physiology
MSPP for selected African and Asian Pacific countries at Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
October-December (2005): Bamboo Technology course at the Centre for Bamboo
Research China, Hangzhou China- organized by the Chinese Ministry of Commerce for
participants from selected developing countries in Asia and Africa.

Ghana Chamber of Mines at the International Conference Centre, Accra.
November 12, 2015: National Seminar on Forestry Synergies between FLEGT-VPA and
REDD+ Jointly organized by the Ghana Forestry Commission and Tropenbos Ghana
International to discuss lessons leant and validate research findings on the synergies.
10th September, 2015: Review workshop on forest management planning organized at
Akroma Plaza, Takoradi to review the draft forest management plans for the Fure
Headwaters Forest Reserve at Asankrangwa.
3rd September, 2015: Review workshop on forest management planning organized at the
Kosados Hotel in Kumasi to review the draft forest management plans for the Tinte Bepo
Forest Reserve at Mankranso.
18th August, 2015: An overview of forestry and wood sector specific guidelines. A
workshop held at the premises of the EPA to seek experts’ opinion for the review of the
existing guidelines for the forestry and wood sector.
16th April, 2015: Sub-committee meeting on the rehabilitation of the Weija Dam. Meeting
convened at the instance of the national Security at the ultimate Hotel (close to west hills
mall) to deliberate on a proposed MOU on the subject.
22nd January, 2015: A PhD oral examination held at the conference room of the school of
Graduate Studies, University of Ghana, Legon on the title (Anthropogenic Activities and
Forest Ecosystem Dynamics and Sustainability). A case study in three Savanna Forest
Zones in Northern Ghana. I was invited to attend in the capacity of an external examiner.
2nd February, 2014: A Stakeholder meeting on Sustainable Wood-fuel Project held at the
Forestry Commission Board Room at the instance of the Energy Commission to discuss
the project and the way forward in ensuring successful project implementation.
31st January, 2014: General meeting of Ghana Man and the Biosphere National Committee
held at the Conference Room of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
