American Women in Radio and TV Award for “What’s Happening” at CBS News Boston University College of Communication Distinguished Alumni Award 1985 TEACHING EXPERIENCE Since 2008 I’ve taught a skills-oriented, social media-aware undergraduate course in news video production and editing for Anglo- American University in Prague, Czech Republic. I also taught an executive media training seminar sponsored by the British Chamber of Commerce – University of Pittsburgh EMBA program in Prague and a presentation skills seminar for The US Business School-Praha.

I have been a co-leader and trainer for professional workshops and seminars given for journalists from formerly Communist countries. These include Serbia in 1998 and 2006 under VOA/US Embassy sponsorship, Albania in 2002 sponsored by USAID/IREX/World Learning and various groups of Bosnians and Poles brought to the US for training by VOA. Subject material included basic radio and TV news production and writing, investigative and business reporting, women’s and health issues and most recently adapting journalism skills to a multiplatform industry. In the mid to late 1990’s I worked for Reuters Financial Television in New York City, training print journalists in TV writing, presentation and production skills.

OTHER PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE (ABSTRACT)

Since 1992 I have freelanced as a broadcast reporter, anchor, writer and producer in the New York City market - at CNBC (current), WOR radio, the Dow Jones and Wall Street Journal Radio Networks, WWOR-TV (including the Pope John Paul Legacy series in 2003 & 2005, the September 11th, 2001 terror attacks and John F. Kennedy Jr’s death), WNBC-TV (including the TWA Flight 800 disaster), Reuters Television, PBS (HealthWeek), and also at WPIX-TV, WNYC-TV and WNET-13 (PBS). I have produced and reported for Business Now (syndicated on many ABC owned and operated stations). I was a news anchor and talk host on WCBS-AM, WABC-AM and WHDH-AM (Boston). In 1997 I formed

The Fred Group Ltd. (www.fredgroupltd.com) with a former CBS News

colleague. The Fred Group has created and produced a number of

complex corporate video/internet projects. My husband and I also started a sister company – Fred Group s.r.o - in Prague, Czech Republic.

I joined Financial News Network in 1989, working as an anchor, correspondent, and producer. Substitute anchor on “FNN Focus”, a primetime, “Nightline” style, issues-oriented talk program. Correspondent for Viacom-syndicated “This Morning’s Business”. Prior to FNN, I spent 5 years at WWOR-TV as a staff reporter/producer. I covered the 1984 and 1988 presidential campaigns, the 1987 Stock Market Crash, and the Challenger space shuttle disaster from Cape Canaveral.

From 1973 to 1984 I was a CBS News Correspondent based in New York. I wrote and anchored an award winning daily radio broadcast aimed at women, covered the 1980 Edward Kennedy presidential campaign and then the Ronald Reagan presidential campaign for both TV and radio.

EXPANDED PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

Currently I’m a freelance business news radio anchor and TV producer at

NBC’s international business network CNBC. I recently anchored local radio news for New York station Newstalk 710 WOR. In the early to mid 1990’s I did some informal consulting in Prague for Czech TV and presented formal proposals for the start-up of Nova, now a successful independent TV channel owned by Central European Media (CME). I also worked with American advisors to the Czech Finance Ministry on a planned 12 part TV series on Entrepreneurship. I have some very basic familiarity with the Czech and French languages. Recent anchor/reporter work includes The Dow Jones Radio Networks (business news) and New York City metro area TV stations WWOR and WNBC. I have also been an all news radio anchor and a talk radio host in NYC, Boston, and New Jersey. I specialize in business, medical and health news and have produced and reported for Reuters Television, various syndicated business programs, Medstar and Ivanhoe Broadcast News. I’ve created and produced video news release (VNR) campaigns across the U.S. and in Europe for On The Scene Productions and the Orbis Broadcast Group. I’ve produced and written for Medical Detectives, a Medstar/Learning Channel weekly series.

I spent ten years at CBS News as a correspondent, primarily radio anchoring, producing and reporting. During that time, in addition to special events, election, and general hard news coverage, I produced, wrote, edited and voiced a number of half-hour documentaries as part of a monthly CBS News/radio series. I also anchored short, hourly newscasts

and did some on camera reporting and anchoring for CBS-TV. And I produced, wrote and edited several 13 part, half hour series for Westinghouse Radio, one of which - EVERYTHING'S FALLING APART - won a Peabody – one of journalism’s most prestigious awards.

My extensive TV experience includes investigative reporting as well as conceptualizing and producing a number of extended series for local news rating periods. In October, 2003 I researched, wrote and produced a series of 8 long pieces on Pope John Paul’s legacy for WWOR-Ch 9. (Updated 3/05). I ran the New Jersey Bureau for WPIX for a year. I have planned and executed complex live national and local election feeds. At Financial News Network I produced and hosted a series of half-hour international business shows. I have budgeted productions, hired field and studio crews, set up satellite feeds, shot and edited all over the U.S. and in Europe.
