MEASUREMENT CTS

MEASUREMENT CTS

Measurement CTs are required totransform the primary current, atvarious classes of accuracy, asspecified by the class designation,over a current range from 5% to120% of its rated primary current.The design of this type of CTrequires the inclusion of a core andwinding which will, when connectedto its rated burden, perform withinthe limits of error as indicated bythe standards specifications.It is an advantage for ameasurement CT to saturate abovethis range, which provides aprotection against damage toinstrument by limiting the second-ary current, when surge current orfaults appear in the primary circuit.

Clips are provided for footmounting as standard for allsizes.Busbar Clamps are providedas standard accessories fromsize CGCT-3 onwards.

APPLICATIONS

Series CGCT CTs measurecurrents from 30 Amps to 4000Amps. Their accuracy allowsoperation within the range of 5%to 120% of the primary current.This accuracy depends on theload connected to the secondaryof the CTs, which includes boththe impedance of the connectedmeasuring instruments andconnecting cables. The CTs can bemounted in direct contact with thebusbars operating at a maximumtemperature of 105°C. They canwithstand, without damage, thehigh temperatures that can occurin enclosed switchboards.

SERIES IC,RESIN CAST CTS

Series IC CTs, cast in polyesterresin and confirming toBS 7626, 1993 and IEC 44, 1996(earlier IEC 185, 1987) are designedfor measurement and protection withany accuracy class.

The ID can be either circular orrectangular to suit various sizes of busbars/links, to customer requirements.

The cores are made from cold rolledgrain oriented silicon steel continuousstrips. Based on the ID requirement, asuitable former is used for making thecore. As the grain oriantation oflamination gets disturbed in theprocess, the cores are annealed in anitrogen furnace.

Different sizes of moulds with adjustableside plate are used to suit the finaloverall dimensions of the CTs based onthe ID specified by the customers.

The CTs can be offered for VAburdens up to 50 VA. For metering CTs,these can be with class '1' or class '3'or class '0.5' accuracy. For protectionaccuracy class of 5P10, 5P15 and5P20 can be offered.

Special class 'PS' accuracy protectionCTs are offered with the Knee PointVoltage and Secondary Resistancerequirements, as specified.

For lower ratios, the CTs will be woundprimary type, with separate primary andsecondary terminals. These CTs will

have a short-time current rating of 60times the rated primary current for onesecond. The insulation level of theseCTs is for 3 kV for 1 minute.

The CTs are offered with terminals.Sealing arrangement and mountinginserts can be provided on request.
