Tell me about your style. You're a beautiful girl who can rock blue and pink hair! Not a lot of gals can pull that off. Where do you get your inspiration?

Thank you! My hair has been every color under the sun. One day I was just hanging out watching Netflix (favorite pastime), and thought, “I’m going to dye my hair pink tomorrow,” and it went from there. I change up the color a lot from red to pink to purple to blue tones.I’m not sure if my color choices are actually “inspired” or more a result of boredom. I like change.

You're also a talented singer-songwriter. The first song I heard you sing was "Homicide". You said the song is "about someone so attractive they walk into the room and you just die. There's been a homi-cide in the room. They've killed you with your good looks." Your sense of humor is fun but "dead" on. How did this song originate?

I wrote it about myself! Haha. Also, nice pun! When I write, sometimes it’s based on my life; some-times it’s an idea or a concept. “Homicide” is about heart-attack level, carnal, desire, really. The instan-taneous “thunderbolt" (as Michael Corleone would call it) that can be the product of just one look. Sometimes that jolt can be so powerful, you would think that’s it for you; you’re going to meet your maker, right then and there. I think we can all relate.

Your song "Within Me" has a vintage 80's feel. Are you influenced by any particular musical era or genre?

Actually, that’s a great observation. I love the 80s. What a great decade! It brought us Labyrinth, “In Your Eyes” by Peter Gabriel, Glo Worms, I could go on and on. I love synth sounds. I love how a lot of 80s music doesn’t take itself too seriously, and that leaves a lot of room to play around with different sounds. While the subject matter of “Within Me” is pretty serious, I like that we were able to experi-ment with the production and add some cool retro sounds.

I've got to ask: "Real Man" has spawned its own undies available on your Facebook page! That's definitely a unique piece of fan gear. What has your response been with this song and its un-dies?

I sell a ton of “Real Man” under-wear! People love them. I even have men buy them. I tried to think of unique merchandise, and it just came to me. Who doesn’t want a pair of panties that say “I Need A Real Man” on the back? And “Laura Lee” is signed on the right cheek, so that’s an added bonus! (I would also like to note the panties are clean and unused. For some, that’s a necessity; for some, that’s a bummer.) They are available for sale on my website at LauraLeeBishop.com. In addi-tion, I sell t-shirts for those less scandalous.

"Tidal Wave" has to be my favor-ite songs of yours. Its acoustics are reminiscent of a lighted patio

party in Austin. Do you prefer playing for an intimate crowd or the flashy stages of New York and Nashville?

I like to play all different kinds of gigs. It keeps it interesting. Small acoustic shows are great because it gives me a chance to really connect with people one on one. I can look each and every person in the eye and really convey the emotion of the song. Playing with a full band is great because the energy is electric. There’s a spark, and everyonecan feel it. I love to play for small crowds, but when the place ispacked, the energy bounces back and forth and fuels the fire, and itjust elevates the performanc-es from everyone in the band. That’s why continuing to grow my fan-base, playing bigger shows, and spreading the word about my music is so important. That’s my calling. I want to share that passion with as many people as possible.

Laura Lee Bishop, from Gilmer, Texas, on American Idol! Inside scoop, please! What has trans-pired since your experience on the show?

American Idol is a reality show, but it’s not exactly reality. Nothingcan be when it’s on primetime tv. There are sponsors and ratings toworry about, so certain things have to be manipulated in order to be successful. I did go Holly-wood twice on American Idol, and I have fond memories. The first year I sang for Steven Tyler, Jen-nifer Lopez, and Randy Jackson; all yeses. The second year I sang for Mariah Carey, Keith Urban, Nicki Minaj, and Randy Jackson; all yeses. I stress the “yes” thing because that’s what I mean about the whole reality thing: it’s still TV. The judges can love you, they can think you are a star, but it really comes down to the producers, and if they think you are right for that particular show, in that par-ticular time slot, on that particular

network. I just don’t think I was right for that show, or perhaps that show wasn’t really right for me. I’m not just a “singer;” I’m a writer; I’m a musician; I’m very out-spoken; I curse; I’m a little rough around the edges; and I don’t censor myself. Those aren’t the ingredients for America’s sweetheart. There is a placefor me in the public eye, but I don’t think those parameters would do me justice. I have a path to walk, and that was a detour, but it wasn’t the final destination for me. I’m actually going to be doing some filming of my own over the summer. I want to document the ups and downs, the triumphs and setbacks, of being and independent artist. It’s a struggle, but it’s also fun and exciting. I think it’s some-thing people haven’t really seen before. We watch reality shows about rich people in Beverly Hills, established artists with re-cord deals, ex child stars. That outrageous opulence is shoved in our faces, and we never get to see anything with heart. I’d love to share my journey. It’s beautiful; it’s painful. There is hope, then, there is rejec-tion. It’s something we can all relate to. I want to finally show people something “real.” So, that’s an upcoming project I’m really excited about.

For those aspiring artists out there read-ing this today, what inspiration could you share with them?

I’m going to be honest here and not give some inspirational speech because there is already enough of that to go around. This is what I can tell you: It isn’t fair. It isn’t easy. It isn’t for everyone. If the thought has crossed your mind you may need to throw in the towel, you probably should. For some people, singing a few songs at church on Sunday makes them an artist. For some people, they play guitar with their friends in their living room, so now they want to be famous. It doesn’t work like that. It’s not a choice; it’s a need. Figure out the difference between a hobby and a passion. If you know this is your destiny, fight for it. Don’t give up. Get used to the word “no.” Learn how to do every-thing yourself. I write my own songs. I play my own instruments. I book my own shows. I am proficient in music editingsoftware like Pro Tools and Logic. I make my own beats. I do my own Photoshop, make my own posters, logos, and ban-

ners. I do my own hair, nails, makeup, and styling. It’s a wonderful thing when you can collaborate with others to make something beautiful, but don’t rely on it. If I could go back in time and give myself any piece of advice it would be to waste no time waiting on other people to honor their commitments or help you. Cut out the middlemen because they hold you back. Learn to do everything because there will come a time when it’s all up to you. Don’t feel guilty for voicing your opinions or demanding respect. Follow your gut. Really, at the end of the day, this is just advice in general. I think we all sit around waiting for something to happen, but if we really want something, we have to take it. It hasn’t been until recently that I had this epiphany, but thank God I did because now there is no stopping me. I wish the same for every other talented artist in the industry. Let’s stop giving in to the Justin Biebers of the world and grab a piece for ourselves! (mic drop.)

One big advantage of small tattoo designs is that you can splurge on color. Colored tattoos generally cost more than plain black ones, but if the design you have chosen is relatively small, then you can spend more on color and shading - two important ways to make your tattoo truly unique - without breaking your budget.

Let’s face it: getting a tattoo can hurt. That’s a very practical reason for choos-ing a smaller tattoo. You can still choose a design that expresses your individuality, but it doesn’t have to take all night and hurt for three weeks afterward to enjoy that uniqueness!

People choose small female tattoo designs for a variety of reasons. Be aware, though, that smaller tattoos aren’t necessarily equivalent with compromise - small doesn’t have to me generic. Just because you are smaller doesn’t mean your body has to look boring!

Remember, however, that you may frequently find yourself in a situation that does not allow you to display your tattoo prominently. Perhaps your busi-ness does not permit visible tattoos, or maybe a grandmother would really be upset by seeing it. Women choose small female tattoos for many reasons.

Just because the design is small, how-ever, doesn’t mean that it doesn’t have a significant impact. The location of the tattoo is the key to the response you will get. Choosing your lower back can attract many eyes to this flattering, curvy aspect of your body. Even a tiny design, such as a flower or a complex knot, can be attractive.

Additionally, a small tattoo on the ankle can be particularly alluring, because it will catch the eye and draw the gaze up the leg. Many women even choose to get tattoos that look like permanent anklets. You’ll get all the benefits of sexy jewelry without actually having to wear any! Some women also feel that these small tattoos are more “feminine,” because they don’t stand out as much.

I’m a full time mom with too many options and so little time. Do I visit the local mall or go the independent beauty consultant route? (Think “Younique” and those fabulous-not-so-falsies.) As my head swirls around exotic yet fluffy eyelashes, I am reminded of other options.

I could venture out to the local boutique that carries a cult following such as “Merle Norman” (no, it’s not just your grandmother’s makeup anymore). Let’s not forget, Ulta is a makeup mecca. So many brands, so much fun, so much anxiety! Which brand do I chose? Am I making the right decision in this fluorescent light? Hey, are they just trying to make a commission off me? My goal: test this plethora of options. Which cosmetic brand gives me the look I am desperately seeking? Which locale provides the best customer service? All you moms out there know how sometimes we feel overlooked in a busy-high fashion-commission driven- beauty de-partment. Tag along as I embark on this CURRENT beauty adventure. Let the makeovers begin!

I have a three year old son. Beauty routines and young children do not mix. They are like oil and water; the oil quickly makes it way

to the top leaving the water to pout below the surface. Hence, beauty routines are second to our children and rightly so! But that does not

mean a mom does not deserve to feel beautiful and a bit glamorous at times.

My first venture out testing the waters of cosmetic waves began with an invite. Kristina Johnson, Independent Beauty Consultant for Younique, actually invited my three year old son to our makeover session. Really?!? Obviously she didn’t know my youngest son too well. He’s in that licking stage. You know, where windows at the grocery store just scream to be licked and your bathroom mirror isn’t clean unless it is licked clean by a three year old. But I digress. As I was saying: Kristina’s house is only five minutes away from our home so, with my licking son in tow, we set out for our first makeover experience. This would SO never happen at a mall.

The point of my story: What makes Younique so unique? Younique does not contain SPF. I am especially fond of products not containing SPF as it turns your face a pasty white in photographs (I do wear sunscreen for the record.) And who cannot recall a day on Face-book when a picture isn’t posted of a woman wearing those gorgeous 3D Moonstruck Fiber Lashes? These fibrous lashes are the hallmark of Younique and with Kristina’s help,

we were able to coach my itty bitty lashes into a luscious creation all their own. Beyond the lashes, Younique carries an entire line of beauty products, most of which we dappled in and I have detailed below:

We started with Glorious Face and Eye Primer to even out my skin tone and control oil. I have combination skin so we chose to use Touch Mineral Cream Foundation. The mixture glided over my skin like silk without the bulky feel of other foundations I have tried in the past. Kristina then buffed Touch Mineral Powder Foundation over the cream to set the founda-tion. This magic combination gave my uneven skin tone a flawless glow. Kristina next applied Moonstruck Minerals Pigment Powders in infatuated, a rich brown, curious, a pearly white and blended the two contrasting colors togeth-er with beauty, a softer brown pigment. Kristina then wet an angled eye liner brush and dipped it into the infatuated pigment.

Now here comes my aha moment --Have you ever heard of tight-lining? Why haven’t I heard of tight-lining? This technique involves tracing your lower water line with an angled liner brush from inside corner out. Kristina told me to squeeze my eyes really tight and then wah-lah! The pigment from my lower water line transferred to my upper water line giving me that instant liquid eye liner look! We added the Moonstruck 3D Fiber Lashes, some blush, and a raspberry lipliner/stick in pompous and I was transformed! I was no longer the mom with the licking three year old (he was in the other room playing chutes n ladders).I was now the mom with a flawless face and stunning eyelashes…with a licking three year old.

I thoroughly enjoyed my Younique experience with Kristina. This option fit my schedule, I did not have to travel far, my son was invited to tag along, and my makeup looked fabulous (and remains on this very moment more than

8 hours later!) My children will always take top priority but this makeup makes me feel glamourous and will fit easily into my beauty routine- even throughout this silly licking stage!
