Earthquake in India-Nepal

What happened?

• With a 6.9 earthquake, thirty-eight people died in India with seven others in Nepal. More than 90 were injured in India.

What is an earthquake and how does it happen?

• a series of vibrations brought up in the earth's crust by the sudden crack of rocks in which damage has been slowly building up.

Two Main Causes of Earthquakes

• Firstly, they can be connected to explosive volcanic eruptions.

• Secondly, they can be triggered by activity connected with margins and faults.

How did the earthquake start?

• A strong earthquake started in northeastern India and Nepal on Sunday night killing at least 16 people.

Death Toll

• The death toll from a 6.9-magnitude earthquake that hit the India-Nepal border has risen to 8.3.

Why do we have to know this?

• 1.) the dangerous effects it can cause (destroy property, houses, buildings)

• 2.) so you are better prepared next time, by being prepared, you can avoid death.

• Being prepared means knowing that an earthquake is coming, an earthquake can be detected by using a seismograph
